Vega (Claw) Thread

Define what you mean by “if he screws up a Psycho Crusher”.

you have to anticipate his ball and flip kick, since you cant really touch him after it on block.
other then that try to pressure him and if he’s stupid enough top do his electricity slide him.

Actually, you can sometimes (timing? random? position?) c.MP the ball now.

I can’t do the super for some reason, help.

If he does it and you block it…and he doesn’t wind up in your face for the throw (which I swear god must be free) you should be able to sweep him.

Oh and Ganelon, I’ve got the c.mp punish to work consistently. But just incase, you can always do the “take a half step forward and st. FP”

I’ll just leave this here…

You realize the super only busts if you grab your opponent. Work on your Izunas.

So I’m a total Vega noob, but he doesn’t seem to be used that much online and his poke game is insane! Lots of questions to follow so bear with me…

I checked the wiki but theres nothing on it about his BnB combos (anything aside from c.mk, c.mk, c.mp?). Anything for crossups now that walldive doesn’t knock down?

What about after you score a knockdown? Is walldive shenanigans the best option?

Is there a trick to getting his super to come out? I don’t think I’ve gotten it to work even once…

Also, how do you guys start the match? I try Slide for easy knockdown, but sometimes get stuffed… If I just wait to see what my opponent does I always get stuffed…

Any and all help is appreciated.

j. Fierce, s. Fierce, cr. Strong and j. RH, s. RH, cr. Strong do sick damage but the timing is really weird (you need to delay like a frame before the cr. Strong). Practice it a lot.

I have tested this against an average Blanka and St.Fierce gets him everytime. Cr.Strong doesn’t always work, cuz when Blanka does a Fierce full screen Roll, he lands farther away after the block than when he does it point blank.

If you guys are talking about hitting Blanka WHILE he’s Rolling as opposed to hitting him after a blocked Roll, then Cr.Jab works, doesn’t it?

Thank you sir, thank you.

I also don’t run into a lot of Vegas online. This is cool for me that he seems to be kind of an underdog character in this, to the degree that everyone hopped to either Akuma or HD Blanka. What perplexes me is that it seems his trickier matchups (Blanka, Bison, Honda) got even tougher. How could this happen?

thats easy.

his wall dives doesn’t knock down on hit anymore so no more ambiguous crossups one after another

also, blanka and bison got buffed up.

Baiting DPs from Shotos with fake wall dives seems to only work with scrubs. My Vega is only effective with scrubs, actually. I’m still learning.

What’s some good high/low mixup for opponents you knock down? Right now I’m just claw rolling -> c.mp. It usually stuns if you can get it to hit. If it’s blocked, I usually have time to wall dive back to safety, or I use c.rh to get closer for more pressure. I don’t know where to go from there.

I know why his matchups are harder, it just kind of sucks that he didn’t get anything kind of new to help him. You’re really gonna have to struggle to win some of those matches.

For high/low mixups, I like on wake up meaty low forward, low forward, low strong (this combos), or I also am a big fan of jump straight up short or roundhouse, and then proceed into low forward, low strong link combo or a throw attempt.

after a knockdown,

-go for a wall dive. while it doesn’t knock down anymore it is still ambiguous on which way to block.

-you can also wait for them to get up try to go for his izuna drop

-or you can jump in hp/hk into c.mk into c.mp for a 3 hit combo, which by now would dizzy your opponent

-or empty jump/tick/walk up into throw

-you can also do another slide to close more distance and go for a c.lp/c.mp into claw roll although there are gaps between the c.lp/c.mp into claw roll

-you can also keep doing slides until you’re point blank and then flip kick your opponent on wake up (not recommended as its very risky) but sometimes, it just works

i dont find blanka or honda being any trickier. honda might have actually gotten easier since its easier to hit honda out of his hundred hand slaps

even in vanilla ST, ambiguous wall dive BS doesn’t work on blanka. you can still punish a blocked ball with vega easier than most characters in the game and the same strats that worked in vanilla ST against blanka also works in this game. blanka still have trouble getting in on vega in this game. c.lp, c.mp barrage still stuffs everything blanka does and now he takes more damage after getting hit out of his blanka ball.

claw roll is still good vs blanka after a knockdown and he still havent have a good answer to that move.

flip kick is essential of keeping blanka out. just dont let blanka get in and/or cross you up and you’ll be fine.

theres more i wanna add about blanka vs vega but i’ll add later.

bison is probably vega’s worst match, even in vanilla ST

Psycho Crusher seems to actually be fairly unsafe on block. If you block it and he ends up next to you, try to throw him. It’ll work most of the time and if he for some reason gets his off first, you’ll end up softening it. I don’t play Vega much, but try the flip kick or c.mp or c.hp. Normals hit the PC very easily.

Then again, I don’t use the Crusher much against Vega, so I’m unsure.

I think I really miss the free fierce after a blocked ball. Also, since his rolling attacks look the same now, it’s tough to figure out quickly if it’s the fierce one so you can flip kick, or slide or something if it’s a short one.
