us using jap sticks

when did usa learn how good the japanese sanwas were? first time they played was daigo vs valle n 98 which daigo had his own stick did valle try it out and learn right then the difference it had? or was it years later cause i never even heard of japanese sticks till tekken 5 in 2004 i intentionally hated how responsive it was but learnt to like it

You’re going to have to ask Alex (or Daigo) to answer to that question. Just make sure when you do you don’t repeat the word “Jap” as used in your thread title, coz it’s RACIST AS FUCK.

i guess the word slope would be better suited since the slope of the stick is angled

@d3v is this kind of shit allowed in here?? I’m not even Asian, and even I want to smoke this fool.

And before he tucks tail and edits this crap, here’s a screencap:

Interesting… I wonder if this reaction is specific to US culture. It sounds just like an abbreviation to me.

Seriously?

lol what a little dork he is and i laugh at his so called threat at smoking me lol id love to know what his idea of “smoking me” is

Smoking you = infracting or (better yet) banning you. I don’t have that power, but I know someone here who does. Let’s see what he thinks…

User 1: uses insensitive abbreviation, likely by accident
User 2: lets used one know said abbreviation happens to also be racial slur
User 1: leans the eff in

Good lord.

It can be, but the term itself has a pretty colorful history here as a racial slur.

Call someone that in Japan and you’d get the same (or worse) reaction.

Walks in, Read page, leaves

Interesting slants in this discussion.

"Jap
a. (US, especially during World War II) a Japanese soldier or national, or anyone of Japanese descent."
Hmmm…

I see…

Does this reaction also apply if it’s an adjective? I mean, I have also seen “US” and “EU” used to refer to products from the USA and Europe, for example.
I’m just curious. If there’s a reason for people to be angry, I’m not saying they shouldn’t be.

The [international] ISO Alpha-2 designation for the country is “JP.” The ISO Alpha-3 is “JPN.” Nowhere, internationally–either in business, diplomatic, or military reference is “JAP” ever used. Why do you think that is the case?

You have the internet at your fingertips. A wealth of information. If you are seeking philosophical or semantic distinction of an “abbreviation” long-held by millions of people as base, derogatory, condescending, and down-right insulting…in a fighting games forum… then you need serious help.

If the N-word was thrown around in here, there would be a mob with pitchforks at the gates (and rightfully fucking so).

@japamo It’s not racist where I’m from. Most people think it’s just short for saying Japanese. In my country paki is a racial slur for Asians but for the rest of Europe it’s just short for Pakistani. I don’t think he was intentionally being insensitive when he opened this thread, we should cut him some slack. @mattmonster1991 dude why the “slants” joke. I laughed too but not everyone will.

He lost the benefit of the doubt when he went ultra-dick mode with “slope.”

I say Roast em’

I lived in London for two years @ProgressiveBalance. I have South Asian friends on both sides of the pond (including Pakistanis). If any of them heard your ass say that about them, they’d punch you straight in your face. Period. Laughing at “slant” or “slope” jokes ain’t gettin’ you any extra credit either.

Also, let’s get real: history speaks for itself in easily showing Europe as NOT being a beacon of racial equality.

I never said Europe was, I just mean that most people don’t see some of these words as insensitive, only shorthand for other things. I used paki one time growing up and had no idea what it meant to people. I don’t think that people should be persecuted for using these words. Until recently I didn’t know there was anything wrong with jap until trump said it. I’ll admit that the joke Matt made latter was a little inappropriate but he shouldn’t be smoked is all I’m saying. Even for that joke. If he said he hated all Japanese there would be an issue for me, but that’s not what he said.

Also if your Pakistani friends heard me say what exactly?

  1. If you said the word Paki around my friends, you’d have a big black bruise where one of your eyes would be.

  2. That shit this clown said was forgivable. Then he escalated like a wiseass. This isn’t General Discussion. This is Tech Talk. Maybe I am delusional, but I assume a higher standard of intelligence and sensitivity is required in the comments here.

P.S. Quite frankly, you stating that his crap was funny (even just initially) lumps you in the same group IMHO. Nuff said.
