Been playing Final Fantasy IX since Iāve never played it before and Iām reeeeally hoping that Steinerās personality gets better. It was funny at first but his naivete is starting to grate.

Well, I was at the last boss and had him down to something like 20% of his healthā¦ and died. There is NO possible way in the world Iāll ever get that close againā¦just no way. The run was absolutely perfect up to that last point at the end. I had 27 in Tactics, 8 on Survival and 5 on Brutalityā¦(I think it was 3 or 4 cursed chests I picked up to get all that). Explosive crossbow (one of the best weapons in the game, imo) was at 11,622 dps for criticalā¦that, my regular crossbow (16k! dps) and the Heavy Turret (5,205 dps) were all S-rank, AND I had a legendary crossbow turret. Iāll keep playing Very Hard of course but I donāt seriously have hope that I will get this close to beating that again. This is only the 2nd or 3rd time Iāve even made it to the final boss on that difficulty in the first place.
Yāknow, if I made a list of the top 20 hardest games ever, at least of things Iāve playedā¦ this game is probably somewhere inside the top 5, seriously. The fascinating thing is that it almost never feels like ācheap bullshitā thoughā¦itās oddly satisfying.

Steiner gets way better and is an awesome character over all, but yea heās frustratingly naive and obnoxious for the first half of the game.
If you are annoyed with himā¦the writing is working.

Did anyone else here get Blazing Chrome? Fun game, but it doesnāt hold up to Contra (with the obvious exclusions). I wish it had pulled more from contra 3 and less from hard corps.

IX has probably the best character development of any final fantasy game to date. Each one changes a lot through the course of the game and all have very unique arcs that are portrayed through the story.
Also, Freya is underrated.

Steiner is the fucking GOAT. Heās the fucking man. His character development is such a slow simmer that when the payoff finally happens you can help be be like 
Vivi was literally me as a teenager. Which is when it came out (I was in 9th grade)
Zidane was who I wanted to be. I just wanted to help people because it felt right. Not for some reward or promise of something. Cause itās the right thing to do. I still want to be like him.

I genuinely felt bad for Freya. When she finally found the love of her life and he couldnāt remember her or anything about her. I was like āfuck. Thatās roughā
Amarant despite what little character expansion he had it was all really good and amazing well thought out.
Eiko is annoying as fuck but I think anyone can related to her when it comes to how she feels about a lot of things. Mainly about her feeling so isolated and alone.
Oh. Quina was cool. Just a free spirited person(?) who wanted to do what they want when they wanted. Usually with food.
And if it wasnāt for Seymour I think Kuja would be my favorite FF Villain. Dude is fucking coocoo bananas crazy
To me: FFIX and FFX honestly have the most relatable characters and best character progressions out of any FF. Which is why I think I love them so much. Their character and world building are absolutely top notch.
Only characters I really liked in X where Auron and Lulu. Everyone else was either Meh or highly disliked. I hate Seymore. Dudes obnoxious, I hate his voice, I hate his stupid fucking hair, and somehow his models six pack looks like a beer gut with muscles and it weirds me out. Dude stomach makes Vaans look like a work of art.

Wakka is one of my favorite FF characters ever. I love any character that has internal struggles with what their beliefs are and what they know is right. That was Wakka in spades. I even told John DiMaggio that when I met him at Emerald Coty Comicon when he signed my Wakka and Bender figures.
