I want to add two more to this list you have of shooters that are inherently not just shooters.
Transformers: War For Cybertron
Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron
Also helps that they’re damn good games even besides all the TF fan franchise nods/porn(i.e. obscure characters from far out in TF get to do some cool stuff, you get the idea of what I meant there), the mechanics are top-notch.
Why don’t more people talk about those two?
Because there were 3 or 4 really shitty movie tie in games that came out before and even the new one is slated close to the movie release date so Gen Pop is still associating them with the crud. They reviewed well (8.5 is the average from what ive seen) but not well enough to make them any more than the sleeper hit that they were. I will speculate a bit and say the new one has a better chance seeing how next gen is still in a bit of a drought and people may give it the chance it deserves.
I actually tried one of those but I didn’t really find it very fun honestly.
Oh, and as for Bioshock, I actually don’t really like it THAT much, but it is different and it does have a lot of interesting worthwhile things about it, I think it just had bad execution. Infinite is much better in pace, difficulty, powers, and character IMO, but even Infinite has it’s issues.
Having just finished Infinite, I thought it had some of the most unsatisfying gunplay I’ve ever experienced in an FPS (made worse because some of the weapons felt like re-skins of others, yet couldn’t share the same ammo). It was a shame, as I really liked the setting & presentation until~
Spoiler
the latter half where the Vox successfully revolted. At that point it more resembled the typical, barren, war-torn battlefield we’ve seen so many times before.
I want an explanation. and a Apology from Capcom-wherever-the-fuck studios made/supported this.
This game is as boring and uneventful as the last of us, but it’s a BEAT’EM UP GAME. I Spent more time climbing and listening to mono and diologues than I did fighting. and the fighting is just as aweful as the Arkham series.
I was super-excited for the memory-remix parts of the game. They were like a spiritual successor to Ghost Trick. When I found out there were only four of them, that just killed my interest in the game completely.
LOL, next we going to agree Smash is a fighter or CoD and Battle field aren’t just retreads of previous versions of the game.
I not really ragging on you, I just felt you have up on that too easily. Splatoon isn’t a shooter. Its Nindy making a old-school-Nickelodeon themed paint ball simulator.
Bioshock, Uncharted and so on they are not shooters, they are 3D adventure games with guns as the shooting aspect is not the main point of the game.
Then I can call Skyrim a shooter (which it isn’t), your Character still gets ranged weapons and attacks right. Whats the difference between a shot gun, a plasma riffle and a fire ball spell in a video game other than some text and context.
Paintball is not a shooter now? Plus by your definition dark, Splatoon would be a shooter since the shooting aspect is the main part of the game (shooting paintballs).
Just to point out though, it’s been stated multiple times that the “Paint the stage for win” isn’t the only multiplayer mode in Splatoon. There is a 1v1 mode along with unannounced others.
Anyway someone mentioned CoD so gotta post this fan art.
Note that I did play Call of Duty out the ass last gen and went to tournaments for it. Pic is just a joke, I might have burned out on it when BO2 came out but I understand why people enjoy it.
Man the horrible fighting was so bad that it made me look forward to the trolling shit you could do in the memory remixes.
And it’s stupid because there is this free form mode you earn as a Super ability, Which lets you play the game like it should be played. open ended combo building.
man they have this wack ass enemy type that forces you to eat damage. and make use of healing chains in your combos, and the combos don’t matter because the enemies don’t live long enough.
