The Ongoing Slow-motion Hindenburg Crash that is Anthem continues…
…so the “Featured” store updated again, and OH HOW SURPRISING, once again there’s content they’ve already posted before. This is a non-stop comedy show, folks. There’s only 2 folks on my friend-list (out of the group that played) that still play it… one guy actually hit “Legendary” status with his Storm now. Really, I’ve never seen anything quite like this in the industry before… a game that’s supposedly in the “looter shooter” genre…where loot is important…and it hardly has any loot. How does one introduce a new special loot chest (Elysian) that has literally NOTHING desirable in it? Imagine if Diablo 3, Path of Exile or whatever had a new special mode you could run with this big golden treasure box at the end…but the only thing in there are white items and small amounts of gold…and thus…NOBODY cares about that damn chest as a result. I still have 1 Elysian key from weeks ago now, because I don’t care to ever use it.
It’s like an incredible practical joke here…like if it was truly intentional, it would go down as possibly the greatest troll of a game in history.
*I want to get back to designing nasty stages in Smash Ultimate but Katana Zero is too good to put down at the moment…
edit-- I love hearing this dude rip into something like a rabid pit bull, and he occasional goes back to the easy target that is this game…here’s one he just posted:
From those of you who’ve seen leaked videos, does MK11’s story mode suck? I’ve been trying to avoid all spoilers, as MK11 is a day one buy for me and I’m hitting the story mode first thing. But if it sucks, I’ll say “fuck it” and jump in to these videos. It’s looking good so far.
Anthem’s failure is just even worst because Bio Ware has a team that worked on a MMORPG, The Old Republic, before fucked it up and then got better working on the game and they still fucked up. I mean I get game development isn’t easy, nor is having to deal with shitty bosses but someone should have looked at the product and it’s state before release and figure out a way to make this beyond just a serviceable loot game without good loot.
Bioware was still Bioware when EA bought them but that was long time ago. Casey Hudson is probably the only person left from then and even he left the company before coming back like 18 months ago.
Your Father in Sekiro is such a ridiculous boss fight. Dude is absolutely destroying me to a point where I took a break to play some Fighting EX Layer.
Imma play some Megamang 11 here in a bit. I bought the game sealed but the disc was flopping around in the jewel case(had this happen a few times this gen) and when I went to pop it into my PS4 just now, I noticed the back off the case was broken. I’ll have to baby it for now followed by getting a replacement case.
Jewel cases are universally cheap as hell this gen. Holes in the plastic that make it easy to put a shitload of indents into the artwork. 3DS cases might be the worse offender here, there a zillion square holes all over the jewel cases so unless you treat them like a 2 day old baby they end up looking like shit with a million indents. PS2 cases in hindsight were like bricks, and while the PS3 cases weren’t as durable they sure as hell were more sturdy than current-gen cases.
Bioware Austin did give Edmonton advice on what to do because of their experience with the Old Republic but it was ignored. Edmonton thought they didn’t need the advice of a studio they saw as their b team.
It is crazy how much the Anthem situation mirrors Andromeda’s. Except it was Montreal that didn’t want Edmonton’s help because they didn’t want them taking credit. The biggest issue with Bioware is a lack of teamwork. Frostbite would be a distant second. They’ve literally don’t take anything they learn from previous Frostbite games to the next one. With Andromeda they had issues creating Inventory and Save systems. Edmonton had already done that with Inquisition 3 years earlier. Frostbite is a shit engine for the games they like to make but they aren’t doing themselves any favors by starting from scratch with each game.
I wonder if EA would get as big as they did if they never partnered with Square in the mid to late 90s. Square lacked the distribution network they have now outside of Japan, and EA handled all of Square’s US and European releases for a while.
Alot of PS1 Square Soft games will boot up as E.A. Square.
I am sure EA took their cut of that Final Fantasy money.
I know about the port, but I feel that the game would greatly benefit from some quality of life changes and asset upgrades. I had not heard of the spiritual sequel before, but the basis for the plot does not hook me in the same way. However, it might have some interesting ideas worth looking into. Thank you.
Not too much it is a pretty popular story in Europe. I forget if it originated as a book or comic book but I know it is one of those stories that from those origins has been popular enough to have a TV series, a failed US TV adaptation, the previous game and I guess this reboot game as well.
I saw this game for dirt cheap a few years ago. I looked up some videos and it seemed like a game I’d enjoy, so I went back to the place I saw it at. It was gone.
I recently saw the Wolfenstein: Double Pack sealed for dirt cheap. I own both of the games in the double pack already, but the collector in me wanted it strictly as a variant and because I’m a huge fan of the series. I said to myself it’ll be there when I swing by in a few days, and when I did it wasn’t.
I’ve had this happen a few times over the years. If you see a game you’re interested in at a good price, especially if it’s an older title pick it up or you might regret it like I have a couple of times over the years.
