USF4 | Stream Commentary Thread

I wouldn’t have been able to guess top 8 this year. It’s been crazy.

I was expecting Luffy being able to make top8, but it’s crazy hard to do so, you have to beat so many killers for it these days. So I probably would not have bet he would.
Snake Eyez was a pretty crazy one to predict too, because even if the player is amazing, you can never trust grapplers to go far.
Ricky is kind of surprising too. Somehow it feels like he had a pretty lucky run in comparison to some others.

Bonchan Sako Fuudo are not surprises to me. Momochi maybe a bit, but he was playing strong just before EVO.
Gakt I don’t know what to think.

Also, this is a pretty big showing for Fei Long. Mago isn’t there only because he met Luffy basically.

im not shocked at all by the fei turn out. he might not be the clear cut best character in the game, but his rigid neutral heavy design is more solid for tournaments than anyone else. basically when he loses its almost always because you need to play better at neutral. so the adjustments mid set or between rounds are more simple

i have doubts about daigo playing e.ryu. he plays him like ryu with better combo extensions off low forward. and thats it.

maybe because its still early into the character switch?

Doesn’t USFIV now automatically save the last 30 matches, i mean this way alot of matches can still be recorded afterwards right, the ones that were offstream.
Except people maybe playing casuals at those stations also…

Daigo will definitely hit the lab. Think this was a good lost for him cause its been awhile since he’s placed much below his normal standards. No 6 years in a row top 8 for him. Hopefully this result makes him come out to more tourneys like he used to(We all would want that to happen) and maybe decide to have Yun as a backup. He used to play him.

Going for Bonchan to win SF4. Dude has been playing extremely strong.

I find it funny everyone saying that Daigo should have stuck with Ryu, maybe in the short term, but Evil Ryu is better in the long run plain and simple. Two months or whenever Daigo started learning him isn’t enough time to master a character, wait until he hits training mode when Japan gets it on consoles, he’ll be much improved. Also in my honest opinion, Ryu beats his evil counterpart 6-4.

Japan already has Ultra on consoles.

not officially

2 things:

  1. If this was AE12, Daigo would have a crazyyyyy good chance to win, he was nearly unbeatable in Japan with Ryu, in end game 2012. He was on that 2012 Infiltration level and 2012/2013 Xian Gen level.

  2. I’m praying that Snake eyes doesn’t run into Bonchan Sagat or he doesn’t fight soul spark Luffy.(But then again i can picture Rose getting SPD’s in my head 3 times in a row and everyone going " ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh") Dunno. If he doesn’t congratulations to the new Evo 2014 champ Snake eyes.

There’s money matches going on http://www.twitch.tv/canadacup

Latif vs Luffy right now

No? how are they getting it then? changing the regions on their xbox or something like that?

Bonchans had a decent run character wise, something I’ve always said about sagat - if he gets a good draw he can win. Sako and momochi are the real tests. I’d fancy him to take all the others though.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the amount of time he’s been using Evil Ryu. 2 months with over 2,000 matches with a character that plays almost no differently than Ryu(and he plays it no differently than Ryu) is more than enough time. He lost because he simply lost. He got outplayed, or maybe he was unlucky(not saying that’s the case though), either way he lost. This isn’t meant to take anything away from Daigo. I would put money on him in the next Topanga league where he can better show off his Evil Ryu. But in a tournament as huge as EVO with short sets, anything can happen. We had so many top 8 guys go down earlier than expected like Rog and Infiltration. It’s too much to expect Daigo to keep it up forever, even if he stayed with Ryu.

As for the match ups, although I think Evil Ryu does better against Sim than Ryu does, it’s still a hard match up. As for Ryu, I think it’s even. Their fireballs and anti-airs are basically the same. Ryu beats Evil Ryu upclose while Evil Ryu deals more damage and has more gimmicks and mix ups to work with. It doesn’t help that that when Daigo has these opportunities, he doesn’t even use them and will instead just go for the same basic shit he does with Ryu. It’s just too bad because Evil Ryu has some more tricks up his sleeve and unlike Sako, Daigo chooses to ignore them.

yeah make a NA/euro account, download

interesting. you think thats just daigo choosing to not reach too far into the bag of tricks rather than him just not being fully adjusted?

i was thinking that eryu really isnt daigos kind of character. i think of him as more efficiency and stability over tech and tricks

Thing is , against Choi , he got beat at his own game. There’s nothing to look into, he simply got out played. That’s it.

So marvel gets simultaneous streams to show the max amount of matches possible, but SF4 didn’t. What a joke

No, I think he’s adjusted to the character. He just chooses to ignore some capabilities of the character because he wants to play a certain way. Ryu has been capable of fake cross ups for years, but I never saw Daigo use one until he faced Xian in that FT10 last year. I think the character fits Daigo just fine as he can be played that way. It would just help even more if he attempted some of these other things when he can like the fake cross ups(Evil Ryu can still use these against Ryu without a hard knockdown for example).

oh yeah. no excuses for that match. im talking about as a whole. his playing the character in the future etc

choi is legit

how successful do you think he can be playing eryu that way? does it translate to long term success? or will he fall back to being less of a threat to win tournaments and being more of a top 8-16 player with that play style

Choi has the Ryu fireball game in the business. Simply a fact. The only time Daigo can compare to Choi is in Daigo’s FT10 rematch against Infiltration.

When it comes to Ryu:
Daigo = Best at beating specific players and figuring out how to beat YOU. Also the best anti air game.
Valle = Best counter poke and frame trap game. Also the best at bullying the opponent into a pattern.
Choi = best fireball game and corner trapping.
Jyobin = best at derp.
