Yea except MGS4 is worse then MGS2 by a long shot. MGS3 is better then either of them, honestly best in the series at this particular moment.
MGS2 is a good game, but in a different way from usual. It’s a deconstruction of the expectations of sequels, he purposefully did things you’re not supposed to do with sequels in order to betray peoples expectations. Every single time the player went “WTF why?” it was a calculated decision on Kojima’s part.
MGS4 isn’t an apology, it’s Kojima giving up on thinking his fans where smart, throwing his hands in the air, and selling out, from the mechanics, to the half assed answeres to questions that where never supposed to have answers, MGS4 is Kojima giving up on his fanbase from an intellectual stand point. The fact you think it’s an apology Sennin speaks wonders for how narrow minded your viewpoint really is.
As far as MGS goes 4>3>2>1 IMO. INB4 someone (jokingly) says the unpopular opinion thread is thataway >>>>
The 5 fails of MGS2:
1- Plot made no sense.
2 - Liquid is now a hand…
3 - Snake was not playable.
4 - Snake replaced by annoying sissy boy with the worst love story in video game history.
5 - Villains sucked.

As far as MGS protaganists go Big Boss>Raiden> Solid snake
Solid snake was a very typical “Wolveine, leave me alone, leave me outta this, trying to be the everyman” anti hero.
I always thought he was very blah and by the book as far as what you expected out of a military protagonist at the time.

MGS2 was good and Raiden wasn’t bad. If you wanna cry about not using Snake then I guess MSG3, and Peace Walker are terrible because you not using Solid Snake

I can respect the philosophy behind his decision but not the execution. Raiden is a terrible main character and in no way a worthy replacement for snake. He’s just a effeminate anime stock character with a dull personality and even less interesting side story. Rose was arguably the worst thing in the game and really dragged him down. Snake is a war legend who single handily took down liquid…what’s raiden’s biggest accomplishment outside growing his hair.
As for MGS4…judging by his interviews it’s pretty clear it’s a indirect apology. He tried to fix all the plotholes MGS2 created hence why the cutscenes were so long in MGS4.

This was the best part about MGS2, and I absolutely loved it. When I was being rung up the clerk told me “Don’t look at the manual.”. So I went with it and was taken totally by surprise. Unfortunately, the rest of the game doesn’t hold up, but you don’t know that until you go to replay it, and that’s where the boring bosses and setting are just absolutely anemic and devoid of life.
The first MGS set the bar so high in setting, characters and player immersion, that it would’ve been a tough act to follow. MGS 3, hits 2/3 of those and is it’s closest competition. The 4th Wall aspect in MGS is nothing short of genius and STILL hasn’t been touched.
These posts, especially the bolded are my feelings about MGS4. It’s better than 2, but it’s there’s that feeling of there’s going to be something bigger, that ultimately leads to nothing.
The one thing that MGS 4 did do right, was not having people hate Raiden anymore, but directing that hate towards Kojima, since Raiden finally became a badass but wasn’t playable.

MGS 1 is still tops for reasons already mentioned. The other two are just really great games in the universe that carved their own niche in greatness, with Rising being more of a further testament to Platinum’s skill in making games.
That all said, I have high hopes for the Phantom Pain since it’s an odd numbered entry in the series.

MGS2 could be summed up as, tanker demo + whiny bishounen phag. Only good thing from MGS2 was Fortune, gaming’s first yellow bone.

Raiden accomplishments as of MGS2. Extremely skilled child soldier, took out an elite military cover ops squad by himself, took out a clone of Big Boss (That thing Liquid is remember), destroyed multiple Metal Gear Rays on his own, and survived the Big Shell incident.
Pretty glowing record if you ask me.
MGS2 doesn’t have plot holes, it has questions you where meant to think about and come to your own conclusions on, Kojima over estimated his fanbase, turns out most of them are dumb as bricks, incapable of thinking for themselves. Congrats on being a part of that large group.
IDK how people can act like there is such a gap in quality between all the metal gear titles mostly it is dependant on preference as to which one you feel is worst or best.
