It was funny how people were saying, Bonchan adapted (in Red Bull Kumite) and has overcome the bad matchup and Louffy is done. No, it doesn’t work that way…Bonchan had to work very hard and make amazing reads at Red Bull Kumite to pull it off, but it does not change the fact that it is a very bad matchup for Sagat. In the long run, particularly in a long set, that bad matchup is just going to be too much to deal with.
I’m pretty sure Momochi used an alternate version of Daigo’s strategy to beat Xian. But I wonder if Xian caught on that for a few games in a row Momochi was trying to get him to burn his Super in the second round so he wouldn’t have it for round 3.
If you guys ever catch the replay.
Pay close attention to the second rounds of their first few games. Once momochi knows for a fact its hard for him to come back and win the second round; Momochi starts throwing out cr.MKs where he knows they won’t hit gen but Xian will try to counter poke it.
The only thing Gen can do is cr.MP XX Hands XX Super to punish it. It gives xian the win but then Gen gets to round 3 with no meter and Ken gets meter from eating the super and presumably the Ultra.
His placing is misleading…even though he has same record and better game differential than Louffy and Poongko, he placed under them because he lost to them…I feel bad for Bonchan.
So I watched only a few sets so far but I have to say, the score of Xiaohai vs Daigo is very misleading…gameplay-wise, I actually think Xiaohai may have played better than Daigo in some of the matches. The problem is that Xiaohai dropped many combos while Daigo did not, and this resulted in Daigo winning 5-1. Many of the rounds were really closed and overall played well by Xiaohai, with exception of two perfects by Daigo.
Xiaohai’s combo execution needs improvement because he’s missing a lot of damage.
Santarou wins a free trip to France for the next Stunfest in may where he’s gonna face Luffy on that famous MM. Pops ready. His Sagat don’t impressed me much, but he seems still overconfident.
I’m guessing both guys have several backers like how we’ve seen in big Marvel MM’s. I don’t know about Santarou but I definitely don’t see Louffy putting up 10k of his very own cash. He has admitted a few times that he turned down invitations to tournaments because of his job. Throw in the fact that he’s married and that doesn’t sound like a irresponsible guy who would risk that much of his own money unless it was a given. I’m just going to assume the same of Santarou unless told otherwise.
But anyways, Santarou doesn’t have to be a better Sagat than Bonchan or Ryan Hart. He just has to be better in this one match up to win 10k. I guess he regularly bodies the best Rose players in Japan and that has made him overconfident. I still wouldn’t bet on him, but I do think he’s on to something and will do better than Bonchan or Ryan Hart has. So even if he loses I think it’ll be close, maybe 10-7 or 10-8.
