Vega Basics, Set-ups, and Tactics (with Hitbox!)

Yeah, I wouldn’t believe it either because it sounds impossible…if not straight up dumb. But I’ve done it several times during matches, against different Blankas, no training dummy involved. They’re always so eager to throw out BB at us,even at full screen, but that all changes once we smash their fucking grill in with a knee. So satisfying.

Also, some other shit people might be skeptical about but actually works:

Sky High Claw, yes, sky high claw, the move everyone bitches about and lables useless beats Honda’s non ex headbutt, clean. Im talking squeaky clean. Shut’s fat boy’s headbutt down in a New York minute, seriously.

Not so useless, eh?

still useless…

cause if i know honda’s gonna headbutt… i’m not hitting him with SHC.

I’m hitting him with jHP, HPxx EX RCF, sHK or jHP, HP, cMPxx EX FBA

besides… there’s no way i’m gonna take that kinda risk for that.

and it’s been like that since vanilla. i thought it was good back then till i saw the damage output if it got blocked. i learned very very fast to stop doing that

Lol, no swaying some people. J.HP beats Headbutt??? Wow…
Yeah SHC on block is like holding a ‘rape me’ sign, but its not useless! Just highly unsafe and highly situational. That might make it useless in some people’s book, but not mine. Not in the book of a Vega fan-boy. Your puny logic and facts won’t budge me! Ahahahaha!

Nah, probably useless though. I do like beating fat boy’s headbutt with it though, because they dont expect it to beat their HB and they usually throw out a LOT less of them after.

You’d be surprised at how much it DOES beat. j.HP has always been one of the best tools against Honda. Headbutts especially.
Also lols at people who try and do wakeup shenanigans with him if you’re careful enough (I say this loosely because /someone/ is going to fuck this up and then come whining back at me about how I made them lose shrugs)

being close to honda, wakeup or no, is not something i tend to do.

btw… you’re still not trolling :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve always found Honda easier to deal with if I can close in on him and pressure him. But each to their own.

And meh, what’s the point? I want to stay part of these boards, I really do. I enjoyed my past year and a half here a lot, but some people just make me want to set fire to my hair and let you put it out with a shovel. I’d troll, but I’ve gotten to the point now that I don’t see a point in it.

i felt the same way about honda… till they started using that command grab…

now i run away.

jb.HP > Command grab. =P

jbHP < block, reaction headbutt

Naturally, but if people are spinning the stick for command grab in your links, chances are, they don’t have charge and aren’t going to react fast enough for that.#
People who are actually GOOD with Honda though, you have to be ridiculously cautious with. I like playing hit and run with really good Honda’s. Try and inflict as much as I can and then sit and react. It all depends on how they play though, can’t use the same strat for every Honda…or any character really.

Though, jb.HP is still a pretty bad option. Even if it hits, you’re still giving up ground and momentum. If you expect a command grab, why not just backdash? You get more damage off of it and it’s generally more safe (obviously, you can get OS’d, but a jumpback can be punished on reaction).
Though I don’t know, I rarely leave my confort zone with Vega. For instance, I never use jb.HP, unless I’m really familiar with the player. So, maybe I’m the one missing out. :>

Yeah, most Hondas don’t have the timing or skill to pull off a quick reaction headbutt after whiffing a command grab. I usually stay close to Honds on wake-up, just out of reach of his c-grab, works fine for me as long as my baiting and blocking game is tight.

I’ve had decent luck with the wall dive guessing game tonight. Nothing better than landing in front of an SRK after they think they’re going to punish your next wall dive, jokes on you. I love fighting shotos, but ranked is full of crappy shotos. I’d like to think I’m just putting tools in my bag but I know the reality is that I’ll probably abandon alot of these tactics as I gain experience. Execution practice never turns sour though.

Yeah but this one you’ll keep, there are lots of stuff to do with wall dives and most of them are usefull unless you fight a character who has a 1 procedure to always get out unscathed, or someone who knows more about wall dive counters than you do.

It’s gonna take alot of practice to learn when and when not to throw it out. I love using the wall dive to punish twins and juri who seem to think they have free time to build meter because I decided to sit on a charge. I’ve taken some nasty reversals on it though as well. I see a wicked trend with these characters; jump in rh > cr.rh with kens and slant dive crossups into twins mash provoking blockstrings with occasional throw mixups.

Nothing makes me crazier than losing a match to some of these guys.

juri’s cMP will stuff EVERYTHING you can do. walldives vs juri is a no no

I’ll keep that in mind, luckily the last few juri players ive beaten had no idea. I mostly have trouble dealing with Juri’s jump in overhead, i feel like i’m always either trading hits or eating one which gets comboed to the wheel kick. I just gave myself an idea to spend some time in the training room working on the spacing to punish that. It seems to be their #1 tactic on me, but I think alot of it also has to do with me holding db way too much

Anyone have a list on characters in which ex fba whiffs on them crouching after hitting cr.mk? So far I know chun and rose.

if she’s doing instant air jMPxx dive kick… there’s not much you can do against that. If you’re referring to the stomp that knocks you straight down… focus it

depends on distance but lemme check cause i need to know this as well
