Nah, I’d say it was boxer and probably still is. A rushdown boxer, given any break, doles out too much damage and has too great a guessing advantage.
Dictator in ST was a pretty even match for the sole fact that his poking pressure is counterbalanced by claw’s wall dive pressure. Now, without those opportunities, claw has to play runaway guerilla tactics even harder in that match.
Honda actually seems the same, if not a bit easier since he can’t perform his oicho loop and the oicho doesn’t have as much dizzy to it.
Losing knockdown on wall dives probably hurt the dictator and Dhalsim matchups the most since they were just free hits.
Heh, don’t you mean they all sound the same? Anyway, as you can read here, a s.HP is still a supposedly free counter after a ball; just don’t take the step forward like you did in ST. However, it didn’t work 100% for me, which I can’t tell whether I was late or if I was slightly lagged playing online.
Anyway, the character I’m most concerned about now is Gouki. Sure, his air fireball isn’t of much threat but the insane hitboxes on most of his attacks seem like they can beat out claw’s pokes.
Today I landed meaty jab roll, cr.MP as a combo. I timed the meaty so that only the end(the claw) connected. It was first by accident as I was trying to do a MP Roll. But if that combos then I guess meaty jab roll,cr.MK,cr.MP is also a combo.
After a knockdown I usually do meaty Fierce Roll, cr.StrongxxJab Roll. The Jab Roll can be jumped out of or stuffed, but I only worry about that once my opponent actually does it. If they start jumping out of it or interrupting then I stop at cr.Strong and wait for them to do something(st.Roundhouse for AA and st.Fierce for whiffed interrupt). I love flow charts.
I either start the round with a st.Fierce for projectile characters or I just block.
I played against a Chun Li today. I’ve cleanly stuffed Lightning Kick with standing Fierce a number of times. I have a habit of doing cr.MP after making contact with walldive but Chun Li’s far fierce is hefty.
Overall Vega really needs no combos. Has excellent pokes, range, speed, quick damaging throw, mobility. If anything they’re an added bonus. Like I said that is the only combo I really ever use, but I can go many matches winning w/o even using it.
What normals can Vega do to stuff a Honda Headbutt? So far, all I have is u+short which also happens to stuff Sumo Smash. But I’m looking for something I can do on the ground a la T.Hawk’s cr.Jab.
ARGH! What the hell can I do to Guile to convince him that he shouldn’t hold d/b all damn day? I can’t get close enough to force any damage. If I walk to close he can do cr.MK and if I jump over that he recovers fast enough to do flash kick. Wall Dives get eaten up by RH Flash Kick and only scrubs fall for the fake, good Guiles just wait until Vega comes in range of RH FK. If I try jab roll to chip then I get RH FK. I can push him around alot with normals but they don’t do any chip. I was waiting for Sonic Booms, but they didn’t come.
Slide from max distance is what made Vega destroy Guile in the first place, because GUile couldn’t stop it with anything. Not even Razor Kick. That was Sirlin’s motivation for making the Roundhouse Razor Kick reach so far… to stop Vega’s slide. To be honest, it’s really bad at doing that, so sliding from max distance is still a great strat. If GUile throws Sonic Booms too much so you can’t slide, it’s too easy to just Jump over and pressure form then.
Fake Wall Dive is AWESOME against Guile, IMO. He can’t really do anything to stop you from doing it, so it’s not about baiting the Roundhouse Flash Kick, it’s just about lulling the opponent to sleep. Do it a couple of times (make sure you fake immediately when touching the wall, or let yourself go over any Sonic BOoms and then drop), but not constantly. Just do it, then stop. Then do a couple and stop, etc. And basically, once you do it enough times, go for a long range attack. If Guile Razor Kicks, usually you can get behind him and stab the Razor Kick from behind, especially if he just does it on reaction to you getting close. After many fakes, one good rush to the other side off the wall if a great way to catch Razor Kicks from behind (again, go off the back wall, but hold Forward the whole time. I don’t mean go off the opposite wall). If Guiles wait til you get over them to Razor Kick after turning around, that means they are waiting long enough to just get grabbed by it, usually.
Really, the key is the max range slide. It’s the best pressure you can give, and sets him up to Block a lot. Throw in Jab Rolls once you get him trained to block the slide alot, though he still CAN react with a Razor Kick, so watch out for that.
One thing I don?t see a lot of vegas using is on the S.roll. The last part is invincible. If you time it right and they go for a wake up move. boxer head but and long?s flame kick will clean go throw it .Giving you an easy throw. But it’s all about timeing!
I?m sure it works on dp?s as well. No reason not to.
You can walk forward and c.strong any fierce Blanka ball on block. I’ve never had it miss. Just block, take 1 step forward, d strong. That shit hits all day.
Guile has been stuffing my slides with cr.forward. Slide was the main normal I was referring to when I said I can push him around but not do damage. I know of the ways to beat Sonic Boom, the problem is that I can’t get Guile to do a Sonic Boom.
The problem with that is the Guile was in the corner and they were waiting for me to be airborne in RH FK’s range, which is pretty far ahead. I did many fakes, he did nothing. I do a real one, RH FK. They can react and do it so soon that there’s no way I’m passing over them. I just can’t visualize what you’re saying.
The only thing I could come up with is risk a jab roll at some point to get ahead in life then turtle to make him go on the offensive.
Yeah, you’re supposed to slide into position and then mix up pokes to stuff anything Guile puts out. If it looks like he’s getting too comfy blocking or you want to mix it up, throw him (s.LK is a good tick).
If this guy lives near you, have him come up to one of the next C3s and I’ll show how it’s done.
That Guile(he was some random dude on XBL) only poked to push me back out if I was going for throw, so I was failing with the counter pokes. I couldn’t throw him because I could never get in that range. Me walking forward was met with a cr.forward.
