Rondo while not technically the last is considered the connection between original action series and Symphony of the Night. I get but don’t agree with reasons for it to not be on this collection including the potential that it will be with SotN and the other modern games in another collection. I will have problems if Requiem is used as an excuse because that collection was half arsed and if they knew they were doing an anniversary collection separating two of the most popular games for a release outside of a supposed anniversary collection is a fucked up move both ethically and from a business stand point.
I loved the second season of the Castlevania series on Netflix but that collection was not a good time in nor worth putting legitimate holes in what could be a great collection.
Rondo and symphony are the most heralded titles in the series, so it makes sense that they’d separate them out. Plus, while Rondo technically is from the 16 bit era, since it wasn’t released outside if Japan until 10+ years ago, it’s slid into being considered one of the more recent games I guess. Either way, it makes sense to me that it isn’t included here and non-ps4 systems will probably get it in one form or another eventually.
Yeah, one of the throw in additions to make buying it on the Switch more enticing for those that might have paid for it on PS4 or 3DS. It aggravates me when companies do it… but I am part of the problem because I have that shit on Pre-order once I saw they imported the 16-bit graphic style mode as well.
Yeah, it’s not surprising since that they are afraid of cannibalizing sales. But I would argue that Rondo is most definitely classic Castlevania. Either way, it’s a shame that Castlevania Rebirth and Chronicles were left off. Rebirth is only on a dead platform (Wii shop), and Chronicles was pretty damn rare when it released, I couldn’t find it anywhere back then. I’m really hoping the Contra collection doesn’t get shafted with crap like Contra Force or the GB games over Shattered Soldier, Contra 4, and Hard Corps: Uprising.
Castlevania Chronicles is on PSN by the way as a PS1 classic. It’s technically two games in 1, in that there’s the original game that looks like this:
^ The Chronicles version where Simon has pink hair. I always hated that Simon design. Conan design or GTFO.
I lucked out and had a friend of mine toss me the game for free back in the day, though sadly with no manual. It costs just as much as if not more than a black label copy of SOTN which is crazy imo, but it was a really late PS1 release which has a lot to do it. I’ve noticed as a collector that games that release really late in a systems life are typically worth a lot.
Operation C on the original gameboy is actually great. It’s very similar to the NES games too, even featuring some of the same tracks. It is a shame the REbirth games were Wii Shop exclusive games. I was tempted to buy them on my Wii U before Nintendo axed the Wii Shop but I just couldn’t justify the purchases because lol Nintendo online services.
Rondo is definitely a classicvania, but it occupies this weird in between period for the series which is part of what makes it so cool. it seems like they’re trying to focus on earlier titles with this collection which makes sense to me but hopefully they’ll release another collection of more later era titles and that will be part of it.
I remember finding a copy of Chronicles at an electronics boutique towards the end of the PlayStation ones era and not knowing that it had been released. I immediately freaked out and bought it and still own it to this day. it’s really amazing to me what some of those games go for these days online, it’s almost criminal.
Got my Lilith running a PL1 DLC/PL2 Vanilla split.
She’s 43, currently, still rocking the Volcano on Up in lieu of a Liquid Orion (still), a Corrosive Thanatos on Left, a six shot Pestilent Defiler on Right (it does for shields better than any Shock weapon I currently own), and a Combustion Hellfire on Down.
Gonna run Roland next, since I’ve got a level 31 Crux and a level 32 Draco waiting in the wings.
