Have they sorted out the Matchmaking issues? Since the new year, if not before, “same skill” is not turning out people of the same skill level in rated battles in the slightest. Bear in mind I have pretty terrible points because its churning out 3.5k-4k rated players time after time, so my points have dropped down to about 200ish on Steam, and yet 19 times out of 20 I’m facing off against people who are 3.5k-4k rated and often are top 20 ranked for that character. THAT is the reason I stopped playing on Steam!
Beat them sumbiches and take their points! You don’t get any points playing ppl that don’t have any…
Kinda hard finding people that are as low on points as you are. I mean this game is couple of years old.
The system tries to find same skilled people and if it doesn’t find any you get better players.
Dunno if people would actually prefer to wait half an hour between matches or just play someone, but for me it’s the latter.
you lose just 1 point against those players. No big deal
This. Ono has already mentioned rollback netcode, so they’ll likely be using an improved version of the rollback code from SFxT and not SFIV’s variable delay netcode.
I’ve noticed a huge improvement when I play my friend overseas, albeit with some input lag but that’s normal but other than that it runs pretty smooth, on Endless at least.
It feels smoother. But lag spikes are still there.
Matchmaking where you are paired with players of equal skill only works if you have a sizeable playerpool, and i mean a REALLY sizable playerpool.
There aren’t enough players to make searching on “same skill” work unless you want to wait a long time. So in short, there isn’t anything to fix.
how do you do a client update on steam? is it a download or an auto-install??
i just followed those instructions and it worked for me
You can also run the game as a desktop window to enjoy vsync without input lag, though this obviously isn’t for everyone.
The beta changes are in the latest client update released today.
I get there needs to be the players, but previously if I selected same skill if there were no matches it would show no matches, now its bringing up 3 or 4 people (compared to full screens of people if I select any skill) and I’m getting 4k ranked players. That suggests there is a problem with the matchmaking. If it was matchmaking as close as it could, giving me a 2k player for example, then fair enough, but its going all the way to the far end of the spectrum.
I don’t mind losing, I know I need to lose a lot to get to the top etc, but 19/20 fights being 3.5-4k ranked is beyond rediculous. Luckily I’ve been able to set up my PS3 in the other room now so have just returned to that, where the matchmaking works perfectly - either shows same skill or nothing at all - in which case I either get a game or I can CHOOSE to search any skill and hope I get a good game.
Well, even on Xbox i hate the same problem where same skill basically gave me players from all over the spectrum, anyway the matchmatcking in SFIV definately leaves something to be desired.
Generally on PS3 if I choose Same Skill I’ll get someone within 500 or so points of whatever I currently am sitting at, just Steam I have issues with currently… No idea what PS4 will be like when that hits, kinda hoping it will share online with PS3 otherwise it’ll probably have quite a small online pool of players…

There’s just no people online that are the “same skill” in matchmaking at that point because the player pool is smaller. What it does is search for same skill first for a bit, then it widens it’s search the longer it goes on. You should just play those more skilled players, you’ll get better much faster. And really you should just search for “Any Skill”, the matchmaking is not overly punishing. If you lose to a player once or twice, it generally won’t match you up with them again, it won’t just keep sending you against that player, unless it’s an overwhelmingly good connection match.
As far as the new Steam netcode, I feel like it’s better than XBL. I felt like three frame punishes were impossible on XBL, and on Steam it feels they’re doable most of the time.
what do I do if input the exact code Capcom says grants access to the beta but get “invalid code” everytime? lol is this real
there’s no USF4 beta anymore… they are refering to Steam client beta and don’t bother with that… because they referrenced changes were pushed to the main client yesterday (and they don’t help USF4 problems anyway)

Not our fault you don’t live in an awesome place like Socal, but have a shitty connection or live in Kentucky, this netcode is as good as XBL for me now, not quite GFWL though, but even being like XBL is saying enough.
My PC is no longer getting an A(B now) for benchmark anymore… I don’t know what is wrong? Same PC, just been a few months since I’ve played. What are the default settings? Or how do you auto detect?
