See, Tan completely avoided footsies altogether in that match. The only poke he really used was a fireball.
Because Rose has to resort to normals for anti air, he made her commit to a poke (or made a read on her trying to poke) then he jumped in, exactly like I said in my previous post.
I really think Ken loses the ground game to Rose BIG TIME so Ken really isn’t gonna get the knockdowns that he needs (at which point I think the match is in our favour) that way.
Just my personal opinion though. I guess the most reliable way to beat her would be to stand just outside her longest low poke and whiff punish, but man, I find it hard against her…
I generally don’t like testing normals (because I’m so lazy) but Rose is also a pain in the ass to fight to here we go!
I tested some normals for Rose and heres what I came up with and heres a format I’m gonna use:
Move (1): St. HK (she spins on her arm and kicks you)
Range (2): Hits a bit outside kens cr. mk range
Whiff punisher (3): Step kick
(1): Cr. HK (her sweep)
(2): Hits a bit outside cr. mk
(3): St. HK, step forward a bit and sweep, Step kick
(1): Forward + HK (she steps forward and hits you with the heel of her back leg)
(2): Hits a bit under step kick range
(3): Sweep, St. HK, Step kick
(1): St. HP (she throws her scarf at you)
(2): Hits a bit outside cr. mk range
(3): Sweep, St. HK, Step kick
Her cr. MK is extremely fast, possible to whiff punish with sweep but you gotta be lightning reactions so I don’t think its worth it.
Her slide hits around step kick distance, so I usually hover around there if they are abusing that shit, and you can intercept it with low forward into fireball. You can sweep it before it hits you or whiffs but you gotta be on point.
A good thing to note is that all of her good normals are whiff punishable with step kick, so for footsies I think step kick is the key here. Let me know if I missed anything else.
Just applying what trevv’s done to a match-up you’re having trouble with the ground game, you make your opponent wary to push buttons and gives you the initiative to take the offensive. Sure it’s a lot of effort and doesn’t do much damage but it does get people to play more cautiously and weaker players to lose confidence. Once they’re hesitant, get in there and take them for a ride!
Anybody got advice for yun and yang, they have so many options and their walkspeed is so fast its hard to keep them out and playing footsies with them is like I guess right and they take a little damage and they hit me and iam combod and then when I do get a knockdown their dps autocorrect to damn easy. This shit is frustrating, they still feel like the best chars in the game.
there are better than Ken…but yeah, generally there are on the weakside, so you have one or two chances to get comboed from them and your health shouldn’t be completed depleted, so don’t get nervous, just play confident. I’m not sure you really want to play a lot of ground game footsies with them though, you certainly want to get the KD on twins and bait there stupid axe kick out and mix-up with throws/bnb combos. I play them like Viper, safe pokes, close distance, then get the KD and wreck house.
That’s essentially how we should play rose, but Ken just walks to damn slow…I’m actually done with playing him ranked for a while until I up my game. Gonna get a pad soon, but I really think I need a character with stronger options and less dedication and strict timing to pull off. Looking into Akuma now, as Ryu is kinda one-dimentional and honestly, requires more situational combos than Ken, he has no tricky mix-up, just ultra setups, zoning, footsie game, and you have to run away from combo heavy characters when you play RYu. Ken can match everyone with mix-up and HITS like A TRUCK on PUNISH. I love em…just tired of working harder online with him, have to find a new main online, and take out Ken at the arcades and friends house where you can really bring out his game.
I’m not sure if its considered footsies, but I usually step kick the hell out of the twins. Make them scared of the step kick mixups (throw, dp fadc, backdash) The only time I can whiff punish the twins is if I manage to bait out a sweep or St. HP. Poke em lots, get ready to buffer srk in case of them trying to focus your pokes, watch out for frustration dive kicks. If you annoy them lots they usually jump or dive kick, which is free AA into mixups.
For mixups on wakeup, if they auto correct on wakeup, stick with crossup LK or tatsu. Cross up LK gets you close and stuffs auto corrects most of the time, and its pretty ambiguous. Cross up tatsu usually makes them fly away. Run this LK/tatsu mixup enough times to condition them not to auto correct, then run unblockables, empty jumps etc. I OS Ex tatsu to catch Yang’s ex dash out, and I don’t usually OS anything for yun because I haven’t experimented with it yet (lol).
You can also use that new mixup thats safe for 4 frame reversals (throw, FTK, neutral jump MP/MK).
Meaty LK into OS sweep whiffs on Yang, not sure if it works on yun. Stick with OS step kick or tatsu for them.
The hakan match up has gotten ridiculous. That fucking slide. A sliding trip when he oiled up. He can also attack out of his focus. I jump in the air and I get attack that’s puts me in a juggle state. His U2 stop me from when I’m got a block string cause he can mash command grab or U2. He scary.
Yessir! It should work, if it doesn’t its the spacing, you just want to make sure it hits crossup and not front. The times I’ve gotten it to work, I’ve either hit him crossup, then landed behind him OR crossup lk whiffs and yun gets a clean upkick get away.
Struggling with grapplers as a few of you have mentioned recently here. Gief is pure grief whereas THawk does the dives just out of range then command grabs me.
So frustrating getting grabbed when you’ve done nothing wrong. Even more so when it appears to be a Kara command throw.
Zangief fights are footsies heavy. If you can’t whiff punish and anti air 100% you are done.
T hawk’s whiffed dive is punishable with cr. LK/cr. LP into combo, or low forward into hadoken. His horizontal dives can be stuffed on reaction with low forward into hadoken. OS U1 or U2, or srk catches T hawk’s backdash.

Treat it like a normal that he whiffed, and if he keeps doing it nietral jump when u realize ur not in blockstun if he’s close enough and u did it in time it should be free nj.rh xx u2, you could also press buttons when u see it come out and if he whiffs it your move will come out but if he puts u in blockstun then nothing will come out and u should be able to punish it with srk or jab.
I want to say the Ryu match up went from 4-6 in Super to 6-4 in AE and stayed that way. Ken has excellent frame traps and combos that can carry opponents to the corner. Ryu still can’t get out of the corner for free but Ken can. So for this match up cornering Ryu is in your favor even if he throws you into the corner. He will stop trying to zone you when you have a full Ultra 2.
been having truble with elf as of late i have some vids that a homie is uploading with me playing against iperu another homie of mine but help is needed badddd
