I use D3DOverrider for V-Sync and this since the game came for PC.
And as I said somewhere here before, I haven’t had any problems playing the game on Steam (maybe til day 2 or 3 after the transition) but then not anymore. I am pretty happy witht the game the way it is and I am not going to try to change anything on my setting… who knows what that could bring!
3rd friend I played… very laggy. No idea if the steam beta affected my performance, or if there was a USFIV patch lately that changed something to run slower on my end. Honestly, it doesn’t look like a connection problem.
PS: Using Windows XP.
EDIT: Can confirm at some point there is a performance issue from performing a benchmark test. Whatever happened lately (new USFIV patch that came after 1.04, right?), my performance just got bamboozled. I now have Rank B on the benchmark.
I noticed having Firefox open now while in causes more lag, which before it didn’t affect it at all unless flash was on. I don’t even have flash on firefox now and it affects it more. Even without it, it just skips and spikes like crazy. This is just absolutely terrible. I’m going to try KOFXIII and see if it’s my computer just to make sure.
More Edits: Tried KOFXIII. Plays like a charm compared to the messy performance that is the current USFIV patch. Can anyone tell me when did this new patch came? It wasn’t like this I believe when I tried 1.04 patch out, had to be sometime after.
SO…Like many others, I too have been having connection issues with STEAM. Although my connection issues were never as severe as others, my game would periodically suffer with lag issues.
Until I paid attention to a message that popped up during STEAMS start up, giving me a warning that STEAM was running in Windows Compatibility mode. And that running steam in Windows compatibility mode could cause problems with certain games. The warning provided me a link on how to disable compatibility mode and after doing so, I must say…my connection issues have almost disappeared. I was even able to play a couple yellow bar games with no lag. Prior to disabling the mode, any yellow bar game was unplayable. I suggest everyone that may not know about this issue at least try it out. Maybe the answer is as simple as that.

There was no patch after 1.04, people are talking about the Steam Beta Update, must be in your head.
well something worked but it wasn’t vsync. first, even if vsync is on in game it really isn’t. you have to go to the .ini folder and manually turn it on. after that i noticed my timing was a little off. i was missing a lot of links in practice mode that were quite easy. so next i disabled vsync in game and then turned it on in AMD Catalyst. now i tried benchmarking and it was much closer to 60fps, somewhere around 70-80. i might have messed with something else in Catalyst but i can’t remember what. stranger yet is that it’s disabled in Catalyst now even though i hit “apply”!?
next, i tried only endless with a 2 man lobby. played with someone with 1 bar and although there was a minute amount of lag, it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than before. we played for over an hour and it was actually pretty good.
just like that video you posted, the constant pinging of your lobby causes the game to lag big time and on top of that, it seems that if the game is running too fast on one pc and just right on the other, there will be issues syncing up.
thanks again for linking that video Rayartz. the game isn’t perfect but plays much better and consistent.
Hey glad to help man! I’ll have to looking to the one thing you mentioned
I too run an AMD video card it’s the R9 270x. at least to experiment and see if anything improves further.
I had some great matches last night aside from trying to learn a few new characters and knocking rust of my main duo it was fun
certainly not in my prime anymore, but that’s not steams fault, haha
Yea, maybe? Guess it was just the beta version. It’s not literally in my head if my post specifically asked above my EDIT post if there even was an update after 1.04. I asked specifically if one came up by chance since a friend said USFIV updated sometime when the steam beta update was out. Thanks for confirming me no update happened to USFIV. Granted, I shouldn’t just jump to concluding that a patch to USFIV was the ONLY way to affect the game’s performance.
It’s still odd though why, even after few days playing 1.04 patch, that once the beta announcement released that my performance of USFIV became slower. KOFXIII literally plays the same to me (if I had some stuff running in the background, very minimal lag would show up during special effects from EX or HD, otherwise 100% good. It was always like this). USFIV went from 95% good to at some point 65% good.
Now, I did updated my graphics card driver, and it improved a bit slightly thankfully… but I still get random spikes to occur. Especially on a stage like the Skyscraper stage it’s just hell.
a lot of placebo in this thread… hopefully the next year will bring more quality ports (KOF98UM is a decent start) so we can minimize the time dealing with USF4
placebo, placebo, placebo, cause i can’t think for myself right? It actually does run better after putting my server ping to 250 and opting into the Steam beta update, so fuck you, i’m sorry you aren’t experiencing the same results. Lots of narcissism in this thread, weird.
The only thing I found to definitely help was turning off RenderingThread, but that was back in AE. Ultra came out and has been crap throughout.

