Video Game General 2.0: Yo Dawg I Heard You Like Remasters And Ports

I’m indifferent to Fish & his game, but as I understand it he blew up because he was tweeting about the Ferguson shooting & people kept asking him about Fez 2.

Ultimately, you reap what you sow, but in this context it’s no different than when Kaimya flips his little Japanese table (which I adore) imo.

I’m a fan of the Kamiya comebacks myself.

The tweet with Andy Kaufman pic is hilarious. Trying to be ironic? In the context of people tweeting him about it, while he’s tweeting about the Ferguson shooting, maybe it wasn’t?

By the by, do we have a release date for Ghost Song? Do we even know what platform it’s coming out on? I heard it was gonna be a WiiU exclusive or something. The wait is killing me.

Fez is a boring game. Fish is doing us a favor by ending development of the sequel.

Here’s the latest that we’ve been given:

Also in spoilers is the update received in May, if you’re interested.

[details=Spoiler]Release date?

I think it’s probably time to talk a bit about release date. This seems to be the elephant in the room, since the Kickstarter states May 2014.

The first thing to understand about that date is it was set back around July of last year, before the Kickstarter even launched, simply because in the project submission you have no choice but to estimate a delivery date. At that time, I really had no way of knowing, and it was a pretty wild guess. I’ve gone through a few phases and growing pains since then, and while things are going smoothly now, I had no way of knowing last summer what all I’d face.

While I have help and support here and there from talented people, the majority of the game, tasks large and small, are currently being done solely by me. I’m wearing more hats than a thing that wears a lot of hats, in Phoenix, in the summer. I’m trying to find a way to hire an artist, that remains something on the table, and Roger does great music and sounds, but aside from that it’s mostly just me.
Gel Bomb Gel Bomb

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, and I enjoy the process and feel more confident than ever in the game. I’ve made more progress in terms of solidifying mechanics, scoping the game, and bringing the project into focus over the past two months than ever before. It’s only very recently that the project has really felt like it’s coming together. A lot of credit goes to Stencyl and Jon [the owner of Stencyl] for making this all so much less painful than it could be. A toolset like Stencyl gets a lot of the technical tedium out of the way (though there is always some technical tedium) and lets me more efficiently spend my time on game design.

In short, I’m making great progress, but suffice it to say, a May 2014 release is not going to be reality.

So let’s talk turkey. When are you going to be able to play this game? My current goal is to have the game done in 2014, which would likely mean Fall or Winter. This will not be easy, but I do think it’s possible, especially given how much progress I’ve made lately. This also isn’t a promise, though, and while uncertainty around the release date bothers me, and it pains me if any of you are upset about this, the ultimate goal must be delivering the game that I promised and making it good enough that no one regrets backing it. I think most of you will forgive me for overshooting a release date, but most of you wouldn’t if the game was a stinker. I have to set priorities. My reputation is at stake, and finishing the game and finishing it well are all I care about at this point.**

Over the next couple months, I do hope to have a playable beta out to beta backers. I’ll put up a private forum for us to discuss the game together. This build will likely contain bugs and won’t include all of the game’s content, but hopefully those who want to get more into the process or just check out the game will have that chance this Summer.

Since I know you’ll ask, I have nothing to announce on console ports yet, but understand that I identify myself as a console gamer and that fascination with consoles remains a motivating factor in my decision making. I have heard little things here and there, and I think a Wii U port is completely possible, but, again, it’s not anything I can really talk about publicly yet.**

Thanks for understanding, and if you have questions I’m always a click or two away.

Anyone here finish Tales of Xilia? Im trying to trudge through it again but its a chore and its honestly making me wanna never play a Tales of game again…can anyone gauge on how far. I am? This is where im at…

Spoiler

Just beat King Nachtigal and just had the boss fight against thay trio of jiao, wingul, and presa. And we are still on our way to the Lance of Kresnik

Any one know how far that is? I feel like a masochist playing this shit

@Drellyfish a good way to do it, assuming it follows the same kind of plot tracking as Vesperia, is to go to the in game synopsis and see what chapter you’re on. Then find a walkthrough and scroll through the index and see what chapter the game ends. I’m on Chapter 50 something of Vesperia and that game has like 132 chapters if I remember correctly. That game is long as shit. I’ve taken about 3 breaks from playing it long term. I’ve owned it over 4 months and I’m not even half way done with it yet. Doesnt help that you have to spend an entire day grinding every once in a while to make sure your dont get steam rolled by the next boss. That said I do love the hell out of Vesperia. I can only play it so much though.

