Players are currently locked by region via-steam. It’s something Capcom has to actually override as it’s the default setting in steam integrated multiplayer for some reason.
This means if you live say in Mexico the game will only look for Mexicans unless you change your download region in steam to another country. You wont find any USA players even though there is a pretty good chance you’d have a solid connection to texas or california’s FGC depending on how far south you are in mexico.
Likewise some places don’t even have a region and are screwed. Like Puerto Rico doesn’t come up as USA even though it IS part of the US. It comes up unknown.
I just deleted AE and downloaded the game again (6.5 gigs), i have a folder on my desktop screen that is nothing but music mods. It has no game play mods in it, costume mods, or anything super gaming changing. Does this mean i can’t use my custom music mods on stage music i hate anymore? (stern, dhalsims, snow rail yard, ect)
I was gonna wait until Ultra comes out then put the mods on a bit later, cause i wanted to experience Ultra the way it was meant to be, then have an awesome mixture of Ultra with delicious music mods…

I THINK music mods still work (ask @hunterk he’d know) and some skins work but others are broken. I’m not sure. Gameplay mods are officially dead until someone finds a work around IF it’s even possible.

For example, I was having a really nice play with people who are NOT from my country. And it was almost impossible to play with those who are from my country.
i just tried stage music mod and still work, not sure about the other part ( menu / announcer … ) but i suppose that they still work too , i dont now if they intentionally removed the ability to mod the other part of the game, might be because of steamwork
as for the lag its very inconsistent, for example i played with a friend and we got a perfect experience, on GFWL he couldnt even join my lobby, however now am having laggy games with people from UK for example, wich played totally fine on GFWl
also we should create an SRK groupe and make it private if possible, that should be fun …i hope we will not be left with this broken version , otherwise am totally not upgrading to ULTRA

Edit: Also my test was V-Sync on + Fixed…it was horrible with anything but green bar
So i tried Variable + V-Sync off and that’s what we played in…it seems if you find a LEGIT green bar player your game settings don’t really matter…but if you’re playing yellow bar and below its better to play Fixed + Sync Off…still doing some testing…under a random alias of course lel
Gameplay modding removal was intentional as hell. There is 3 new files specifically dedicated to locking out people from playing with unverified .bac/.bcm files.
“signature” (no file type, contains the hash keys and encrypted keys for all .bac/.bcm files which are compared to what the game is loading when loading a stage and if this file is not present the game crashes on startup.)
“cryptopp.dll” (part of a cryptographic service: www.cryptopp.com)
“sdkencryptedappticket.dll” (part of cryptopp)
NO other program I have from steam has any of these files. NONE of them appear. I’ve got 109 programs installed from steam atm and only 1 instance of cryptopp.dll is on my computer and it’s in the sf4 main folder.
Graphical mods breaking might have been unintentional simply due to changes in where the files are located and such. However this gameplay modding lockout was 100% intended.
So can we confirm Capcom stole the Decapre as a playable char idea from modders yet? Being the fact you know…they with great detail changed files they know we mingle with
I have a custom PCB and sometimes I have to close SF4 unplug replug my stick and start SF4 again and it works…sounds obvious but give it a try…also like I said in the OP…do NOT Alt+Enter this game if you’re using Windows 8…W8 has this stupid ass feature that automatically minimizes a window if you click out of it…and for some stupid reason it conflicts with fightsticks…only ALT-TAB
Steam does this so that it knows which files it has to re-download in case of file corruption. That don’t NEED to do it, but it’s not uncommon, especially seeing that Ultra is around the corner and noone knows if it uses the same BAC/BCM files, or if they get put into a different folder.
Completely untrue this has nothing to do with Steam’s verification system. Steam verifies all of your files themselves compared to the latest downloadable version on their servers when you do a verify game cache. Otherwise it never checks and doesn’t require encrypting files whatsoever.
Not only that but it would have every file under a signature not just the .bac/.bcm files if that was true.
Also I can confirm that they do indeed use .bac/.bcm files and they do put them in a new folder. There are references to the new characters within the signature file’s hex code which I spotted.
As you can see that is a reference to PSN aka Poison. There is also RLN (Rolento) DCP (Decapre) HUG (Hugo) and ELN (Elena).
ONLY the .bcm/.bac files are referenced in the signature file.
For those who want to keep the GFWL version but don’t want to have 2 full versions on your machine, you can do this:
Rename the exe of the Steam version (ssfiv.exe.steam or whatever)
Copy highlighted files and folders from the GFWL version to SteamApps\Common\Super Street Fighter IV - Arcade Edition
Now you’ll have both versions. You can create batch file or to rename the GFWL exe when you want to use it. You can delete the original GFWL version, but don’t UNINSTALL it!
The GFWL version will still have some references to the Steam version (eg. “Steam Store”, but it doesn’t work). I tested the rest of the game and single/multiplayer (tested ranked match) works fine.
Another option is to use symlinks, but if you know what they are then you probably already know how to use them for this purpose so I won’t go into that.
