Wow! That’s absolutely sublime. And greater still for that fact that you did this all in Surrey
Thanks very much for those extra pictures of the control panel and explanation of how it’s made up.
Awesome contribution. Thank you for posting this.
lol, thanks!
Thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks!
I still have a lot of work to do on these plans to make them as complete as possible. I spent a couple of hours last night trying to draw the top piece plans in Photoshop and failed. I’ll give it another go soon. If anyone has any specific questions in the meantime, let me know and I’ll be happy to answer them.
more updates! haha. did you get a vinyl made for the side panels? and if so can u put it on a downloadable file and tell us what size it is.
Yes I need to get the plans and other updates sorted! I’ve been too busy enjoying myself with the cab. I’m going to get a 12v power supply tomorrow for the LED’s so should should almost be finished with it. I’m seriously thinking about making some panels for the back. If I do, these will probably be in black and once they’re fitted I’ll look at the sideart again as this may change the balance of things. More pictures soon and hopefully a video as well.
Well I managed to get around my Photoshop shortcomings by using a different paint package. I’ve added the plans for the Top Section on the first page.
Thanks… this is really kind from you… keep going please! (and dont forget to post more pictures of your cab :P)
Subscribed. Though I cant use those measurements can I? I gotta find a site that’ll convert those to american measurements >.>
No problem. I don’t want to leave it partially complete.
Sorry about the measurements being in metric. Can you let me know what imperial thicknesses your MDF comes in (18mm, 12mm and 6mm equivalents) and I’ll update the plans to include both metric and imperial measurements. I’m assuming they are 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 inch.
Hm shit. Its been awhile since I’ve messed around with MDF wood. But Ima have to say you’re spot on.
Amazing work - very well done!
I’m curious - what is the height from the floor to the surface of the buttons? i.e. the total height from the floor to the surface your hands rest on?
I’m considering having a cabinet built using yours as a basis though I may also end up reworking a custom made desk I recently bought to work in a similar way by adding a detachable tray to hold my sticks. Key is getting the height right - as it stands currently, when I place my stick on top of my desk it sits just a little bit too high.
Again - very well done. That cabinet is a work of art
Edit: I found what I was after via the PDFs you linked from the retail Vewlix manuals. For those interested, the retail Vewlix cabinet height from the floor to the surface your hands rest on is ‘officially’ 71cm. Looking at your plans, it looks like yours is the same - 60cm for the base you have built + 7.2cm for the stick/control housing.
Thanks for linking those PDFs - much appreciated
Hi Gamogo, thanks for the feedback. I also found the pdf’s very useful to get an idea of the measurements. The height is about the same as the real machine as you have mentioned but having just measured it again, it’s marginally lower. The base is 60cm, the adjustable feet add another 2.5 cm and the height of the panel is 7.2 cm so it’s just shy of 70cm. The adjustable feet wold go higher if necessary to make it accurate but tbh it’s an extremely comfortable height and I can’t see me changing it.
I’d be curious to know more about your proposed build.
Question, looking at the pieces of the cp, it seems there are a few odd shaped pieces that make up the cp; can you please give measurements for the components of the control panel, plz? thx
Hi, the CP construction is fairly complex in terms of putting the plans together (not that difficult to build though) so I’m splitting the construction into several parts. I’ve updated the first page with part 1 of the plans and a description and materials list.
U Da Man, thx. Really appreciate all the hard work your putting into the plans, we know you don’t have to, but it is really appreciated, chief.
PS: When you have completed the cp for your pc, my friends are interested in seeing it…they’re pressuring me to build one as well
EDIT: Are the bevelled edges done at 45 degrees or what? This will be my first time doing this, just want to make sure it’s right, thx
Thanks for posting the updates!
So ericleroi, right now… what’s still missing on your project??
No problem about doing the plans. The bevelled edges are all 45 degree cuts.
Here’s a list of things can think of:
- The CP section requires updating to include more detail on the back, lid, insides and main joystick section with additional info on making the moveslist inlay.
- The front panels need documenting including making the speaker grill, the shelves for the speakers and monitor, the black bars to hide the monitor, the monitor mount and the marquee.
- Some more info on how to attach the top piece to the sides to get the bevelled edges to line up correctly.
- Some more information on the finishing (filling, vinyl application, painting, varnishing etc) is required.
Edit: For the actual build itself, I still have to source some silver inlay material for the moveslist. I’m really struggling with this at the moment. I do also want to make a back for the cab as well but am thinking how best to do this. I also need to do the side art. It plays great though.
I realised my XBOX was out of warranty so I disassembled it and cleaned up the thermal paste and applied some better stuff (MX5). I also took the opportunity to clean up the DVD drive and re oil some the metal guide rails. The RROD are now gone and the drive is a lot quieter and has removed the grinding noise it was making on slowdown. Hope it lasts!!
Updated the plans with speaker grill construction details.
