i also agree with fmj, it seems unfair to make it a single elim tourney because of the randomness aspect. fmj provides a great example…

single game, double elim.
single game, to match up with the style of the 5v5, yet double elim to at least somewhat get more accurate results of who 1 and 2 are.

The decision was made by someone who knows nothing about american 3s players. I’m over it.
The worst part is that a fair mechanism could be devised that awards past performances (btw why did you guys randomly choose “3 captains”? why not choose the person who did best at last years EVO) and is perfectly do-able in a timely fashion and maximizes chances of others getting a fair shot and creates the best possible team, but its all getting ignored.

Double elim makes much more sense in deciding top 2.
Winner’s finals winner can relax with a guaranteed spot, while loser’s bracket has a final chance.

Yes, I do apologize that things got wacky and Vic got the shit end deal (he still entered in top 16 tho). Fact of the matter is this, here is how it went down. When first deciding this 5on5, it was orginally going to be only Justin Wong as captain and he would pick his whole team. I kind of wanted to do something different this year to make it so we get a little player flavor from all the major 3s hot spots in the States. So i came up with having 3 captains 1 from Tx, 1 from EC and 1 from WC. they woul each pick 4 candidates to compete for the last 2 spots. Hey something different and new, and we get somethign that wouldnt normally happen if its just 1 captain picking his homies. So i look at evo results and I get Justin and Hsien for tx and ec that was the easy part. For WC it got a little, no A LOT more complicated. First idea was Pyro, he is hands down the best player in 3s on the wc. He has proven himself time and time again. I then find out he isnt even going to evo, so scratch him off the list, then it was Frankie another well respected player that has proved himself). I then talk to him personally and he says he isnt sure that he is going and forfeited his spot to someone who is goign for sure. Quick note: Ricky was taken off the list because he is a part of empire, and empire already has wong as a captain. So scratch HIM off the list. NOW, my next pick was to go straight to last years evo results and who placed in top 8…well it happen to be Mike Watson. This is where it got weird cause at the time of all this Mr Wizard and Watson had some falling out and watson got booted from helping out with srk…i took this the wrong way and assumed that he wasnt allowed to par-take in the event and i also heard he wasnt even gonna go to evo because of that drama. So then my FOURTH pick, was to make Victoly the last captain. He is known for having the best dudley in the states, and when i announced it, nobody seem to argue. Chaos then began when Mike watson came back into the picture and argued his point to Wizard, Wizard tells me He HAS to be on the Team guaranteed and thats where the 4 captain drama began.
So I do apologize for the confusion, but I couldnt argue the point that tihs is an EVO event, and we were orginally going with Last years evo results. So now that you all know the full detail of the situation, go ahead and flame away if you want,or we can start discussing things that matter like should the top 16 be single or double.
