I need to learn to throw in the quick focuses as well… so many things I’m trying to figure out all at once.
Yeah it gets really annoying after a while. Takes away counter mk into ex fba option as well or just a regular cr.mk into it to. I think it also whiffs on cammy but just like you said it depends on distance.
ok
BTW this isnt a reference for doing cMP to cMK… this is just cMKxx EX FBA
Ryu - hits at max range unless you have the opponent cornered or if he presses cMK and you hit his foot
Ken- same as Ryu
Honda - works
Ibuki - works
Makoto - works
Dudley - works
Seth - works
Gouken - works
Akuma - works
Gen - works
Dan - same as Ryu
Sakura - works
bah i’m done for now. maybe i’ll continue later after i take my cert exams
played vega for the first time yesterday. and came up with this not sure if its known or mentioned before.
CH, crouch mk, air reset they will land (uncrouchable), exFBA (crossup).
its 50/50 depends on the timing it would crossup if you want and hit front if you want. crossup is shoryu safe.
lol my bnb is far lk crouch lp crouch mp exFBA if i have meter. then safe jump hp/hk for 4f reversals. from stand position omg i love far lk as a poke. so i can confirm the combo as such.
Di,
Good find, but I think if you’ve landed CH, you’re probably far better off just heading into ST. Resets after CH have always been a pretty much “No no” because of the risk vs reward factor.
Also, use other BnBs, that BnB is fun for flash but doesn’t hit on quite a few of the cast.
Crossup EX.FBA is a valuable tool though Diana, although it’s difficult to get consistently (many times it’s a 1-frame opportunity). I also recommend ST after CH. After an izuna drop, perform 2 cr.MP’s and then launch an EX.FBA for a good chance to crossup taller characters. For shorter characters, do a slide up after an izuna drop, and after a tiny delay launch EX.FBA for a chance to instant crossup pretty much every character except for Adon I believe. I don’t think instant FBA/BHC crossups ever work on Adon and only Adon for some reason.
I will try your CH cr.MK setup though. If its done as fast as possible and can consistently crossup up one of the characters it might be useful enough to warrent practice, but as far as I’ve known and tested every instant crossup situation requires a bit of delay and fudging the timing to get it just right.
Adon doesn’t work because of the speed of his wake up.
Does Deejay get up faster too? He always blows up my safejumps, and I’m pretty sure his reversals aren’t 3f.
I think his reversals are 4f (at least EX Dread Kicks).
^^Adon’s wake-up speed was revised in AE. He’s supposed to have standard wake-up speed now.
They’re all 6 frames. It’s VERY peculiar XD
-edit
Wait, EX is 4f. But still, that shouldn’t be able to beat safejumps. So wadfxup? =[
Dee Jay easily drops into Vega’s safe jumps. You’re mistiming yourself if you are getting hit.
Alrighty. Online will do that, I guess. Dont think I’ve ever fought Deejay offline, oddly.
Set-up a dummy in training mode to test safe jumps instead of trying online. XBL will make the dumbest shit seem legit and the smartest shit half effective. =/
^ This. I wanted to punch a goat when I got EX upkick’d by Dee Jay online after a backthrow j.MP safejump. Went into training mode after, adamant it worked and lo and behold it did. Tried it then on a Dee Jay player at Evo…still worked.
Online isn’t a good training ground for stuff like this.
Yeah, agreed. Just wish some characters were more common offline, like Deejay. I don’t think we even have one here in NYC. Ah well.
His EX Upper is 3f. But iirc, there’s no invincibility on it… anyone can confirm this?
Example of the U1 Second-Hit Crossup
Works on the first frame after a mid-screen forward grab on all characters except:
Adon
Blanka (works if you delay by 1 frame)
Dhalsim
Hakan
Sagat (works if you delay by 1 frame)
Claw (works if you delay by 1 frame)
Instant Ex.FBA Crossups - Positioning Data
When your opponent is getting off the ground from a knockdown, you can launch an Ex.FBA that goes past them and hits their back as they get up. If you position and time this right (something hard to do), it crosses them up instantly in a way that is equally hard to defend against. Most of you know about this.
However, I’ve done some testing and even started putting together some data on ways to do it. Small variations in your position and timing can make all the difference in whether a crossup is possible in a given situation. Done right, it is possible to always give yourself a chance cross up every character.
One of the best situations to attempt an instant Ex.FBA crossup is after an Izuna Drop, because the relative character positions are always the same at mid-screen. You can use this starting point to use particular moves that always put you at a particular spacing before the crossup attempt.
You can wait right after the Izuna and then attempt the instant crossup, or you can wiff a move like cr.HK when they are still on the ground to keep your charge while moving closer by a precise amount. The choice you make in setting up your position sometimes matters in regards to whether or not an instant crossup is possible.
Each “frame” in this data represents a precise 1-frame timing after the Izuna Drop in which an instant Ex.FBA crossup might be possible. There doesn’t seem to be any move you can wiff that puts you exactly at the timing you need to launch, so it still requires waiting and timing to the exact instant you need. However, many characters share the exact same timing while others require you to launch an instant sooner or later. This data gives you a particular setup and then shows you what timings cause the attack to crossup, wiff, or get blocked. Frame A represents attacking relatively early and Frame E represents attacking relatively late. Reversals by the opponent tend to always wiff in the wrong direction since Vega is flying past their middle, even when your timing is off by a frame or two.
These are just 4 of the seemingly best setups. In the future I plan on doing this kind of analysis for Bloody High Claw instant crossups (on the way up) and option selects.
Izuna Drop, then no follow up moves before the Ex.FBA
[edit]Small characters might avoid this setup by blocking low. Such as: Yun, Yang

