MvC3 has something Ultra doesn’t, strong characters.
Marvel is still the 2nd most played game at tournaments, not only do the US play it, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Japan, France and UK play it in a high level and care about the game too. The same argument can be made about american Ultra tournaments having a ton of Rufus, Balrog, Cammy, Yun (at this point), etc…
Marvel’s top 128 was exciting for me, not as exciting as Ultra’s top 256, but exciting nonetheless.
You don’t like Marvel, that doesn’t mean nobody does.
Yeah, but it’s like no one even tried to OS it at all, and he did it SOOOOO many times that they should’ve expected it honestly. It also doesn’t help that his rolls are -8 on block, yet still went unpunished by characters that can punish it regardless of spacing. While I haven’t tested it, I’m sure that Rose can punish most blocked rolls with far mk. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong about this, as I am too lazy to test right now.
The real question is : how many people really love watching marvel ? I’m not a marvel hater, like you see melee haters or anything but I’m seriously wondering. I’m european, I used to watch marvel at unreasonable hours 1/2 years ago, but the game is turning into something boring tourney after tourney. You see the same teams, the same stuff, the same loops and matchs are damn long most of the time. Also, you’re wrong about europe… very very very few people care about marvel, and in japan the game is barely alive too (coz you know… they have actual good games (and bad games :p) to play and a scene for each of them).
As for the strong characters, if it really was true don’t you think you’d see less vergil/zero/doom if that was true ? very few team are really worth playing at high level. This argument isn’t true, like in Kof13 : “everybody is strong in kof13 blabla”… oh really ? explain to me why there’s ex.iori, kim or karate in every single team (quit often at least 2 if not 3 in the same team) if Kof13 is full of amazing and strong character.
Yeah you see hype moment here and there, but the vast majority of the time this game is over rated.
Anyway, let’s not polute this thread with this kind of debate, sorry guys. I couldn’t watch Usf4, I just woke up so… I can’t really talk about it ^^’.
I was replying to macho saying that they werent using invul specials to snuff the ball early
Even always going for the block punish is a risk when he gets 2 bars.
But yeah, they let a lot of shit fly. It didnt even get to that second and third level of match development Im talking about. Where theres that strategy and counter strategy. It was like it was everyones first time seeing the character.
I couldn’t really learn anything aside from his neutral spacing and decision making on his approaches
I can’t remember all his matches, but it seemed to me that Nemo, aside from doing it on wakeup, when he blocks he uses the backflip later during oppenents their offense when the OS isn’t relevant anymore. Block 2 attacks, do backflip. Anyway gotta go in training to see if i can punish it on reaction with anything worthwhile.
When I see Nemo doing empty roll throw against characters who can easily punish roll on block, it makes me realize people don’t understand the move very well. It’s the same concept as vs. Blanka, if you don’t play in the range where that is an option, you can’t get gimmicked by it. Rolento’s footspeed is bad so it’s easy to control where you are when walking around, and if you see him backflip walk into lp roll range and block.
Maybe years of crapping on Blanka players has made me better at analyzing that sort of stuff, but it’s just footsies101 shit to me.
Pretty good bet Rolento is not low tier. Very good neutral game pressure, great mobility, great damage, meter build when he feels like it, great mixup game and basically ignores many forms of standard pressure.
Just learn to stand block rolls, and find an option select on his wake up and tadam, he’s bottom 10 again.
Don’t let Nemo fools you, he got away with a lot of stuff.
He’s gonna be really good at hiding characters weakness, he’s one of the very best player in Japan.
The ability to OS a characters wake up has been wrecked in this game due to delayed wake up, you don’t get free pressure anymore from a knockdown. It’s not like Nemo only does well at US majors. The guy has been doing pretty good for himself against strong opponents in Japan. Pretty good bet they know how to punish rolls and OS shit.
OS game wouldn’t be so bad if people would start developing (and more importantly: USING) anti-DWU setups.
