Man this Avengers game has some worrisome aspects, for the sake of the game’s studio I hope they pull a very good or great game out of it.

The classification makes a difference as it lets you know who the target audience for the game is. The Japanese are good about that sort of thing.

I love the robot designs our buddies over in Europe got.
Also, the Probotector games can be played in Turbo 60hz mode or the original 50hz. Playing Contra Hard Corps in 50hz makes it SLIGHTLY easier. I wish the JP version of Hard Corps had been included. That one actually gave you a life bar.
@Million-X if you want even the tiniest chance of passing a level in Hard Corps, pick Brownie. The only thing standing between living and dying is being a robot midget.

As i said a few days ago when Konami announced that Contra collection and i saw two of the games on it where Probotector games…

Way forward is very hit and miss for me. But when they do hit it’s really fucking good.
Shantae is good and their flagship title. It’s one of the few Metroidvania’s I actually like. I heard Contra 4 was phenomenal but I never actually played it.
The first Adventure Time game they made for the 3DS was really good. It was one big love letter to legend of Zelda II and Simon’s Quest. Too bad all the other Adventure Time games they made were the drizzling shits.
The regular show game they made was also very fun…a bit generic but really fun. You could tell they were huge fans of the show. They put a lot of love into it.
Never played any of the Mighty series.
Oh, A boy and his blob was also a really fun and creative puzzle platformer. Really fun.

Very smart. Exactly the reason I hate terms like Metroidvania and Souls Like. They are too loaded with built in expectations and put unheeded stress on devs.

That’s apples to oranges. Metroidvania is a pretty distinct genre at this point, it’s not directly comparing it to any specific game. Comparing yourself to DKC is putting yourself on a pedestal though. And you never should put yourself on one, that is for others to do.
You’re joking right? A portmanteau of Metroid and Castlevania in it isn’t pointing to any specific game? Really?

Metroidvania is a shitty term for a genre as it doesn’t tell you what a game is. An augmentation of two game titles is nondescript to me.
