Point stands that being a pro at SF doesn’t warrant ridiculous sums for money matches, since the fgc is poverty gaming.

I mean they’re all just normal people, they don’t have wads of cash lying around like some sort of celebrity. I’d MM for £10 and think that’s a lot of cash, fuck someone tried to MM me for £200 once and I had to turn it down, that’s a lot of fucking money to me. Take into account a lot of the players probably just work a job and play SF as a hobby, I doubt many of them have ludicrous amounts to be putting up for MM’s unless they just took a tournament or got a bonus or some shit. I don’t know how much the EG boys make but I doubt it’s a dream lifestyle.

Evo was on espn sportscenter last night.

Yeah I think I heard somewhere that Justin works a dayjob as well.

I’m guessing most of these people have full time jobs, there are athletes who can’t even make a living with their sports, I imagine it’s even more true with gamers.

Unless you’re Daigo of course.

Yeah they definately have jobs. You see Mike Ross gootecks couch and room on their vids? Looks like their moms basement.

Your mom’s basement must be nice.

Daigo is a male nurse

Daigo used to be a male nurse, not anymore though I heard.

You just crushed emil’s wet dreams

Well Daigo always has the ability to fall back on being the face of Fighting Games, the model of MadCatz ads, and the promoter of an ongoing manga series about himself.

And a 5-6 figure salary or so.

Only because he bottled it. When someone calls you out like that when you are the current champ, you have to take it seriously IMO, money or no money. I’ve seen a few posts saying he tweeted he was hung over or some shit. If that’s the case then I’d say he’s just knew he was beaten before the matches even started. Santarou proved he was right that he was stronger than Luffy in the match which ever way people spin it.

I’m also always amazed at how EVO brings to light things that decent players already were well aware of. Most post EVO conversations, reading some of the comments I think to myself “Do people even play this game?”

Yeah louffy got blasted. There are pictures of him stumbling around drunk

didn’t know Tokido was once called Dirty Tokido. Murderface seems more fitting.

That’s fair enough, he’s in Vegas on Holiday, I’d probably do the same. Not sure if I would if I’d been called out like that with the world watching, but whatever floats his boat. Santarou went on to do better than I expected in the tourney. People say Bonchan is the best Sagat, but I’ve always said Santarou is much more dynamic in his play and uses very specific character tech a bit better. The same goes for Ryan Hart, I’ve always liked his approach. Each of them play the same character, but are each very different.

Heh, Bonchan had an unfortunate run this time. Sometimes he seems to freeze in uncomfortable situations and sometimes he’s the crazy I can comeback from anything guy.

Both against Valle and Misse, he seemed more scared than usual.

Both having a round is in reference to after the pause.

Lapchi spends more than that on breakfast. His breakfast also comes out of a bottle and involves a shot glass.

Oh, and i probably would do big money matches if i knew in my mind i was going to win.

The self confidence in Sf4 or whatever game isn’t relatable for most of us because we aren’t at that level.

The psychology of a champion is different than that of a mid level player. When the MM talk first started louffy was fresh off an Evo win where he made the best Sagat look pretty free. He accepts the match knowing he is going to win.

Maybe 10k of his own money ends up being too much for whatever reason, like real life, but you don’t make bets on chance. You make them because in your mind it’s easy money.

Some people make dumb bets that they aren’t even confident about for a variety of reasons, usually because of some sort of pride. Right after EVO, when Luffy was on a hotstreak and won pretty much everything he entered, I definitely would have went all in on him to beat Santarou. Since it’s been basically a year since then: Luffy hasn’t gotten any better at the game (perhaps even worse), Santarou has been grinding out the matchup and getting better at the game, Luffy had low confidence of performing well in the actual tournament a few days before EVO, got blown up at EVO and proceeded to drink his problems away, and then woke up hungover with no drive/confidence to win against Santarou.

Basically once the money (how much was called off, perhaps all of it?) aspect of the set went down the drain, Luffy lost interest. I’m assuming it’s because he realized he has been performing worse and worse since Capcup, and so was no longer wanted to risk such an absurd amount of money on something he very well knows he may lose. Santarou still wanted to beat him because he really wanted to show the world he could beat the worlds best Rose in such a heavily disadvantaged matchup. He did, and now everyone is making excuses for Luffy (whether they are valid or not, they are entirely his fault) even though Santarou is clearly the better player at the moment.

Smart people don’t make bets they aren’t at least 70% confident in, with 10k I have to be One hundred fucking percent sure I’m winning. He just played it smart and took the hit to his pride instead of his wallet.
