Dude, I gave up long ago.
Can you drop this thing too.

Thanks.
Signed everyone.

This boss in Sekiro is fucking me up. I’ve been on him for like 45 minutes. Damn 3rd phase.

Neither of these are really registering with me. I’m not good at reading descriptions of how to do things. It super confuses me. Much more of a hands and visual person.

I’ll just stick with the playlist.

Really wish Mortal Kombat Secrets continued the MK series that went behind the scenes of all the MK series releases. Last one was Shaolin Monks and man it was a good deep dive of all the stuff they got to that point. Maybe with MK 11 they will continue the series or at least pick it back up.

“I couldn’t give less of a fuck if you paid me.” ™

Is always my own, well-coined rejoinder.

He left out the negative.

Mind games.

So went to the local Gamestop last Wednesday.
For a store filled with stuff, they had shit.

They look like a weird mix of Hot topic and the toy section of Think Geek.

Can hardly find shit for games that aren’t used old used games. Hardly anything that caught my eye ether.

@darksakul (and obligatory @sonichuman tag since we’re taking GameStop) even though the stores condition makes it seem like they’re on their way out or have no direction, they’re actually making more money now than they ever have. And their stores are meticulously planned out. Despite how it looks.

They own ThinkGeek. Have for almost 5 years now. Also, their profit had been in the red for a few years. Buying think geek and becoming a general “nerd hub” is what literally saved them from going under (despite them still wanting to sell themselves to another business or shareholder firm)
(Side Note: Hot Topic had ThinkGeek pretty much in the bag but at the last minute, like, literally the day the sale was supposed to go through with HT ThinkGeek told them they got a much better offer from GameStop and reneged on the sale)

They get almost no profit from new hardware, games or accessories. All their profit is from pre-owned. However, now that they own thinkgeek and people pay them to carry said products instead of the other way around as well as making A LOT of what they sell in-house (making those products 100% profit) they’re slowly but finally seeing black again.

them also massively downsizing the used computer/phone/smart devices market they had was smart too. They sold pretty much all of their Mac, PC, Phone and smart device repair/recycling centers and stores. They were hemorrhaging money from that. Especially when such a high Margin of the products they took in were stolen.

Oh! A few years ago they started taking in retro games, consoles and accessories again. They hadn’t since the Wii. This massively helped them. In turn this caused a ripple effect though because of much to the chagrin of eBay and mom n pop stores who specialize in retro it helped balance the retro economy for the better.

They still a shitty company though. They make employees use extremely manipulative and predatory tactics to get customers to buy things. Then punish employees from write ups, to cut hours, even termination if they don’t use said tactics. They treat anyone who isn’t a store manager like absolute shit. In pretty much every regard. Even then once that manager gets to a certain salary cap they will find any reason to fire him so they can hire a new manager at the low end of the manager salary scale. Rinse and repeat. They have one of the highest turnover rates in specialized retail.

^ Can’t say there is much I can disagree with ib regards to this post.

Honestly I wish the EB games and Gamestop merger never happened…I think GS would be better competitively if it hadn’t and employees in general would have probably been happier.

I mean, you worked there for much longer than I did. So you probs my saw a lot of the shit people complain about these days slowly being implemented. My “tour” as it were was just shy of 3 years and almost everything had already settled outside of liquidating their Computer/Smart Device stores. Before I quit I think we were about 4-6 months into the Think Geek acquisition so all the stores were adjusting to the new influx and variety of products we were going to start carrying.

You and I both know it’s the staff that makes the stores tolerable and worth going back to though. That goes for customer and employee. I mean, this is obviously for any kind of customer service job but it’s especially important for your stores economy if you’re a specialized retail like gamestop is.

I loved working at the store in Seattle. My manager was amazing as were my SGA’s. They were always willing to help me with any issues I had. My SM also wouldn’t let anyone (customer or management alike) talk down to any of his employees. He kicked out several customers for it and told our DM to go fuck himself several times when he’d talk bad about an employee who isn’t able to get hours not reaching goals. Our manager also constantly went to bat for us whenever he thought it was bullshit our DM wouldn’t let us do special events like midnights. My fellow GA’s were super cool and knowledgeable about things I wasn’t so they were definitely an asset to me. I always got the hours I wanted and always got the days off I wanted. I adored my job and put a lot of myself into it. My ASM can suck a dick though. He was a cunt. I was so happy when he quit. Didn’t even defend me, let alone say anything when a customer called me a “fucking f@ggot” when we were talking about last of us and I told him I cried during at the prologue.

When I transferred to the store down here in Arkansas? Not so much. They lied to me about my pay transferring. They rarely have me hours (I was getting 36-40 in Seattle to under 16 here). They’d tell me to meet goals and I would crush those goals only for my SM to say “ease up you’re making me look bad to the DM”. I would call every major release day to see if they needed an extra hand to help. I’d volunteer for every midnight event. I’d always volunteer to come in whenever someone called out. The list goes on. But they wouldn’t give anything back and treated me very poorly. I ended up hating my job, the store, my manager and the company. So I quit.

Aside from the Switch launch when I had to pick up the amiibo I preordered and when I picked up the physical edition of Katamari reRolled I haven’t stepped into a GameStop since I quit.

I still found zero fairly recent (as of the past year) games in stock that are worth getting.

Just lots of used and preorders.

I expect when I walk into a store with games in their names as they are synonymous with gaming to have games, not novelty merch.

That’s not what they are anymore though. When they acquired think geek they more-or-less became a think geek that happens to sell video games. Their used section (see: what makes them profit) outweighs their new section. This is because Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo pay for x space in their store. GameStop has become less and less reliant on new since buying think geek. Thus, they don’t need as big of “new” sections.

All the newest titles are still there. I guarantee you they are. They just aren’t as predominate or advertised as they were say 3 years ago unless they’re paid to. It’s why you always see CoD, Madden or any 2k sport for that matter advertised all over the store.

Honestly, If it wasn’t for contracts with said companies and developers they’d probably phase out new hardware, games and accessories completely.

But that’s like Hank Hill selling BBQ sauce and spatulas instead of propane despite still working at Stricland Propane.

He does though? While still selling propane. I’d consider both of those “propane accessories”

GameStop just widening their scope of what “gaming” products they sell now. Nothing wrong with reaching a broader audience. It may alienate a few core customers but most, if not all companies don’t care about those. They care about the casuals and the walk ins. Yes, building a customer base and regulars is important too but they know what they want to buy and why they want to buy it. Most consumers who go into GameStop or specialty retail stores (especially around the holidays) simply don’t. That’s where companies like GameStop make their most money.

It’s just smart business.

Retail stores are dipping into other markets to keep themselves in business. Last week I went to Best Buy to pick up Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn and they were selling collectibles and children toys in the games section. It was definitely odd to see an electronics store dip their toes in toys. They see physical games increasing becoming more niche and need to replace it with something.

This too. Too be fair, most of those toys they carry are “smart” toys or toys like LEGO that tie into games or movies they’re promoting. It’s good business sense.

My local Best Buy has increased the space for cell phone supplies and household appliances and also put some toys in the game area.
