Agreed. As a matter of fact, I’m really getting sick and tired of hearing:
“Oh! The game is too laggy!”
“Oh! I can’t connect to anyone!”
“Oh! The beta is a piece of trash!”
“Oh! I want a refund!”
“Oh! BLAH BLAH BLAH!”
ENOUGH ALREADY! That’s all I’ve heard for the last 2 weeks, and I’m sick of it. No matter how much everyone is going to complain, it isn’t going to make Capcom move any faster to get this fixed. I’m sure they’re working on it. So, I’m going to play online anyway, regardless of the lag. And when then lag becomes too much, I go offline, look at my matches and train.
It’s just a thread for venting. I was getting really good performance when the beta started, now ranked and endless have both deteriorated into lagging literally every other second.
I’ve been keeping it to endless 2-man lobbies with local buddies, so I don’t have to worry about desync bs, but I don’t like how USF4 doesn’t play nicely with the Steam in-game overlay. Once or twice it slowed down to 30 fps. Shutting off the overlay brought things back to normal.
I also learned how shit the Raptr app is with auto-optimization. Everything got maxed the fuck out, and I had a nice 30 fps surprise the first match I played today. Oops.
i used the Raptr thing and set it on performance rather than quality and it helped a little. ATI cards can be finicky so even putting some higher end options helps sometimes. i’m definitely going with Nvidia next time because i’m so sick of this crap.
I doubt that this is ever going to be resolved. It’s pretty sad because Capcom doesn’t seem to understand that if there’s one thing PC players can’t stand it’s flawed performance. They can deal with shitty content by modding it or creating their own crossgames. But shit performance that makesit impossible for the gameplay to be enjoyable? 95% will just move on and never look back. For good reason.
Capcom, and asian developers in general, simply aren’t capable of releasing properly coded products it seems. They should just stay the fuck away from ports. But then again, releasing a shit game still makes you money so they will probably never change.
Capcom did release some really good ports, though some of them were QLOC. The previous versions of SF4, RE5 (aside from GFWL), DMC4 and DmC in particular are fantastic ports. RE6 was when I noticed it starting to go downhill, though they did release some fixes for that eventually. Platinum’s first PC port (Revengeance) was also pretty good. Dark Souls II has some issues, but the PC version runs much better and looks much nicer than the console versions, and is a big improvement compared to the first game. It’s not an issue with Japanese developers’ coding abilities, it’s a lack of understanding PC games and the work that needs to go into a PC version of a game to get it to function properly. And Capcom, being both clueless and now nearly bankrupt, is doing particularly poorly at that.
I dont really get why you bring up DS2 which wasnt only a horrible port, but also was a gigantic blunder in terms of graphics and atmosphere. No reason to not mention the failure that was DS, or most ArcSys ports. Most of them are equally incompetent and the PC playerbase doesnt really care if they dont know better.
Capcom doesnt seem to understand it either. They treat PC players like second class citizens but then are surprised when their products arent successful. Its not surprising that this pile of shit is on the verge of bankruptcy. I keep hearing things like “but they hosted a beta for PC they care” while completely ignoring that this beta was released 3 weeks ago and shit happened since then. They are basically saying “well we tried, r-right?”, pretending that their effort matters.
What I ask myself is whether they
a) actually cared but couldnt be bothered to continue testing
b) are too incompetent to fix the issues
c) or used the beta to show support while never intending to fix anything
Would be interesting to know. After all, a lot of people wont touch their products anymore anyway.
Yeah, Dark Souls II was not a horrible port, and it was made by a different team, so different atmosphere. I don’t like that it wasn’t the sequel we could have gotten, and that the “real” sequel is going to be PS4-exclusive, but the incessant bitching about that game is so old. What is even wrong with the graphics? First game had gross textures and the ground just missing in spots, and people still whine about Dark Souls II graphics? I’m bringing it up to show how big of a difference extra attention makes, not that it’s an exceptionally good port. It’s not that Japanese developers are lacking the ability to make good PC ports, but they seem to underestimate the work required to make a good port. Capcom, however, has no excuse other than their incompetence.
If you cant see whats wrong with the graphics you should look at how the game looked when it was advertised.
Besides, using a failure of a port to justify a blunder doesnt work. Just because one game has less flaws than another that doesnt mean that its a good product. A product that is less shit is still shit.
PC Players are spoiled brats because they’re a master race. Think of the PSN play… Never mind, PSN players suck. Shitty performance issues aren’t just a PC thing bro.
So what? They are spoiled because other companies deliver. You cant ask people to be fine with a mediocre product when they are used to flawless ones (in terms of playability and netcode). I dont get why expecting a product to work as intended is a bad thing. Sad that there are people who are under the impression that this shouldnt be the case. You as well try to justify failure by bringing up failure. PSN being shit doesnt justify that the PC version needs to be shit.
Capcom doesnt release games to make friends. They do so to make money. And when a product is this flawed they wont make any in the future. I doubt that their reputation will recover from this mess (and seriously hope that it wont either). I brought a bunch of people into USFIV when it was released, finally introducing them to the genre. Guess what games these people will never touch again?
Oh lord, people still complain about the difference between pre-release graphics and the released graphics? That because the game isn’t constantly shrouded in shadow that requires you to carry a torch 80% of the time, they screwed us over and the port is “a failure?” It was lighting tricks. They didn’t go through the game and just deliberately make everything worse. I know they changed a lot of the lighting and it’s too much for some people who expected the game to look like that (never expect a game to look just like pre-release media, ever). But talking about it like it’s some disaster, a “failure of a port,” for a game that performs completely fine on a variety of systems, is ridiculous.
And anyway, who’s even arguing that Ultra is an acceptable port?
Seriously doubt this will do much to Capcom and their reputation even if they completely dropped the beta patch their working on. The majority of the game’s audience is on XBL where the netcode is strongest and most stable and despite how the SF4 series has updated Capcom’s netcode has been improving between each release where SFxT had amazing netcode on console and was only hampered on PC by a messed up port and the game’s scene dying out extremely fast for other reasons.
Capcom’s problem with USF4 is they haven’t wanted to invest money in a shrinking market that is SF4’s audience for repairing features that aren’t really going to boost sales. Pre-Ultra, almost no one was clamouring for better netcode but instead for new characters and buffs for their mains and thats what they got because that’s people said they were going to buy. I think the shitty online is more the FGC’s fault than it is Capcom’s because everyone pretty much got what they wanted.
You cant be serious. It shouldnt even have to be mentioned that people expect an enjoyable online experience.
Besides, why does Capcom suddenly start to host the “Capcom Pro Tour”, spending more money on tournaments than ever before if they arent interested in keeping the franchise alive? If this is what “not wanting to invest money” looks like I would be love to what them actually supporting it is.
I cant believe that there seriously are people who defend they turd of a product. This comes close to stockholm syndrome.