The fact Capcom didn’t update training mode properly is fucking retarded.
Tell me, how many people would have found these simple to implement options useful:
DWU: On / Off / Random
Option to have Player 1 act like the dummy while using the record feature (E.G. Auto block, quick rise, DWU are utilized by Player 1 character while recording inputs for player 2. [This makes it so you can accurately create quick rise and DWU])
Increased record time from 10seconds to 20seconds to allow for post ultra setups.
Ability to change stage / music
Meter gaining when “Refill” is selected will only occur once the current combo ends (currently just starts refilling after you spend a bar, regardless of what is going on. Defeats the entire purpose.)
Ability to see “Super Meter gained” in the attack data section as well as damage.
Ability to see “highest stun” similar to highest damage in attack table
Option to select any one move from a list and have the dummy attempt to perform that move “On Reversal” such as “crouching MK” or “Shoryuken” and any time the dummy is in a “reversal” state (coming out of hitstun, blockstun, or knockdown) it will perform this move. Also an option to have it be “Always” or "Random"
Tech throws: On/Off/Random (Combined with the “reversal on/off/random” you can setup stuff like have tech throws always on but also have perform crLK as a reversal to train yourself to beat crouch techs.
(More difficult to implement things I’d still want)
Frame data viewer
Hitbox viewer
Instead they implemented:
Some sort of weird “State Save” option (legit useful but difficult to utilize to it’s fullest. By far IMO the most useful thing added)
Network Lag Simulation - LOL! Nobody uses this and I doubt anyone will.
Online Training mode - Kind of useful, but I’d prefer pretty much any of the stuff I listed over this, especially the “As Reversal” and Player 1 Dummy options.
Training Mode Fight Request - Pretty awesome, but just an overblown version of the arcade mode fight request. Still would prefer an overall better training mode.
The biggest problem is that DWU allows people to backdash out of shit since you can’t risk OS executing if they delayed. There may be some tech to cover more options on DWU but I can’t see how to get around the defensive mixup of DWU into backdash/ no DWU into backdash. OS executes when there is no hitstun/blockstun. If they delay and you input OS you’re fucked.
I’m sure there will be setups like this, at least against Rolento. His backdash isn’t very good, and everything else he does is either easy to react to, or punishable.
A lot of people love watching Marvel. For you it may be boring but for the people who actually play the game or enjoy watching it regularly it’s becoming great to see because at this point people don’t really get away with stupid shit, the game is getting figured out and the level of play is increasing because of it, unlike SF4 where every year or 2 years since release we get another patch and everyone spends more time figuring shit out again. Japan does care for it, yesterday everyone was tweeting about the Nemo vs Champ match, even guys that only play SF4 like Akahossy were tweeting about it.
Yeah man it’s not like Wolverine / Storm / Akuma won EVO, or like Firebrand has a strong rep, or like one of the top 3 players in the world uses Phoenix in one team and Dormammu in the other, not at all, all you see is Zero/Vergil/Doom. Having strong characters means that you get to use whoever you want in a maximized team with strong characters, not that you can pick whoever 3 and they’ll stick together with no sinergy and you’ll win EVO with them. Same in KoF 13, Iori/Karate/Kim is a strong team, but you still see a ton of players repping a ton of characters, Takuma, Hwa, Juri, Benimaru, Clark (ET and Huevo), hell, even characters that are in the bottom of the tier list like Mai or Elizabeth have reps, don’t show your ignorance, man.
I dunno if delay wake up even really matters vs Rolento. Not like you have to safe jump vs anything except his ultra. Just walk up and do simple chain OS.
Can’t argue if anyone says Rolento isn’t low tier tho. Not coming right off the win.
Everyone play Rolento. Think outside of the box. The time for “Pick a top tier” is over. It’s time for a new era. A new beginning. It’s time for “Pick a forgotten tier” excluding Dee Jay.
