USF4-PC on Steam is SUPERB NOW? *GASP*

turn off the extra effects like “Ink” and self shadows and maybe it will run better? i can’t tell if you have the ink on or off because at the end of the benchmark it always has that effect on when stats pop up but i did notice that the characters on your screenshot are casting shadows. i have problems with this game even though AE worked perfectly fine with the highest settings. i’ll even get a good benchmark but after a while, the game starts to slow down and stutter. i thought it was an ATI problem but you have an NVidea so now i’m more confused.

Yea it’s unfortunate the benchmark previews won’t show our settings, would be more beneficial if they are reported along with the benchmark. I don’t have the issue where the performance degrades, that’s really strange for that to happen for you. For me it’s constant, it doesn’t get better or worse, it stays really bad (unless I close Firefox, and even then it’s still worse than before when I used to get on for USFIV before Steam Beta came around.)

This was the settings I used specifically for the Benchmark. On top of this, now I have to set backgrounds off to assure it won’t cause spikes when playing, along with closing everything including Firefox even if it’s just one “new tab”.

Before this whole issue happened during Steam Beta time (or whenever this news was announced), I used to had particles set to “High”, motion blur was default (I guess it was “High” on default) and I believe the shadows were set higher as well, and it played perfectly fine for the time being.

Stupid question here! When I benchmark, I want just 60 fps right? Is there any reason to have it any higher?

No, perhaps that at higher FPS it will look a bit smoother. When switching to consoles at a buddies place you might need a bit of time to adjust back.

Yeah I’ve had trouble moving to console which I don’t understand really. Doesn’t it run at 60fps on console too?

I don’t think there’s any reason to limit it to 60fps via v-sync, AFAIK the game already locks itself to 60fps during game play or something like that (like so 55frames of charging is always exactly the same amount of real time)

FWIW, I have to play with v-sync forced off in the windows control panel because if it’s on the game just feels absolutely wrong compared to the console versions. Yea, the screen tearing is bad but that’s a lot easier for me to deal with than the input delay I experience otherwise with it on.

as far as benchmarking, my main computer gets something like 299fps while my laptop hovers in the 150-200 range and the laptop experiences slowdowns during game play that make the game pretty much unplayable. so for me, anecdotally at least, more FPS over 60 on the benchmark is better even though during game play it will be locked at 60fps.

You should run a benchmark without vsync to see your true benchmark. If you’re only getting FPS in the 60-75 range I would suggest dropping some settings and trying to get at least 80+. After the switch to Steamworks the way the game works is buggy af and when you play online you tend to lose performance. If you’re not comfortably over the minimum required performance you will probably experience drops under 60. This is annoying because dropping FPS in this game lags both players (Capcom pls). An “A” ranking does not necessarily mean you’re gravy due to this.

As for v-sync it’s well known already that the in-game v-sync solution results in the game having higher input lag than the 360 version. Disabling it in-game and enabling it via your Nvidia or AMD options is ideal. Set max pre-rendered frames to 1 while you’re at it to reduce the latency as low as it can go. If you completely disable v-sync you get tearing and your input will actually be faster than on the console versions. Not ideal if you plan to play on consoles in any capacity.

anyone else pissed off with the freezes that plague the game when you play arcade/training with fight request turned on ?

yes, there’s 29 pages of all sorts of “pissed”

…I don’t understand.

I just fixed my FPS issue, and even benchmarked with firefox running (this time even with a website on, Eventhubs. Normally it would lag as soon as I even have Firefox on with just a “BLANK” tab.) So far my process of what I’ve done, I manually used CCleaner for certain things like clearing junk from Firefox, Chrome, IE, Flash, Java, Windows Explorer, etc.

Got confused to see that, did doing what I did above really helped solve the issue? It was weird to see that while having Firefox running.

I now tested this though as I was typing… and now it’s back to 48 FPS… and this is running SRK forums as I typed this portion and above.

Now that I remembered, I think I did a Java update a while back, and I’m curious if that was the start of things to happen. Probably the new Java update is incompatible with my OS (hell, it even says it’s an obsolete OS and not recommended).

Testing it with Google Chrome right now (having this forum post tab open while typing this)… and I get 76 FPS. Not bad, but not like above or worth being happy about.

Just as an FYI, that screen tearing is largely eliminated if you’re using a 120hz monitor. Obviously the game still only runs at 60, but tearing occurs when the game is updating at a rate close to or above the monitor’s refresh rate without being in sync, so a 120hz monitor lets you play 60fps games nicely with vsync off.

This thread is still alive ;-;

The netcode is "oka

They’re probably like me, seeing a new post on this thread always makes me happy, just knowing there’s other people out there who don’t want people to forget about the PC version, even though it’s a shit hole now. There’s also this slim, slim chance of them posting an announcement of a new patch on here too, like the first two times. (beta and 1.03)

I’m going to take the gamble since I don’t have a console anymore. There are enough people that play regularly and don’t seem to have issues that I assume it’s not universal…hopefully I’m one of the lucky ones.

If not, well there’s always Fightcade and KOF 98 I can use my new joystick on.

Wish me luck.

I think it is mostly universal. I don’t know a single person that doesn’t have random lag spikes several times every single day on the pc version. The most frustrating times would have to be right when you need to punish someone and all of a sudden a slide show starts.

Ranked still has frequent lag spikes, but endless mode is pretty much fine, especially for long 1v1 sets. If you get 3 good lagfree games in endless the next 20 are generally good

RED

Its probably safe to say capcom took all the pc money they could and dipped lol…

Nope. As long as I stick to Americans, Canadians, or Mexicans with at least two bars, it’s pretty much fine. I’ve probably played 125-150 matches by now and had disruptive lag in maybe 10 of them, mostly on my first few days when I didn’t know any better about picking matches.

I honestly wonder what the people complaining about it being “broken” are doing wrong. It’s not that bad, seriously.

sometimes I really wonder just how many of you really know what good netcode is.
