You can no longer talk about who is the best player in X game, when you start adding external factors. Talking shit, listening to buttons and providing other distractions, has little to do with the game itself.
Here’s a little something regarding what I’ve been talking about with regards to Snakeyez not being the best Gief. Since a lot of people use appeal to authority and were saying that top Japanese players were saying Snakeyez was the best Gief…no actually they aren’t:
One poster says it pretty well… “The fact is most people are completely clueless about SF, only live in their US bubble where no other countries exist, or are just bias towards American players. Snake Eyez is by far the best Gief outside of Japan but he was never the best in the world imo. Hagejin and Cantona were always better, just not as known.”
To many players, if it isn’t happening in the US, it’s like it doesn’t exist.
Speaking of Japan, Mixup Night on twitch was amazing today/yesterday.
Yeah it was but…there was no post on SRK front page. They need to look more into international tournaments as opposed to posting news about some hentai artist that is joining the Soul Calibur team.
SRK missed the Sonic Boom tournament as well.
SRK, well, most news sites of related note, are really not good at keeping up with these things anymore.

Tonpy played poor in the team tournament but he sort of redeemed himself in the singles. Still though, I don’t know how he won the Japan qualifier…the Japan qualifier had higher level players than the tournament they were qualifying for.

Kyabetsu just ocv’d an entire team 
Darui with that ocv on top tier team Shiro, Itazan, Nishikin, Kyabetsu and someone else (forget). I’m sure from this, he’ll probably get sponsored by rkappa to come to some american tourneys.
The sad thing is that Darui has been around since forever…it was saddening to read the stream chat and see so many people go “who is this crazy dhalsim, never heard of him…wow he’s better than fchamp!?” Too many people stuck in their own little bubble, unaware of anything going on outside it.
Can you really blame us? I simply remember the names i see on Twitch streams or youtube replays. Which are both western sites with mainly a western audience.
Unless someone shoves these names and vids of them playing in my face i won’t remeber them. I won’t go out of my way to a site like Niconico and look up “godlike Dhalsim player”. If i’m getting ANY information it is all second hand from twitter users or some player who dropped a name on stream. Pugera is an amazing Ibuki player and i’ve known about his name for a while, yet EVO 2014 was the first time i actually saw him play. Taiga was only known to me because i’ve seen some random online replays of him and nothing more.
How about you take the initiative here and make a dedicated thread and channel and highlighting all these asian players which obviously fly under the radar for a lot of us, unless someone already has done this.
Because Japan is so accessible to western audiences, we should really be ashamed that we can’t remember people’s names we have never seen before in our lives.
Shit like Topanga being pay to view and on a trashcan streaming service instead of Twitch without any English commentary, helps immensely as well.
