Video Game General 6.4: New Halo? What else?

Yeeesh…

I saw that like over a week ago.

Dandy Bitchfork is a lying, squirting, cocksucker.

Water is wet, the sky is blue, Aliens Colonial Marines is shite, Borderlands 3 is a disappointment even before it gets to DLCappoint with its Fortnite release state.

Its kind of crazy how much BL3 anti-hype they’ve created for the game. Never been so excited about a new game coming out and so quickly uninterested in it.

Oh yeah, horror genre last-gen > this one too. Dead Space 1-3.

There were a couple of other decent horror games too. Third-person shooters was another genre that was way better last-gen too. Vanquish, Warhammer: Space Marine, Max Payne 3 and a bunch of other random TPS games in-between that I really enjoyed. I loved that genre last-gen. Mindjack had a SHIT Metacritic score but being able to “hack” into peoples single player campaigns followed by MINDJACKING random AI followed by literally trolling the host+his coop partner with the AI you just took over was so much fun.

There were a lot of weird/niche titles too that you don’t see as much this gen either, and it was like even the bigger companies were willing to experiment from time to time. EA giving money to Shinji and Suda51 to make an awesome horror themed TPS Shadows of the Damned? Yeah, why not? 2K games with the BioShock series. Capcom with Dragon’s Dogma. From Software with 3D Dot Game Heroes AKA a god tier 2D Zelda game. Konami with NEVERDEAD(lol. I should go back and give this one another shot.)

That one weird action game that’s based on some biblical shiieet which didn’t have the best gameplay, but it made up for it with the funky visual design. Not the God of War clone EA put out but this weird, obscure PS3/360 title that I forget the name of.

yeah same here… 360/PS3 era was legendary…I had much more fun there than any prior era, even the previous GOAT status 16-bit days.

One thing though…I did have to think for a moment on this…because this current gen gave me a few great ones as well— Vampyr, Cuphead, DB Fighter Z, Gears 4, Shadow of Mordor & Shadow of War, Witcher 3 and Monster Hunter World, Dead Cells, and as of recently a proper Devil May Cry sequel…it’s surprisingly close, actually. The lame shit about this generation is the increasing number of games that are online-only “live service” horseshit…the truly sad thing is that it is indeed hopeless to stand against it, since the majority is perfectly ok with that…

…it’s like if you happen to vote one way in a political election, but EVERYONE else in your county, state, etc. votes the other way. Your vote doesn’t really mean shit in that scenario.

If Randy Pitchford told me that water was wet and fire was hot, I wouldn’t believe him. Dude is sleezy as fuck.

Randy is dedicated to killing all the hype and bit of good will that BL3 trailer brought them.

I was hyped for CoD BO4 as I really thought shit was going back to BO2 with the support of DLC like BO3 minus the RNG BS. Soon things were disappointing for me but It isn’t matching the level BL3 hype did only to fall harder and faster

This gen kicked more ass than last gen. I’ve said it before but 7th gen:

I thought it came too soon (still do)

Sega was out of the console business.

The rise of more western developers and Japanese developers having a hard time (thanks to no Japanese documentation on the main engines at the time).

I wouldn’t have got in on it if my bro didn’t give me his 360 because it was crapping out on him, but ended up going strong for me, lol.

RRoD (MS) $599 (Sony) were The Lulz. I liked what Nintendo had but wanted to wait for an iteration on the idea (no motion bar). VF5 online and Rez were the only things I messed with for the first few months I had it. Up until 2013, the only things I messed around with were Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, Modern Warfare(1&2) and remasters of previous (and before) generation of games.

Treasure had the real last hurrah as well. I didn’t get into any new single player games (meaning purchasing for myself and digging in) until 2013 starting with MG: Rising, then I went on to Bayonetta, Vanquish, DMC4 and Ninja Gaiden2.

Going into this gen, I was “ehh” again, but decided to get a Wii U because of W101 (P* previous games got me on board with them) and not playing a Mario game for about 10 years. I was fine with that system and ended up getting more than I thought I would. Picking it up instead of the PS4 in 2013 was the best decision as I got to play some Wii games I wanted to check out(Madworld, No More Heroes, Sin and Punishment 2, Trauma Center) and capped it off with Breath of the Wild.

It’s now one of my all time favorite systems despite some issues, and got me back into gaming.

