Bonchan won FV Cup so I think his place in Capcom Cup is very secure now with 252. But honestly I thought he had enough points already. Last year Chris G finished 32nd with 173 points. This year their are a lot less tournaments on the Pro Tour and plenty of gate keeping so that the same guys keep dominating top 8 and keeping lesser players out of the mix. I think anybody who wins at least one ranking event will get in Capcom Cup.
I actually like that idea though. Even at the very end of the CPT someone who has very little or no points at all can still get in by winning a ranking tournament like Defend the North. It would be kind of ice cold if the top Americans like Justin, Knuckledu, or Snake Eyez showed up to win the tournament even though they probably won’t need it by then(or even now).
The brazilian CPT premier tournament is happening over 5 days (which makes no sense), so this makes it much more difficult for international players to participate (not they historically do). You’re pretty much garanteed to get a brazilian in one of the spots.
Their was actually some controversy surrounding that event. Something about how you have to qualify to get in top 8 or something like that and it would be a week apart from the Final day making it impossible for internationals or even other South Americans to win unless they can commit a whole week to staying in Brazil. Capcom did say they were looking into it but haven’t addressed it since then.
But even then that Brazil tournament doesn’t have a pot bonus and it’s on the same weekend as SCR which does. So even if they fix the complaints about the Brazilian event a local will probably take it since internationals will probably choose to go to SCR.
Gozales really needs to work on the Sagat matchup. He’s a solid Seth player, but he lost to fucking LI Joe of all people at EVO (twice I may add), and then got swept by both Bonchan and Leslie at the tourney that Bonchan just won.
For the Brazilian thing, that does sound hella rigged so that at least one Brazilian makes it into Capcup. I guess it makes sense from a PR/Marketing standpoint, but that shit just isn’t fair for anyone else who wants to travel there. If anything, I wanna see this Keoma guy win, since I keep hearing good things about him, and good Abels are always fun to watch.
In the grand scheme of things, I guess it doesn’t really matter much unless you’re African or South American, since I’m sure ask the notable players are just going to SCR anyway. But still, that just sounds so fucked up from a competitors perspective.
Keoma and Haztlan are the two players that are international worthy and they’re not from the state BGS is being held…dunno how likely they’re to go to CPT unfortunately.
