Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

I suggest to avoid twitch like the plague. Pretty much any who is anyone is playing FF7 remake. I sadly never played thru the original FF7 so this is pretty much all new feeling for me to play a FF game thru.

From what I hear the padding is just the dungeons got beefed up, you get more story beats but it is the dungeons and puzzles which had extra stuff that is the killer, at least for someone expecting a closer recreation of the original game.

Im not a fan of digital, I prefer physical. You know how fickle it is, they remove shit online at a moments notice. I did consider it tho

I hate calling Game Stop to ask about product availability. I swear to God you need 0 actual expirience with video games to secure a position there.

I’ll ask if they have a game like Halo, or Ultimate Alliance 3, or God Of War, and they’ll ask me: “For which system?”

Because you don’t. GameStop as a company doesn’t care how much you know about x, y or z company, games, systems, whatever. They just want to know if you know how to sell them.

Despite having knowledge in all the former helps with the latter they don’t see it that way and don’t care.

Yeah, I realize that, but God fucking damn. These people are Candy Crush levels of casual. How the fuck do you not know at least SOME system exclusives. It’s like you walk into work everyday with fucking blinders on. You have to pick up SOMETHING about gamer culture, at least basic offhand info like this. :joy:

As cliche as it sounds, with specialty retail stores like hobby shops, card shops, comic shops, GameStop’s or whatever. Finding the right one is key. You gotta find the employees who see it Not only as a job but as an opportunity to get you, the customer to find out more about what you love about that medium or introduce you to different parts of it.

I’m kinda tooting my own horn a bit but when I started working at the GameStop in Seattle their Nintendo sales were fine but not as good as other stores. Once I finally got into the groove of things our Nintendo sales went up over 300% in just a quarter. They kept climbing and climbing too.

Eventually it got to the point where thanks to me and a Coworker who was also into Nintendo stuff we had the highest preorders for Pokémon ORAS AND Sm4sh in the state.

That’s pretty sweet. It’s always nice every once in a blue moon when you find that dude who actually enjoys games and doesn’t just see it as a paycheck.

I have to stop myself on a regular basis from butting in on customer/employee conversations where the employee is just giving flat out incorrect information to the consumer. Some of the most asinine shit I’ve heard about video games were within Game Stop walls, said by Game Stop employees.

This was me at the job I had before GameStop. I work at a hobby store. I would constantly hear misinformation about certain games and comics.

I didn’t mind butting in though since it was kinda my job to. lol.

You know it’s bad when you’re correcting people about a thing they’ve played/read for years but you haven’t touched in over a decade or more.

that would be an excellent easter egg for the controller as well, if it did the Honk from UGG.

I had to correct people alot during my tenure
especially store mangers I worked under who didn’t plat games or didn’t keep up with stuff as much as I did. It was especually annoying working under someone who was a clear fanboy of Microsoft. Dude was not having a good time during the kinect years of the xbone. He definitely didn’t like me being as honest when it came to game differencea between the consoles. I may like M$ the least but I never steered customers away from the console if I felt it matched what they were looking for. I stayed as objective as possible.
