USF4-PC on Steam is SUPERB NOW? *GASP*

i’ll try it out later tonight but i really don’t expect much especially since this isn’t mandatory.

It works fucking amazing for me, i can now play a friend that i haven’t been able to play since GFWL. The ping color bars load as fast as XBL now, and they are probably just slightly less accurate than XBL now. Yellow bars are much, much more playable too. I played a friend in Georgia, while i’m here in California, i missed playing her. Ahhhhhh’ <3 Finally!

Going to try out the game later when more people are on. Maybe now I can stop sandbagging when it’s delay/lag.

Hehe’ I can’t wait to play again, but no one’s on right now, just gonna take a nap (it’s 4AM) then wake up to some matches. The yellow bars on the new netcode felt like green bars of the day before yesterday’s shitty netcode. Can’t believe i played me friend from the east coast on solid yellow bars.

I wonder if Skull Girls (already godlike netcode), KoF 98/02UM, and KoF 13’s netcodes are now improved too, this was a Steam P2P update after all, and not just for SF4.

it requires both players to have the beta enabled for this to go into effect, keep that in mind.

yes i know. i played some really egotistical guy for like an hour and a half. he blamed my wins on lag so i asked if he had the new Steam client update and he said he did. i played in total for like at least 2 hours. 2-3 matches were slightly slo-mo. there were some good connections as far as SF4 goes but it’s true that it’s too early to judge because i’m certain many have not yet updated.

I find it interesting that the test/fixes are on the Steam client itself and not the game.

I’m gonna jump in the too early to tell boat, but from the bit I played so far it looks promising. Out of about 10 fight requests I got in training mode, I only got one lag spike (before today I’d get a spike right before anyone joined, every time). The menu didn’t seem to lag either, but I didn’t do a whole lot of searching.

As for lag in matches, it felt pretty good on my end. A little lag here and there, but no unplayable matches (actually there was a match that dced, but maybe he didn’t have the beta thing?). I was even able to play the only guy I found from England, and I always have issues with them.

I have a few players on my friends list that I always get lag with. Gonna see if they got the beta tonight and play as many of them as I can to test this out.

From what i’ve gathered it it supposedly has to do with how steam handles P2P connections.

Anyway i tested it out and nothing is changed, for me atleast. USFIV already worked great for me, now i only hope for others it will work great also. I already had the Steam beta and checked to see version which was march 17. When browsing players there is still this very small “freeze” where you can’t browse through players anymore when searching, have to wait a second before it runs fluidly.

Playing the game itself is great as long as you stick to green bars , playing yellow bars or below you know what to expect…lag :slight_smile:

I wonder then if this’ll also help other P2P games on Steam (or if GGPO to godlike to need this).

Shit is amazzzinngggg…BUT…if you’re playing some nowhere NEAR your region then dont expect magic…lets still dwell in reality here…

I can play online now? Half the reason I dropped the game was because it was trash online.

Feels fucking good man…I can actually link some 1fs I was having issues with doing online…it’s still 75% Execution on myside but I’m now I’m about to make a better transition…

Also I can now play footsies better…I was having issues with “microstepping” because if you press forward…the game will hold that input for too long…now it feels crispier…

its not perfect but its a step in the RIGHT direction for SFV

Edit: I still need to do the ultimate test. Find those fucking LAGGY PIECE OF SHIT players I always see online and fight them :^)

I think the net code they’ll be using in SFV is from sfxt

If this beta did anything at all it won’t be a complete fix until the official Steam client updates.

Ahhh’ glad to hear it, i only play endless though. It feels great, even when searching for matches the bars show up faster and more accurate than before. Yellow and green bars are full playable for meh.

my steam client just updated to march 17th… does that mean this is live for everyone now?

I hope so. I played a guy that I usually had a laggy connection with tonight, and the connection was smooth.

I’ve been having nothing but perfect matches the past two days, if you’re right, that means Friday and Saturday are going to be a blast. (everyone on the same client + no school/work) Now that gets me thinking, i wonder how many, if any of those people i played yesterday were in the Steam Beta client like me, if not, then that’s a great sign. This game is finally playable. Please someone try KoF 02 and 98 and tell me how they feel.

I tried to ask around, and everyone that would answer me had opted for the beta client. I’m hoping the couple of bad connections yesterday were due to the other guy not having it.

SF4 is the only steam game I have, so I can’t test those other fighters for you.
