Vega (Claw) Thread

^yeah but that’s ST. Gief’s hitbox on cr.hk is bigger now and I get a lot more trades than I like just abusing c.mp

Nope.

I played last night but didn’t meet any Gief’s to try this on. I think it’s maybe indicative of a few things:-

  1. Keep it simple vs Zangeif - Wall dives are not safe vs lariat, and should probably by kep to claw tip dives.

  2. Zangeif SHOULD have a seriously hard time getting on Claw - if he doesn’t then you are probably faffing around trying fancy stuff that doesn’t actually work that well vs Gief.

  3. Vega’s C:MP is a godly normal in certain circumstances and his C:HP is pretty good too.

It actually struck me that apart from Hawk’s DP this could work well vs him too - except you would have to use the flip kick on the Hawk Dive. I suspect it might even work well vs Boxer to a point with a few C:HK slides thrown in.

I really need to experiment with this more.

Walldives are actually still quite safe against Gief as long as you only hit with the tip which is all you should ever do with it. It beats Lariat cleanly or lariat simply whiffs against it at which point you can simply slide it.

But if they start using :d::hp: or :u::mp: you will need to mix it up with other tactics as well as mixing up the range at which you hit with the tip to fake them out.

It’s not quite as good a tactic as it was in ST but it’s something you can mix in with your keepout if you need to apply pressure to Gief.

Send me an invite tonight to whoever is interested in testing it against my 'Gief. Although I’m from the UK so lag against 50% of the US players.

I’ll play you and I’m uk too - gamertag = smokemare

Just had a 10 game session with Sharizord testing some stuff. I’ll be on after 9pm tonight for some games though. Guess Shari will post here so I’ll do the 'Gief thread.

I don’t have anything new to input based on when we played but if you feel you learned something pertaining to the matchup in claws view share it if you may.

Good stuff.

Nice to finally have visually evidence of Claw being able to super blanka.
I’ve been doing Air throw against Ken super for a while but had not considered it verus Honda Splash. Will have to learn the timing for that.

To be honest most of the matches just confirmed what I already knew. I was trying a few new pokes to see what traded but nearly everything went in Claw’s favour.

While a lot of Zangief’s matches are based on predicting and out-thinking the opponent, I feel Claw’s superior ground game gives him the advantage of being able to sit on a life lead and reacting (rather than predicting) to Zangief’s moves.

Perhaps you can tell me what moves I could have done to trade more in my favour?

I am really reallly bad at Gief but against walldives just do :d::hp: it’s the most consistent answer to it.

Other than that i have no real advice for you.

I could have told you that from experience

Can someone confirm a theory I have on Vega’s Super? I think it has better range and is safer than the standard Izna drop - I say this because I have been experimenting using it vs Blanka’s electricity. I have not ONCE been able to normal Izna drop Blanka out of electric - but several times I have super’d him out of it?

Is this right?

In my experience yes it has more range.

Unsure about any specific data on it though.

it was cr.hp that got more hitboxes (aka i’m dumb).

man, gief’s cr.hk is just really buff then, lol.

I managed to play a couple of Zangrief’s last night and experiment with the C:MP, C:HP tactic. It does work! And you can frustrate the hell out of Greif with it, the trickier one to time is the C:HP. I find the normal problem with Zangreif is that he deals so much damage a normal fight of trading hits leaves my hitting him MORE but still losing.

Starting the fight just using C:MP and C:HP as a keep away meant that once the fight got started proper the damage was fairer and I could still win. Having said that I did get one perfect using C:MP and C:HP and erm, one wall dive? Something like that… I don’t think he was the best Griefer on XBL though.

The green hand seems to hit C:HP so the trick is tu use C:MP and be ready to swap as soon as he takes to the air. If you let out a C:MP as he’s jumping - backflip back and start again as you won’t have time to hit with the tip on the C:HP.

Spanish Clawing Ninja Turtle! Spanish Clawing Ninja Turtle! Spanish Clawing Ninja Turtle! Turtle in a white mask! Turtle power!

Ugh.

I’m wondering if Zangief can splash or knee his way through cr.:hp:…or possibly Banishing Flat after a missed cr.:mp: and stuff the next move…or Kick Lariat through cr.:mp: and then SPD. There has to be something 'Gief can do. This fight can’t be that easy.

What about the buff to lariat? Psychic lariat?

Was testing the knee and splash and the knee sometimes traded or even won out right from some distances, the main problem is getting close enough. Claw’s medium punch pushes 'Gief at a distance where a lot of his options are ineffective.
