Get the timing and feel for doing :hk: flipkick x2 down so you can do it 100%.
Pokes are generally safe it’s more a matter of not falling into patterns which is why you get psychic dp’d.
Take some time and experiment with controlling the walldive in practice mode.
Not just crossups but also half screen walldives and fakes without using the actual fake :k: dive.
Oh and switch to using the analog on the pad. Having tried it now to get my mic to work the Pad is laughably bad but the analog is atleast usable.
And you need to work on being handsome enough. :arazz:
Sharizord, I finally managed to integrate your normals analysis into my streetfighter faq I put them at the end of the normals section - let me know if you can think of any more improvements.
get out of dhalsim’s sliding LK noogie throw trap??? I have such a beastly time with it…is it hopeless once you get caught in it? I main vega, so I’m not sure if I can reverse the trap either. any help would be greatly appreciated.
General And Claw Specific Tick Throw Countering Notes
According to the SF2 Data page at NKI’s website (http://nki.combovideos.com/data.html#distance), Vanilla ST Dhalsim has more throw range than Claw does. According to David Sirlin’s HDR Changes page on his site, however, he said that he reduced Dhalsim’s throw range on his Yoga Noogie grab. (Note that he did not touch the fierce throw’s range, so that throw still outranges Claw’s throw range.) So…I don’t have an exact number regarding who has the bigger throw range.
However, that being said, if both of their throw ranges are the same, here are your options for countering tick throws in general.
Reversal throw.
Reversal special move that is instantly invincible or aerial.
The reversal window is the frame right before you come out of hit stun or block stun. You can use either of the above options and they will come out one frame before Dhalsim can grab you. So, to make this specific to Claw…
If Dhalsim is within your throw range, a reversal throw will grab him first.
If Dhalsim is outside of your throw range, a reversal Scarlet Terror (charge db, f+:k:) or (is this possible?) a reversal Backflip (3:p: or 3:k:) will hit him before he can throw you. (Hmmm…would a reversal Wall Dive going to the back wall work, too? Or would Claw get hit by the resulting close strong from Dhalsim?)
Reversal Throw since the range is reduced on noogie.
Reversal Flipkick
Reversal Backflip.
Since the input of Backflip has been changed you can piano reversal backflip atleast on a stick by laying your fingers flat and pressing down :lp::lk:, :mp::mk:, :hp::hk: in succession. You only get 3 chances though unlike most other piano methods since there is no negative edge for backflip.
edit: Damn you OJ always answering while im typing :d
always slight correction:
I imagine you’re right OJ, especially if he freaks and jumps. Headbut will whiff at that range, and I expect the stretchy Fierce Punch will whiff too. I’ve not played enough Sims to know what’ll come out if he’s mashing at MP though…
okay, so from what I understand, after he noogies me, he will do c. Lk, then I can do scarlett terror as soon as I recover from the noogie? or after the c. LK?
The engine does not allow you to combo into throw meaning a reversal move will always hit a throw attempt if it has invulnerability or is a reversal throw.
hmm…it just seems so hard to do, and I know I’ve tried doing reversals with the flip kick…I can do reversals when I get jumped in on, but getting the timing right after block recovery or stuns…seems like xbl makes it harder with the lag, whether inherent or not. I guess keep practicing?
Hmmm, I was having an almost confusingly bad time against Boxers last night…
I think I can see the tactic for beating them - but it seemed not to work, wether it was poor timing or being too predictable. Against a good boxer, you can’t really wall dive safely because of the headbutt, sliding works well, but once it’s predictable you are going to get a headbutt again and if you let him get you in his tick throw grab and headbutt - it’s massive damage and awkward to escape out of.
I think posbly my problem, last night was down to less than perfect range - I get the impression Boxer wants to plat at about 1/2 a character width away - and Vega is more like 1 and 1/2 character widths or something…
Even when I beat Boxer I hate playing him, he seems to have a really unelegant style of play that involves spamming specials and trying to get a tic loop going. Plus I think the amount of damage he can take to what he deals seems a little over-the-top…
Boxer likes to play upclose and personal. You want to play a little out of his range and poke the crap out of him. Do not play ninja turtle! He will chip damage and headbutt the crap out of you by purposely whiffing standing rush to close up. You want to play Muhammed Ali style here, poke, counter, move around, and most importantly, do not get cornered! He can stuff all jump attempts at this point.
Remember that most of Boxer’s rush can be beaten with c.mp. His c.mp is a different story, you’ll want s.fk to deal with that one. Beat him with Vega’s superior range. Use c.mp, and close up with lp crystal flash, many times they won’t expect and eat the flash. Remember that as a charge character, he is weak against opposite wall jumps to lose his charge. If he buffalo headbutts too early while you wall dive, slice him with the tip of the claw on his recovery.
You’ll also notice that many Boxer’s will stay in crouch mode to charge their move, and will be susceptible to overhead jumping attacks if you catch him by surprise. Use a sudden j.fp combo if he is just crouching and waiting for the attack.
Thanks for that - I’ll try that next time I meet him.
I made an interesting observation the last time I played vs Gief. I think it might be possible to beat 99% of Geif players just with crouching MP and crouching HP when they jump if you time it perfectly…
I need to experiment more to be sure… But if this is the case it doesn’t seem fair! Although the timing has to be spot on I think.
I’m positive that if Zangief can get you to trade with a crouching roundhouse or get a good Lariat whiff into SPD on you, you’ll change your tune.
Try that on Haru Teyjo and let me know how that works for you. He’s ranked #1 on XBox Live…with Zangief! I’m sure he’s fought some Claw players to get there.