You’re not even following or understanding my problem. My problem categorizes on “Computer Performance”… not “Networking”.
You’re pretty much talking about how playing online improved overall as a whole, nothing wrong with it since almost everyone says it’s going well. My problem from whatever happened around Steam Beta update simply isn’t relating to the netcode.

Tried turning it off, it still skips like crazy offline. Might be better for me to find PC stage mods with no models or to get better parts for my computer and different OS.

this is a wide spread issue (the very basis of this thread)… how about that narcissism now Mr. “It works for me”?
Endless 2 players lobbies are ok btw. still not the same quality of connections like on GFWL, but at worst you get some input delay rather than fullblown random freezes.
hey guys I’m buying a new PC soon and I was wondering if the PC version for USFIV is still ass?

It is as good on PC for me now as it is on XBL. However, how good your PC is, as long as it isn’t truly shit, doesn’t seem to show any correlation with how well USFIV will perform. Offline should be fine if you have a decent PC, online…is hit and miss especially with Americans. Europeans in general seem to have little problems online.
I mean online netplay, my bad. The whole fiasco about GFWL disappearing and people facing lots of issues? Is that still prevalent?

yes
Did a series of performance test for SFIV, SSFIVAE and USFIV with only one other application running (Firefox, on a “New Tab”, in other words nothing serious).
Vanilla SFIV benchmark: This was at the time that I had to put some settings lower, but even this is fine for me compared to the plane crash performance of USFIV.
Spoiler
SSFIVAE: Can’t show benchmark and get proper access to the PC version. I do remember that this was the best version as far as performance goes, it was a big improvement from Vanilla SFIV as far as performance compatibilities go.
In other means of playing it on PC (arcade), I was able to play it flawlessly. The worst part is that this is running on settings higher than what I usually run. I always had shadows low, and the resolution in this is higher. It plays absolutely fine…
Complete opposite of how USFIV performs for me, as expected. I am unable to give proof, but if anyone knows a way for SSFIV AE benchmark or for a fix to run SSFIV.exe without “Steam must be running to play this game” window getting in the way, would be awesome!
and, lastly…
USFIV: Pictures show more than words in expressing salt.
I still need to see how to run USFIV without Steam being involved and see how that goes, but don’t know how to get around the “Steam must be running to play this game” issue. I probably also should test SSFIV AE too but that’s long gone so now I need other means to benchmark SSFIV AE for proof. I never had a C ranked benchmark before until either the 1.04 patch or Steam Beta patch came through.
Wow…
You are seriously jaded if you think your computer should rank more than a C. You have an 6 year old video card. An even OLDER operating system, and a 7 yr old CPU. What kind of score did you honestly expect?
Bruuh…It’s time you upgraded.

Something that ranks better and was actually playable prior to whatever happened during Beta Steam release (I’m not serious for enhanced features to make graphics better such as AA or Texture Filters)? This game is really old, and unless there was a huge overhaul with the graphics, it should be able to fit the requirements since the beginning of SFIV from their Taito Type X2 arcade release minus other quirks.
Although, you are right :|… I do need to upgrade my trash computer lol, especially to get the computer ready for Street Fighter V or any other fighting game that uses a lot of resources. It’s the simple answer to solve this issue, but at this point I’m more concerned how did this happen in the first place.
Why did USFIV went from going decent to junk status sometime as a whole? Did USFIV went for a graphics overhaul (afaik it looks the same, and USFIV on-release was fine so I don’t think this is the answer)? Did any Steam update made Windows XP OS more incompatible? Did my GPU gained compatibility issues overtime from updates via Steam?

Wow…

the CPU is perfectly fine. the GPU is a bit weaker especially for that resolution.
i’m running the game on a E7400 Core2Duo 2.8GHz (from 2008) with GeForce GTX 660, all high details @ 1280x720. i always get “A” because the game is not CPU intensive.
i also get “A” @ 1920x1080, but i want to make sure there’s some extra resources for background process… also i prefer to play in a 1280x720 window rather than fullscreen (i sit close to the computer and my monitor is 27").
