Not every game needs to be 60-80 hours, super complex or balls to the walls hard. There are times where you just want to chill out and game without putting much into it. The past few Kirby games relieve that itch for me perfectly.
Kirby’s epic yarn is one of my favorite platformers just because of how chill it is. The environment, the music, the charm and even the game play (Turning into a giant Yarn Kirby Mech? Yes please). It’s just an all around relaxing and fun game
Kirby is easy mode platforming for its base game so kids or lazy adults (myself included) can make it through without a lot of hassle. If you want a challenge they usually throw a few wrinkles for the more demanding players.
Also Kirby and his cast of characters are cute, funny and sometimes get to fight or turn into straight up abominations.
They basically had to rebuild the weapon and customization system from the ground up for Season 2. Hardcore players maxed out everything in no time. It’s more like Destiny 1 in terms of gear and customizations now. Hardcores seem happy now at least.
The sad thing is that Activision and Bungie (and EA with Anthem) are likely gonna take the wrong message from this and just screw the pooch even further. Meanwhile, Capcom released a similar multiplayer loot grind game (albeit not sci-fi and not a shooter… most of the time) and did record sales while continually providing free content updates.
I’ve played through Forsaken and its definitely better than Destiny has been ever, as far as content goes at least. My problem with it is that it’s the same thing for four years now. It’s the best console shooter as far as gun mechanics and movement go, but it just gets repetitive. To be fair though, I logged 1,600 hours into Destiny 1, so I could be suffering from burnout.
Final boss in the bloodborne DLC was a bastard. I think The Nameless King in DS3 may have been a bit worse though, if only because that was such a long fight. BB’s ultra bastard went down much faster when I finally beat it.
I like how their first response is to look for more ways of monetization. Like isn’t that why a number of folks peaced out (and went to other games like Warframe or MonHun) at launch?
Yeah, monetizing gear in vanilla D2 was a huge mistake. I tried both Warframe and MHW. I hated Warframe because I couldn’t get into the controls and physics of the game. It just didn’t feel as good killing things. Monster Hunter is awesome and I spent some time with that, but it’s s completely different type of game.
