I think it’s a player thing more so than a character thing. When they played at EVO, Gamerbee bullied the midrange with IA Jag kicks and s.HK. And when Momochi actually whiff punished something, it was only with step kick. Once Momochi switched to Evil Ryu, he got way more reward for whiff punishing with cr. MK for obvious reasons.
Supers cause HKD in 3s.
Justin missed out on so much damage because of not following up on an overhead combo.
I’m an Elena hater, but come on man. 2000 pp online warriors should not be able to execute more consistently and punish more heavily than you. And he lost to Fuudo’s “no punish” Seth.
Because Adon can shut down every one of Ken’s pokes with his HK, his pokes do more damage than Ken’s and he can punish fireballs with jaguar kicks. Elena is hard to deal with in general but since Gamerbee has been using Adon for so many years he probably feels more comfortable using him and since he has the MU advantage he has no reason not to.
On the other hand Momochi seemed like he wanted to prove a point to those that weren’t sure he deserved the Evo championship. He clearly came prepared for that matchup and he played it to perfection. Maybe Gamerbee also felt he had something to prove because he played the game very passively, which IMO hurt him more than it helped him.

Justin dropping combos made it more of an Elena match, yay healing.
I don’t even like Elena’s bullshit, but I’m smart enough to realize that Justin should’ve been in top 8 if he didn’t have shitty execution. While I don’t think he’s getting very far in capcup, I think he at least has the ability to go 2-2 and put in some work so the others don’t have to. He’s a good enough player in general to do some damage, it’s just his game/matchup knowledge and execution that are holding him back at this point. He went from barely placing top 32 at majors, to tying with Bonchan and nearly eliminating Momochi (even though he was playing like a dumbass).

Man, this event sure was hype! I feel like Daigo vs Momochi @ Stunfest and Fuudo vs Tokido @ Canada Cup were the two best demonstrations of the skill level one can achieve in this game, it’s absolutely fucking amazing
Also what the hell happened during Momochi vs Fuudo match? It’s like Momo literally threw the entire game, especially the second set and focus attack charge spam
Out of all the top players, I think Momochi is the one that shows frustration the most sometimes. On that Daigo set you can also clearly see when he gets frustrated and starts giving no fucks.
That said, these guys play each other quite a bit. My guess is he wanted to open up focus as a midrange option, but charging it is very risky because it’s a read and if you’re wrong Fuudo can punish the backdash out of it with rekkas. So I think he was trying to make him second guess that.
Nah, the dude has unlimited amounts of patience, that’s why he won EVO. His attitude in Canada Cup was inline with other recent showings of his at tournaments. I don’t know if he is sandbagging, or just having fun since his CC placement has been secured so early but he has been making some questionable choices both at the character select screen as well as during some matches.
Don’t forget that he ended up in losers bracket because he went with Guy during his 3rd match vs Tokido. Guy vs Gouki is definitely not more favorable than Ken vs Gouki and his Guy is nowhere near the level of his Ken. Besides, Momochi rarely loses to Tokido when using Ken.
In general, watching him play at Canada Cup i got the impression that the only two matches he took seriously were those vs Mago (there is no love lost between them) and vs Gamerbee (to show the world his EVO championship wasn’t a fluke).

But I dunno man. I feel he’s patient forever if the other player is playing sort of offensive or whatever, but there’s a specific playstyle that definetly gets to his nerves. In that Daigo set he got lamed by focus and cr.mk xx hadou and by the 3rd game he started doing stuff like 3 step kicks in a row.

Tiers are lame and change to much. The only 2 categories should be “can this character win a tournament yes or no”
And by that logic almost every character can do it. At the end of the day, each round starts at neutral and every character can block and tech throws and it’s player vs player, the better and more experienced player wins 9/10.
Except Honda. He just sucks.
