FFS, I hope the writer’s speculation is wrong (title is “Microsoft needs Minecraft to boost mobile ambitions”). When the purchase rumor surfaced I thought MS just planned on cashing in on Minecraft’s marketability (i.e. merchandising), as well as collecting royalties by continuing to sell the franchise on even platform under the sun. Maybe they could get away with cockblocking sequels on Playstation. But spending all that money on it to buoy up their mobile arm? Sounds like pissing into the wind to me.
Minecraft 2 on Xbone 2 exclusively will probably nab M$ more than 2.5 billion, the current younger generations hooked on Minecraft will pass on their passion to their kids and the royalties on Minecraft’s current generation ports will be paying out the ass for years. M$ playing the long game financially, like I said smart financial move and this is coming from someone who didn’t hire private research firms to do the math to see if paying 2.5 billion for Mojang is worth is like m$ did, just using my common sense.
It be funny Notch signs a long term contract with for monjang to work with Sony before selling to Microsoft
forcing a microsoft subsidiary to develop for the PS4.
It unlikely but hilarious if it happens. When you do buy (or buy out) a business you also buy all their contracts and obligations.
Yea dude my younger sister (no I will not post pics) wont stop talking about Minecraft. Mention the word videogames and she explodes in a torrent of Minecraft.
Yup, today’s kids are all about that Minecraft. They haven’t heard of, care about or know shit about your Final Fantasies and JRPGs. Stop being old men that yells at clouds people.
Still better than Apple buying Beats headphones though. Minecraft is at least good. Beats never was.
First you question is Mojang is worth 2.5 billion and then you prove you’re ignorant to the fact that kids annoying the fuck out of their parents until they buy them “insert popular and probably violent game here” made up the majority of game sales in the 90’s
When I go to the library all I see is minecraft from the children’s computers. I don’t get the games appeal personally. Mining as always been my least favorite thing to do in games.
Yes! Thank you. Game seriously exploded in popularity yet I don’t see the appeal. I tried it way back in Alpha stages but just wasn’t feeling it. I can see how others may like it but it’s not for me.
