Could be any number of things but you should post your specs. Not sure what the defaults are but you’re gonna have to lower settings until you score comfortably above 60 FPS. I would honestly say 75+ should be your minimum because you will lose some performance when you play online in some stages. When you’re trying to benchmark you should temporarily turn V-sync off to see how much higher than 60 you can get. There are lots of people running around with A rankings but I can tell that they barely passed the benchmark because their performance in some stages causes stuttering (apart from network lag). Please do not contribute to this. Lowering anti-aliasing, shadows, particles and extra effects>off will give you performance gains at not much of a visual downgrade. Models>medium or low after that. Stage>low should be your last resort. Filtering will hardly do anything for you either way.
OP should rethink the title.
I know it was pretty good for a good month(last month) but it went ass again for the last week or so. its still broke. feels horrible last couple days.
idk about 98 but don’t even bother with 2k2um cuz its pretty dead online. online code doesn’t feel bad at all but it doesn’t matter cuz no one is online. its a dead scene. everyone playing 2k2 on ggpo refused to switch over to steam 2k2um apparently cuz there’s no heads online. save your money. I only bought it for online matches. now I feel stupid cuz all I get is offline play and if that’s all I was gonna get for that i’ll play um on my jap ps2 since I’ve been had 2k2um for ps2 for years now.
I’ve been having this same issue, but since whenever the 1.04 patch came around (not sure “why” it suddenly happened, and I don’t think it directly was the 1.04 patch itself).
yeah something’s up. i just played and it was awful. more input delay than usual. i even tried windowed mode with windows 7 basic at a much lower resolution out of desperation.
I guess its better then it used to be, but still get some lag/freeze here and there, where even if I mash, nothing happens my char just stays there and then after a few moments it registers and starts doing everything I pressed a few seconds earlier.
31 March - Steam Client Beta Update - March 30
General
Fix a memory leak related to internal SteamVR changes in the previous beta client
Windows
Fixed occasional pauses/hangs in some games that use the Steamworks peer-to-peer networking features
Will try it out later to see if theres any changes
the game is still bugged + (i think)it has that extra delay that they put in to compensate for the lag, don’t know if they ever got around to reverting that change.
still freezes in training room
Unless im imagining things i believe the region filter is still messed up also. when it was on GFWL i could set my region to same when searching for matches and people from different parts of europe would still show up. Maybe more people from my region are playing so other players are just not showing up i doubt it though.
Gonna have to wait for when the update is pushed to the main client. The Valve dude mentioned there will still be issues until at least everyone is using the patch. Most people aren’t even aware of the Steam beta client let alone using it.
But yeah hearing about no more menu freezes on the Steam forums makes me very optimistic that this will be a complete fix. Another month I guess.
Tried 10 ranked matches couple of minutes ago.
1 out of 10 lagged hard.
9 out of 10 were almost perfect.
I will refrain from judging this for now, because I had a couple of days were ranked was actually playable in the past, but it would be a weird coincidence if this had not anything to do with the Steam beta patch.
It seems that if your playing with somebody who doesn’t have it while you yourself have it, its even worse then before, but with both of them having it + framerate: fixed ingame vsync off, pc vsync on, it runs pretty damn smooth in my experience.
