The problem is that those moments arent specific to SamSho but are weird player situations. Lots of match ups are that level of lame. ST honda vs gief is hilariously lame. But the players willing to do it are very few; that those players would be up against each other is rare too. Honda cant really approach a gief whiffing jabs and Gief cant really walk safely forward.
Thay one match up isnt really emblematic of SamSho gameplay as a whole. Lots of characters have projectiles and safe chip options that would’ve forced action out of people. But it is cool in the “its already a game of minimizing risks and it got hilariously silly here.”
If you dont want slow, then there’s plenty of fast paced stuff lot there for you. Matter of fact, the vast majority of games are madw with you in mind.
SamSho is for the people who wanna hit a 40% slash on somebodg to punish their buffoonery.

I have no issues with defensive gameplay. But when the core gameplay comes down to being a turtle lying in wait. That’s an issue to a lot of people and will greatly effect the longevity of the game. It’s one of the reasons Alpha introduced a block stun meter cause people got tired of that shit.

Core SamSho gamrplay is footsies and high damage from single moves. There are characters that RTSD and a few grapplers too. But a lot of it is single hits that do high damage.
If you think all matches of SamSho are going tk be 60 seconds of downback, then you’re literally memeing yourself. The game just wont be knockdown into a bunch of set ups or the high soeed silliness SF5 has.
It can get slow at times, but Evo finals one year was sagat and rose clashing projectiles at near full screen and another was Adon hitting st.hk 20 times per round and then shifted to healing shenanigans.

It’s worrying that people are conflating being neutral/footsies focused with the core gameplay coming down to being a turtle.
I think its silly to get mad at that when Ukyo mirrors in SamSho2 were about forcing plus frames on people and then throwing them.

Honestly, I have only ever seen Samurai Shodown V and V Special played like that. Samurai Shodown II and IV are way more exciting even during mirror matches.

And just yesterday in the Lounge the people complaining SamSho now were talking up CvS 2, another slow game, on some nostalgia trips.

I love CvS2 since you can put out some braindead pressure from Cammy. Literally just walk forward, towards+fierce punch, walk forward, towards+fierce punch, and somewhere in the middle you occasionally get a throw.

Speaking on SamSho and CvS 2…I remember a match I had on XBL and JD’d a footsweep (? Its been a awhile) with Haomaru which was just enough to fill up my bar and land his Downward Slash Super for the K.O.
There was a disconnect after that. Even though they had one character left, and Haomaru was my last. Good times.
