PC players, consider turning off UPnP in your router settings. For the past hour all but 2 of my matches have been Xbox-quality with no freezing issues whatsoever. Beforehand, almost all matches would have at least 1 freeze.
I’d like to know if this is simple coincidence or if it’s actually helpful in stopping the flood of UDP connections that apparently causes these online headaches. Be sure to forward the standard steam ports though.
until Capcom alleviates the problems, better not fuck up your settings hoping for a fix. if the game worked well on GFWL, no need to mess with router settings. that’s a waste of time and a potential future headache when proper fixes are in place.
just wait play in Endless lobbies for now, private even.
UPnP works by poking holes in your firewall to allow communication between different computers. If the current problems are caused by a saturation of connections via UDP that take an age to close, then limiting those connections seems pretty sensible. UPnP shouldn’t be on anyway, you should be opening ports yourself.
The game was completely unplayable for almost every single match I tried in Ranked or Endless before toggling it off, I’m just curious if it’s sheer coincidence or not. Apart from 2 or 3 matches, every single match today has been perfectly fine, standard input-based netcode notwithstanding. I have 360 to fall back on regardless.
Yesterday I had silky smooth connections like offline. But I mostly play endless.
I never trust the ping bars and go for country flags as an indicator.
One guy was lagging at first but after we played 2 matchs his lagged cleared up
and we had very good games for an hour.
For me and my location:
The Good: UK, Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France
The bad: Italy, Turkey, Spain.
The Ugly: Russia
Nice idea this one. I’ll try to give it a go too even if i didn’t play a lot of matches.
The Good: Pretty much all Europe except…
The “So-So” Zone: Spain and Portugal, rarely Russia
The Bad: China, Korea and Japan
The Ugly: America (the whole continent, not just USA or South America).
P.S.: I know i’m beating a dead (and probably rotting by now) horse, but… Capcom. Buy the GGPO License and shove it up in the next SF. It will never happen, i know. But GGPO is really, really awesome. Pretty much perfect.
Does Vsync On from GPU control panel affect online? I recently experimented with it and haven’t had so much lag before. So many frame skipping even on Endless.
I’m not talking about Capom buying GGPO from Ponder. I’m talking about getting the license to use it in a new SF game, like they did with SF III 3rd Strike OE.
@Around20Pandas Thanks for the UPnP Tricks. Now the game works like a charm. Some slight lag popping up randomly, but overall, silk smooth matches even with red bars.
it dosnt, Vsync affect the game overall, if Vsync add 2 frame of input lag and online add 3, thats 5 frames of input lag in total, but Vsync dosnt get " worse " online, the input lag it introduce is static , i personally turn it off when i go online and turn it on offline, but you can get used to it even online, just like xbox players are used to it, since they dont have the option to turn it off
I’m talking about using Vsync from GPU control panel. In my case, nVidia control panel since I have an nVidia card. I do know the Vsync from the game causes lag but heard from many that if I turn it on from my GPU control panel, it will get rid of screen tearing without the additional input lag.
On the one hand, I’m kinda upset that the game doesn’t like me on PC because that’s where I’ve got all the costume. On the other, I got 3rd Strike for $4 last week so I’m not even mad.