Setups with more than 1 Frame of opportunity:
Seth (2 Frames)
T.Hawk (2 Frames)
Zangief (2 Frames)
Izuna Drop, then cr.HK to move closer before the Ex.FBA

Setups with more than 1 Frame of opportunity:
Gouken (3 Frames)
Honda (2 Frames)
Juri (2 Frames)
Rose (2 Frames)
Rufus (2 Frames)
Sakura (2 Frames)
T. Hawk (2 Frames)
Zangief (2 Frames)
Izuna Drop, then df.HK (Cosmic Heel) to move closer before the Ex.FBA
[edit] df.HK and Ex.FBA must be back-to-back, so delay the df.HK not the Ex.FBA

Setups with more than 1 Frame of opportunity:
Abel (2 Frames)
Guile (2 Frames)
Seth (2 Frames)
T. Hawk (2 Frames)
Izuna Drop, then HK.ST (HK Scarlet Terror) to move closer before the Ex.FBA

Setups with more than 1 Frame of opportunity:
(none)
df.MK and MK.ST are worse than the setups listed above in terms of ability to set up a crossup. I have not yet tested LK.ST but suspect it is inferior to HK.ST. I also have not tested positioning moves that break your down charge such as forward-dash.
Holy grail right there ^
Just found out that Izuna droping Seth, wiff 2 cr.mk, ex fba again is a damn good way to time your cross up.
Didnt tested with gief or hawk, but it has to work.
It needs more testing, but now we have pretty much a set up that will allow to cross up EX FBA on 2/3 of the cast.
It will whiff on Yun if the bastard is blocking down though. Fuck Yun.
EDIT2: Whiffs on Yang too. God, how can a Vega player not hate the twins? heh
That’s an interesting find regarding the twins, what actually happened is that the FBA wiffs but Yun/Yang walk backwards into it or something and get hit!
I’ll have to iron out some small errors like that. The good news is that the cr.HK setup still forces a true crossup vs the twins, as well as the df.HK setup if you do it properly. However, the HK.ST requires them to block either high or low to get crossed up - it wiffs if they don’t block at all (which is fine by me, because if they aren’t blocking then just combo them, haha)
God damn Meteo, Good shit.
gonna start practicing those asap.
