USF4 Ken Improvement Thread (+EVO Result)

I’d like his damage to be distributed more evenly throughout the ultra instead of front-loading on the begining, so that a partial ultra is still a formidable weapon

honestly I basically like ken as is, but it doesn’t seem fair that ryu’s ultra is so much easier to land and always hits for max

as for some of the other suggestions…

too many chars have airthrows already – ken doesn’t need one

also, I don’t like the suggestions for improving ken’s fireball… he’s got a weak fireballing game, that’s one of the things that seperates him from ryu… if anything, his srks should be improved

I actually think that Ken is actually pretty good where he is right now.
He doesn’t need alot, but mainly the biggest thing he needs is damage on that “fake” ultra, which many of you mentioned earlier.

Ken already has overly decent zoning tools, plus he has a strong set of mixup tools.
Not to mention he has the best kara-grab in the game.

Shoto normals, SRK, a decent fireball, great mixup tools… there really isn’t much to ask for… other than a better way to get more damage out of your ultra meter.

That is where you lost me. The only thing worst than his hado is his EX hado.

His fireball is better than a lot of other character’s fireballs… it’s usable, to some extent.
If they were going to buff someone’s fireball, it wouldn’t be practical/logical to buff his.

yes i did say that in response to you suggesting that a low tier character would have a tool that is allready lackluster (except against scrubs) and make it worse so scrubs would lose to it less. your complaining because you fail at punishing fierce shoryuken’s, which has a whopping 30 frames of recovery. if you can’t punish that you can’t punish much of anything.

anyways this is my last response to you, if you ever get a clue come back another time and discuss game mechanics.

i hate when ppl try an complain about one shoto character is worse then the other. they all have there weakness an strenghts. its bad enough that they have like 5 characters with same costume an move but u want the stats to be the same to if they do that then wats the point of there being so many characters. if u think ryu stats are so much better then ken stop pickin ken an pick ryu that way u can stop complaining about his flaws to ryu’s.

  1. he dont need to walk faster or dash faster he moves slightly slower then ryu.

  2. you dont know what your talkin about when it comes to the sweeps cuz he has the fastest sweep outta all the shoto characters an the most reach at that.

  3. his ultra is strong enough an you must be a noob if the only way you can catch someone in it is by focus attackin them first or by tryin to catch someone in the air with it, learn to combo into it, thats why combos were put in this game for.

  4. if anything should be change about him it should be his shoryuken, the damage need to be cut in half or 1/3 taken off cuz its one of the most over powered moves in the game, an i would say make his fireball faster but then that would make him to good then wat he is now.

im kinda glad his fireball aint that past cuz now ppl can really spam with him they have to rush you down but its corny when ppl spam shoryuken’s.

This is right, except for the how i didn’t say anything about making jab SRK worse, nor did i say anything about failing to punish fierce SRKs. And it conveniently leaves out the time in dashing to the whiffed SRK, as well as everything else that goes with online. So, that would make it not right at all. If you want to blame other people for your own delusions, take it up with your mother and your therapist.

I can only hope you follow through on that promise, seeing as you just admitted you’re basing your bullshit arrogance off a complete and utter failure of reading comprehension. Sorry, but the rest of us don’t want to fix a poor man’s Rufus by turning him into a poor man’s Ryu whose game is suddenly in being a cheap douche to anyone that doesn’t hit perfect links every time or have 3 frame normals. You’re not going to make Ken not suck going down the SRK avenue, and in general you’re definitely not going to make the rest of the game better by giving already shitty players another shitty option with which to be even shittier.

iono… when i see Ken… i view him as a fire upper cut character + rapid kicking motion w/ weak fireball atacks, not the spinning kick … they should make him like sfIII :slight_smile: so make that adjustment…

  1. Can you show me that frame data. Pretty sure Sakura, Ryu and Akuma have faster c.hk. Akuma and Sakura have slight reach advantage.

  2. Combo? The only way you can combo in to it (other than CH f.SRK FADC) is a deep jump in (almost every character can do this anyway) or EX air Tatsu. Good luck on those.

the people who dont play ken need to stop posting in this thread. i can practically see people like this halo’s dude crying everytime they get scrubbed out online. i mean hey it happens to everyone but it’s not a reason to change a character to make them worse.

Now, for the REAL Ken players:

Let’s say they add crazy kicks this time (I wasn’t pissed that they weren’t in, but this thread has got me HYPED for them).

How do we want them to act. I hope we all want them to be done like HDR/ CVS2 as far as inputs go. If they were done in ST’s motions, coupled with the shortcut inputs, I think we’d be getting crazy kicks all over the place (but that would certainly make them live up to their name though).

Honestly, I wouldn’t know where to start! In CVS2, I used the lk kick to continue standing pressure, instead of SRK knockdowns. Beyond that, I didn’t really use them there.

In ST, I used the hk kick as a bootleg version of Ryu’s normal HK anti air. :stuck_out_tongue:

i hate to compare ken to ryu but thats the bread and butter, the yin and yang of street fighter.
one is supposed to have a better fireball and one has a better SRK. right now the yin and yang are off balance because ryu has the better of both worlds. thats just not right. kens shoryuken should take more damage than ryu’s and they need to up the priority on kens srk too. his srk as an anti air is pretty much garbage in this game because you get kicked in the face half the time with no trade off. all im asking for is a better srk because since the beginning of time, that has been “Kens move”. ken has a terrible anti air game in SF4 and i want something done about that.

I think they tried to balance the Shoryus by making Ken’s hit further horizontally, but Ryu’s hits better vertically… However, that doesn’t exactly balance… Especially when the first hit of the Shoryu may tag the opponent, but the rest won’t hit, so you get punished anyway.
