Vampire Community Thread: GGPO Hitbox Overlay. Dustloop Tutorial #2 and Why You Lose To Me?

This game is ridiculously fun. I need to get a (working) stick so I can practice this game the real arcade way and prepare for tournaments. That one in May is looking tempting. Keep playing this game! It’s so so good.

EDIT: Is there a way to get practice mode in this game in Mame through cheats? I have Mame OS X if that helps at all. Thanks in advance. =]

Not a ‘real’ practice mode, but an approximation with infinite health and time, etc. I don’t use Mame OS X (I use sdlmame on Mac OS X, MAME OS X always seemed to have poor performance / is not kept up to date) but here’s what you do on sdlmame, and can probably adapt it:

First grab some cheat files - this can be done more precisely, but it’s just as well for you to go here: Pugsy’s Cheats and download the whole mess o’ cheats. Unzip that file (BUT NOT THE ZIP INSIDE IT) from that page, and put it in the appropriate spot for your version of mame (the instructions claim it should be in your user dir/Library/Application Support/Mame OS X dir). NOTE: for Mame OS X you may need to get an old style cheat.dat file (at the bottom of that cheat webpage) - I’m not sure.

Then you have to turn on cheats in your version of mame (probably in the settings or the .ini file, I dunno where Mame OS X does it - I think preferences->general->enable cheat). Inside the game, the tab menu where you set up controls, etc, should probably should show a ‘cheats’ entry - it does on )

Thanks so much! Mame OS X has been annoying me lately, so I’m just going to go ahead and try and install sdlmame. (Pretty complicated so far, but not too bad) You’ve definitely helped out, I should be able to figure everything out now.

edit: scratch that, sdlmame is the most complicated shit ever. i’ll just stick with the like 5 games i can get on mame os x. jeeeesus what a waste of time

Haha, Griffard, It’s not that bad. I’ll help you out sometime if you want. You just need to have the SDL libraries (used by many pieces of cross-platform software, indie games, etc) installed first, and it doesn’t normally have a front end. Anyways, if you ever want to try just let me know.

NEVERMIND

Here’s how to do it in Mame OS X griffard (it’s stupid) –

Go to the site like I said, download the cheat.zip file (the xml ‘current’ one), then put it in that ~/Library/Application support/etc directory…

**the key is to name the file cheat.dat.zip (WUT)
**
See also here for more details: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mameosx/forums/forum/608890/topic/3528981

Then if you have cheats on, etc, there should be a ‘cheat’ entry added to the config menu that appears when you hit tab in-game.

thanks man, i’ll do that tonight and i’m sure that will be the ticket. I appreciate all your help =]

I downloaded all the stuff I think I need for sdl last night, but at 4 am I wasn’t clever enough to piece it together.

Heya Folks, Merry Christmas!

Oouchi, the master Jedah player, was kind enough to drop this link off in the Vampire Savior Room on GGPO.

Click meh, RAWR

This is some of the footage taken from this year’s DCC 5 on 5 tournament the night before the actual Combination cup. If you want to see high-level japanese play, look no further. I can help with the translations of some of the names if someone wants them.

For those who have the PS2 Darkstalkers Collection, I recently attempted to translate what seems to be the most thorough documentation of the Secret Option dipswitches as seen at Shu’s Darkstalkers Frame Data site. The description refers to the effect when the switch is on (star is filled). They’re numbered by row, then column. Keep in mind that my Japanese isn’t perfect and that I don’t have full understanding of some of the effects, so they might not be 100% accurate; they should be in the right ballpark, though. I’ll continue to update this post as I come across more information and clarifications.

[]Jumping attacks with long active periods (jumping light punches and such) are capable of being blocked in midair then hitting again if the opponent lands while the attack is still active.

[]If Morrigan is hit during one of her crouching attacks, she goes into standing hitstun.
[
[]1-1: Arcade version credit roll.
[
]1-2: Phobos glitches: 1. If you hit a midair opponent with Confusioner just before losing by time out, the opponent will do their winpose in midair. This works even if you trade an attack with the opponent. 2. If you hit a Conusioner-affected opponent with ES Genocide Vulcan, the whole attack will hit even if the Confusioner effect runs out mid-attack. 3. Similar to the last point, ES Circuit Scrapper can’t be escaped partway through by having Confusioner effect run out.

[]1-9: Aulbath can perform a pursuit attack while the opponent is getting hit by Sea Rage.
[
]1-10: Lei-Lei can dash and perform attacks during spinning fall state (as caused by Aulbath’s Aqua Spread, Phobos’s Circuit Scrapper, and Lei-Lei’s Houtengeki).

[]2-3: Unknown.
[
]2-4: Felcia’s Please Help Me Glitch: If Felicia is hit before Lucy makes contact with the opponent, then attempts Please Help Me again, the first Lucy will regain the ability to hit the opponent, and if she does the number of hits will increase and the dust clouds won’t disappear.
[]2-5: Gallon has invincibility during the recovery of his far-range standing medium punch.
[
]2-6: Anakaris Pharaoh Magic glitches: If a successful Pharaoh Magic is interrupted, then the hits that were made up until the interruption will count as being comboed into whatever hits next. []2-7: Canceling into Sasquatch’s Big Eisbahn from his standing medium punch causes the ice to appear instantly.
[
]2-8: Unknown.
[]2-9: Glitch that causes ES projectiles to temporarily freeze in place. (This is apparently done by having an ES Projectile come into contact with the opponent at the exact instant it should be canceled out by another ES projectile that is pushing against it. The projectile will freeze in place, unable to hit, for a short time then automatically start to move again while regaining its ability to hit.)
[

[
]3-10: Once he has charged back, as long as he holds a forward direction (down-forward and up-forward count) Bishamon can perform ES Iai Giri (similar to SSF2T Honda and Chun-Li).

Much appreciated, felineki.

Thank you so much for this I’m putting this to good use by making a video series on the glitches that way people can see it. I present the first one.

People shouldn’t walk into threads not know wtf there talkin about.

Vampire Savior scene revival? I can get behind this. Love this game, even if I’m absolutely terrible at it.

Nice video, MightyMar. Looking forward to seeing more! I found a message board thread with descriptions for some of the dipswitches listed as unknown at Shu’s site, but the descriptions are pretty brief so I might have to do a bit of experimenting to find out exactly what they mean.

Sweet video, looking forward to more.

Vsav 3-11: , seems to be rolling related.

Picked up Vampire Savior last night, and so far I LOVE it. Very refreshing game, and a series I always wanted to get into, just voicing my support here as I dig through video after video.

Hey all, I got a bunch of classic footage posted up:

Is counter picking very prevalent in this game? Also, I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for what character I should play. I play Vega in pretty much any capcom game he’s in, so I’m geared toward characters who rely heavily on good footsies and annoying pokes. It’s also worth noting that my execution is ass with anything but charge characters.

A lot of characters kind of use a mix of charge and typical circular motions. The most charge-y I can think of are like Aulbath, Victor, Bulleta, Bish. But all these guys have qcf motions as well. It’s not like street fighter where characters are one or the other.

Well, it’s not as though I’m incapable of doing QCF motions, just that I’m not adept at utilizing them in any sort of combo (other than the most basic) even in SSFIV with it’s lenient inputs. Yes, my execution is ass. Regardless, I’m just wondering which character would fit my playstyle the most (read: most similar to Vega lol).
