it was all footsie based matches. and thats exactly how those particular match ups have worked for the past 4 versions. especially any of them vs fei. the closest it ever got to rushdown fighter mix up edition was ricky vs sako
In reality, the only 2 players who aren’t killers on that list are the first 2. I know Zicca myself and he’s the best Guile in the country, the next 2 players did get out of their pools in winners, so they’re strong either way. That road was killer.
I love SnakeEyez, he really cemented himself as the best in the world this weekend. Even then, I don’t see him taking 6 games off Bonchan any day. He did amazingly well, crazy good.
Imo now the 20-30 sec footsies battle doesn’t lead into anything but itself again, there’s no oki. And if you’re not e. ryu you have to win a lot of those.
To be fair to Bonchan( yes I’m a biased sagat player) . There’s not much Sagat can do but rush Rose down and he’s not built for that.
Taking nothing away from luffy great play but I felt it was his to lose when he made the final. Not saying Rose is too strong, just I think she’s suited to those matches. Snake eyes was so close.
And if Bonchan woulda won you wouldn’t say shit lol
Luffy won because he knew what risks to take and when, he had amazing reads and overall solid play and did it against a VARIETY of characters. Louffy didn’t beat Sagat, he beat Bonchan the player.
Well I would have, and have mentioned that match in this thread many times. I’m not sure where a full super and two ultras per round isn’t at least a “slight edge”…
This is a statement I wouldn’t normally agree with, but this time I find it true. Tonight was just Luffy’s night, and it was just one of those days where he had everything going for him. Snake Eyez was realistically the only chance anyone had at beating Luffy, but he choked hard in the final moments, which also probably boosted Luffy’s confidence making him play even better.
He had all the matchup experience in the world with another top 3 Sagat, and I’ve never seen him lose to a Fei in tournament before. He was just too on point with his mixture of styles, and had really good reads to match.
I thought that maybe Gackt would beat him, but that is only because he plays a unique style of Fei that many wouldn’t be used to.
On the other hand, this means that this years Capcom Cup got a lot more interesting now that the new EVO champ will have to go up against some of the other top players that he didn’t have to face in order to save his rep as champ. Hopefully Snake Eyez attends and places at more tournaments so he’s able to go to Capcom Cup for that runback against Luffy.
