Fable was extremely popular as was Fable II. Fable III still sold really well despite being received less positively.
It went downhill quickly when they were forced to do a Kinect and a f2p game, but that’s another story and has absolutely nothing to do with the mainline titles (neither The Journey nor Legends were RPGs).
Don’t WRPGS do well on the Xbox systems? Don’t want to look up numbers since I’m on my phone but I’m pretty sure that’s the case, but I’m also still thinking of last-gen and the one before that.
I see this as another step for MS going all in on the Western/Non-Japanese market. Previous step being Ninja Theory, and a few other Western centric developers.
I’m not going to lie - I am mad hype for Etrian Odyssey Nexus, despite all of the negatives (recycled most everything for 2/3 of the dungeons, front-loaded selection of playable classes (yes, pun), diminished score, and sub-classing being so late game it might as well be an after-thought).
I still wish we’d gotten an EOU3.
Because if any of the games in that series deserved a retooled Remaster, it was EO3.
But at least we are getting PQ2.
It will be refreshing if they retooled magic to be relevant beyond status effects and Makoto clearing entire zones literally for free with light and dark insta gibs.
If they DO nerf Makoto, it will make room for P5 MC in my party.
I am one of THOSE cats who day-one figured out what the best party was, and ran with it through the whole game on Risky Mode, P3 MC side.
Anyone with PSVR needs to go out and get Astro Bot. The game is incredible and one of the best VR games out there and really makes me wonder what they can do with platformers in VR. It makes me wonder how incredible a Mario game could be in VR.
Pretty much this. Sure WRPGs came to PlayStation systems but they were usually lesser versions, especially back then. I didn’t know anyone who thought of From Software as WRPGs, especially during the PS1/2 eras. If that name popped up it was due to Armored Core. King’s Field didn’t become known until the Souls games became popular. Trying to sell FS as a WRPG developer is out of left field, lol.
With the rumored acquisition of Obsidian and the salt it’s starting, it feels like next-gen is in the pre-season phase.
I’m really surprised that AC games are still being made. They look just as shitty and buggy as they have been since the very first one and it looks like the whole repetitive thing has not changed a bit.
Yeah and people keep buying them and never learn. It’s times like this where I think about how dumb your average person is, and then remember that half the population is dumber than that.
WRPGs have been coming to consoles since consoles have been dropping for better or worse. They just got to the point of being closer to if not equal to their PC counterparts around the time of the Xbox and PS2 eras.