I just had a random thought about current Shooter games. They dont have enough night time maps, if at all. I love those maps where it’s night time, raining, or both. It’s just nice to see a break from blinding desert sunlight every game. Storm in MW2 was one of my favorite shooter maps because I liked the atmosphere of it. Rainy, muggy and dark with lightning and thunder about. It was just cool

I think xilia had 4 chapters and Im on 3. I sometimes gotta grind for cash but even with temp. Bonus for gold I still get wack payout. If I play it everyday I can probably finish this week. But the gameplay is fun. But I don’t give A FUCK about its boring plot and in rpgs the plot is usually what keeps me going. Doesn’t have to be grand but atleast presented in a way in which I wanna see whats gonna happen next.

If the combat wasn’t fun I probably would’ve dropped it. Because the characters are also kinda irritating especially Jude, Alvin, Elize and Teepo. But im gonna look at a synopsis to see where im at

Xilia definitely has a different synopsis display then. Pretty much every time your objective changes in Vesperia it starts a new chapter in the synopsis. The combat is fun there too, but character movement in the fight is a tad clunky. Having to hold left trigger to move is pretty stupid.

The game also has FAR too much of the group almost splitting up and then just barely randomly deciding to stay together until something gets done, and then almost splitting up when they get there, and then finding another reason to stay together, wash, rinse, repeat. The first two times it happened it was understandable, but now it’s just a crutch for the script and it doesnt even try to hide it.

Looks like he’s putting a lot of love and care into the game. Everything I’ve seen so far is incredible, so I hope he takes as long as he needs with it to get everything just right. :tup :

You seem to have a strangely intimate knowledge of what Kojima is and isn’t a fan of and what he does and doesn’t know about.

Given that he’s never expressed a interest or fondness of the SH series until just recently and that it doesn’t seem like he’s in contact with any of the team silent members…I don’t see how my assumption is that far off. Kojima even admits he is a fan of western pop culture so it’s not presumptuous of me to guess that he isn’t the biggest fan of SH which is a very "japanease product"at least according to akira yamaoka.

I will always argue being a fan of the series doesn’t make someone the best man for the job. The previous producer of the series was a big fan and all he did was fuck it up. I’m not concerned about Kojima not being a fan. At least it ensures he doesn’t have a misguided idea of what the series is about.

He hasn’t expressed an interest or fondness for much of anything outside his own projects, even when he talks about something like movies, it’s always with how they relate to his current project, doesn’t mean he doesn’t know or like things outside of said subjects. You’re taking a lack of evidence to something and jumping off the deep end with it. It’s dumb.

Hullet is a bad example because the man was a fucktard who didn’t even understand the plot or meaning behind SH.

It’s just worth pointing out that hideo has never even mentioned SH before and remember…he made MGS2.

You just mad you had to play a game as not Snake. MGS2 was alright.

MGS2 has nothing to do with SH, and besides MGS2 is a brilliant deconstruction of a sequel, it’s funny your talking about people failing to understand something then mention a game in a negative light that most people fail to understand.

This thread needs less arguing and more Ghost Song circle jerking.

That’s what the Ghost Song thread is for. I was in there a few minutes ago and you’ve made it all sticky and smelly.

Game does look pretty dope tho, and has done a good job giving itself it’s own identity after those first screens and videos.

The franchise has 4 terrible sequels so my skepticism is justified. I’m also not saying the game will be trash but given how easy it is to slip on, the potential for hideo to fuck up is very high.

On a unrelated note…since when did MGS2 become a good game?

The game almost ruined the franchise and MGS4 was a apology to the fans.