The big thing for the PS4 was that, for me, Sega was on more consistent schedule with releasing their good games outside of Japan. 2017 was the real stand out for the system, where I felt I wanted one to sit alongside the Wii U.

Switch is awesome and just about what I want out of system as in form factor.

So…yeah. This gen while awesome is top 3 with 6th(Dreamcast to Xbox) and 4th gen(Genesis and SNES). It stomps out 7th gen without trying and is overall better than 5th gen (Saturn, PSX, N64).

The best part about this generation is The Awesome is STILL going and doesn’t look to stop going into next-gen

daps

Earthquake can be fine as long as they fix his shit. SMH at a big body grappler-ish character with normals that whiff at point blank range.

Gedo is probably never coming back. Too hard to balance without either making him top tier or shit tier.

Also, Stu is probably just gonna complain about folks just waiting shit out with him.

I literally don’t even know who you’re talking about.

I’ve only played SamSho2 and I think 5special? Even then “played” is grossly over exaggerating how much time I actually put in to them.

Gedo.

I don’t understand how that kind of “top level” play style is fun for anyone involved. Players and spectators alike. That was just…what the actual fuck. :upside_down_face::woman_shrugging:t3::face_vomiting:

And This is literally what happened. All they did was wait shit out.

Skyrim…

Well, this is a bit of a disappointing thing I just found out… randomly browsing a forum for it… turns out they removed the random vampire attacks in towns. Apparently I was probably the only person that found that idea funny and awesome (coming back to a certain town to find out that character you were coming to see is dead because vampires showed up yesterday ) …most of the Skyrim fanbase seemed to always bitch about that, and downloaded a “vampires suck” mod usually to “fix” it.

I though that was the Switch version that did that.
Mainstream Skyrim nerfed the Vamp attacks as well?

Last gen was much better than this gen overall for me as well. The only thing that seems better are graphics.

Playing Mass Effect, Test Drive Unlimited for the first time, almost cannot be beaten for me. Plus the abundance of NEW games that came out. 3D Fallout, Amalur, Skate, Saint’s Row 1 and 2, ect, ect. Just of lot of good shit. Even DB Xenoverse, it was the first DB game where you could feel the power of the characters in action.

Way too many remakes, and shit this gen, and even I spent ‘too much’ time playing GTA Online earlier in this gen as well as Skyrim SE, both of which are technically last gen games, because a lack of actual games this gen to play. Or rather, I’ve bought a lot of games this gen, but most aren’t even better than Skyrim.

So yeah stage builder stuff is already out of hand

Black Clover gets updated with dlc character

Sword Art getting updated

One Piece World Seeker also updated

ha, that’s funny…I was assuming the Switch version may have been untouched since I don’t recall it having the “Creation Club” thing…? It’s been a long time (several months…close to a year) since I played any version of the game, actually. It’s kind of a shame, imo the more I think of it… this was something that was refreshingly different, interesting and funny, at least in my opinion.

In every other rpg I’ve played the town areas are safe…and I loved that this just wasn’t the case in Skyrim…especially with my favorite supernatural monsters, of course. It also seemed like a more realistic approach---- why would the various monsters of the world NOT attack populated areas anyway? Most devs probably just write it that way to avoid the scenario of quest-related npcs and vendor npcs getting randomly killed. (the alternative route would be of course to make those characters invincible, but that seems stupid too, imo…which reminds me of another topic that’s a million times more controversial that 99% of people probably would disagree with me on—> inexplicably invincible child characters.)

While I’m enjoying this console generation, the last one was 8 years from my perspective (360 was my main console from 2007-2015) and despite having my console die on me ,I think it was better.

Games that were truly great imo:

Bayoneesa 1
Batman Arkham City and Asylum
Borderlands 2
Tekken Tag 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Tomb Raider 2013 reboot
Uncharted 2 (I played this on PS4 for my first time but it came out last gen)

That being said there are some games I really liked this gen

Yakuza 0,Kiwami 1,2 (Props to @Sonicabid for introducing this series to me)

Doom 2016 - one of the most white knuckle shooters I’ve ever played. I’ve never had an adrenaline rush during sitting down lol

Transformers Devastation- Bayonetta in Disguise with G1 Voice Actors and cell shading

Spiderman 2018- Arkham and Uncharted had a baby

Tekken 7
