Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

I got Yuffie for completionist sake, but only used her a handful of times, her skill set did not appeal to me. Cloud, Cid and Barrett (or Vincent) were my go-to team

That’s the thing, it wasn’t impressive at the time of release. Resident Evil came out first and did the polygon over prerendered back ground aesthetic better. It wasn’t the first game to kill one of the leads. Phantasy Star 2 did that in 1989. The only thing truly impressive was its Western ad campaign that proved that JRPGs could sell outside of Japan.

No, it’s well noted that he worked on the original EVA while deep in depression.

Now, it’s fine to say ā€œthis story shouldn’t be very upliftingā€. That’s perfectly fine. But there is a hard line that will make people tune out and it can be argued he tap danced over that line in the original.

And you’re right, we’ll have to see with the final movie whenever that comes out as we’re like what, 3 years past the intended release date? It does deserve to be seen in its entirety to form a complete opinion but so far I’m ambivalent on the route it took.

Have you been inside the Director’s Cut Basement? The only reason it’s not considered ā€œnon-canon garbageā€ is because just like like FF7 it’s acknowledged to be great ā€œfor its timeā€.

Look, FF7 is honestly not a good game. In nearly every facet it’s inferior to FFVI who basically did…nearly everything FF7 did but better (Materia was a better system overall however). I’m not even one who slobs the knob of FFVI every chance I get but it’s definitely far above FF7. However everyone does (or should) acknowledge the IMPORTANCE of FF7. FF7 proved that JRPGs were truly bankable in the Western market. Its impact on gaming culture can never be overlooked. But because of that I feel that way too many people think that everything about the game is great and needs to be beholden to in the Remake.

Like Aerith’s death for example. She only died in the original FF7 because Square wanted to make a Final Fantasy where a main character died and stayed dead. Hell the original idea was to make ANY of the characters (outside of Cloud) with the potential to die at that point but it was tossed because it would’ve been a nightmare to actually write around. So we get a story that’s more about finding a reason to get to certain beats rather than moving at an organic pace.

I know I’m going off on a bunch of random tangents so I’ll get down to this. The biggest reason I’m fine with Remakes just going in completely different routes is because we can just easily play the originals if it doesn’t suit our fancies. It allows both to live in the same space far easier than if the Remake is just a straight one to one upgrade of everything.

I was talking about being depressed now, lol.
I know that he was heavily depressed during the 1st run of EVA.
With this new EVA i feel that is kind of a metaphor for the journey of leaving that depression.
Which is why the plot is the way it is, imo.

Again, this is different. Remakes rendering the original game obsolete kind of is the point really. You don’t drop all that time, effort and cash to make people want to play the original.

I’m talking about stuff like the remake actually retconning entire plot points and making the original non-canon in favor of its stuff.

Lisa Trevor is an expansion, not a retcon. If REmake had like, Wesker actually being a full-on good guy, I’d say it fucked up.

Oof. Yeah, I’m not watching 30~40h of this.

Aight, I’m not touching anything FF7 remake related until Square actually releases all the parts (however many there will be) and I can actually buy and play them all, one after another. Besides who knows if there’s a major shift in the staff again and the remake turns out to be a development mess like XV was, especially given we have some particular individuals in charge of both projects.

2025, 2030, whatever, I’ll wait. I’m not interested in stopping at Midgar then waiting who knows how many years before the story can actually continue

i guess i don’t mind if shit changes or stays the same with a remake. i remember wild arms alter code f is a remake of wild arms 1 with expanded lore and the wild arms 3 battle system and that shit even has translation errors from the ps1 game people still complained.

You know what I say to the ppl who don’t like the changes, make your own game. If Im director, Im not taking orders from nobody but my team.

I mean, if a fan suggestion seems dope, I’ll consider, but that’s it. Fans don’t know what they want a majority of the time:joy::joy:

As a software developer, i like how this channel goes into details about the homebrew/hacking scene for consoles, like the history, how they did it, etc.

BTW, found a stadia fanboy/shill that is trying to tell me that stadia is the future, lol
Not really surprised they exists.
But is sure bizarre.

You can tell those people dont really play video games by the amount of stupid shit they say, lol.

Stadia is the future with Doom Eternal running like ass? Not a chance. :joy:

At least that squigga is profiting with his shilling, since it has a youtube channel dedicated to shill for it.
He is also a vegan and looks like your stereotypical soyboy, lol.

That’s a void argument. It has absolutely no weight whatsoever.

I dunno. Maybe it is the future. I’m sure Stadia-like ideas will be viable in 30 years or so.

This isn’t a plot hole, it’s a stable time loop and one of the few examples of oot using time travel well.

This is why people shouldn’t think about this too hard. They barely understand what they are talking about and then try to start labeling shit as plot holes when it’s nothing of the sort.

That’s your opinion, Jack. Quality is subjective, might as well make the projects you want to make, they will criticize it regardless

Basically, fuck dem fans :man_shrugging:t5:

For the time being this should be the rally cry of every content creator. Fans currently are steaming piles of piss, vinigar, complaints, and demands. They’ve become extremely entitled, as if them buying the thing you put out gives them creative control over it.

It doesnt. Sit your 5 dollar was down.

No, stable time loops are generally not good because everyone forgets that they need an original event to start the loop.

Who played the Song of Storms first? Adult Link learns it from the windmill guy. Young Link plays it in the past and the windmill guy learns it then.

But how does the first iteration of the loop plays out? Did someone else teach it to either the guy or Link?

That’s a plot hole.
