What? Capcom? They’re not the only ones who make fighters… There are a bunch of lesser known fighters with ambitious design choices that end up being really great games. They just get no burn because, well, no one cares unless it’s Street Fighter, Marvel, or, to a lesser extent, MK.
I picked Capcom because it applies to all of the genres you stated. There are hundreds of games with ambitious design choices in every genre that have the same damn problem. Ain’t shit changed.

You can add Nintendo’s Splatoon to the unique shooter list. Game looks like a breath of fresh air as far as shooters go

Valkyria Chronicles was pretty fresh. I started it last week. To test. Really love the game. It gets me to start talking shit when an enemy is moving and gets shot up for walking in line of sight lol
The objective of the game isn’t to actually shoot your opponents, though. IIRC, your goal is to cover as much of the stage in your own ink as possible. I can’t confidently call that a shooter.
The guns don’t have to shoot bullets to be a shooter, but not everything with a gun in it is a shooter. Saying Splatoon is a shooter because you shoot “stuff” out of a gun is like saying Smash is a fighter because you punch and kick. At the end of the day, it’s all debatable, but we need a better set of criteria for these classifications.

It’s a shooter that removes Killcounts importance. You can still “kill” other players with the ink but it won’t do much. Doesn’t make it any less of a shooter. It’s one where stage control is the game.
I think Splatoon is a shooter lol. It doesn’t have to be straight up its FPS/TPS or die lol. Its just a unique one and it a genre bender. Just as Fallout games are shooters but apparently its an rpg first and foremost, I can be corrected on that since I ain’t played no Fallouts

From what we know about BF: Hardline that looks accurate, and that gif is a compliment because the game looks fucking amazing and this is coming from someone who doesn’t play a lot of FPS anymore. That being said I’d be shocked if Evolve doesn’t sweep the competition as far as all competitive shooters go, I’d rather play that than just about any upcoming multiplayer shooter including Splatoon which looks insanely fun.
Is halo no longer a shooter when you are playing crazy king? Is Cod not one when your on domination? Are you no longer playing fighting games if you win by time out? cmon dog dont be basic.
Been playing the beta I’m supremely dissapointed in the multiplayer unless theres some sort of goodness in the campaign (El-oh-fucking-el) or some dope co-op shit I’ll recommend the pass. It’s exactly what youd think same old battlefield. anyone who pays a full 60 + tax for hardline is an idiot

We’re not talking about game modes, we’re talking about actual infrastructure. Splatoon’s infrastructure doesn’t match up with those of actual shooters. The only thing it has in common is that it has “guns.”
