I always found the problem to be with the random ass class schedules people have throughout the week. What is nice about the hub is that it is THE central place for marvel on campus.
What is this talk about consoles? Are they changing the layout?

Yeah but organizing stuff is much less convenient than something that is just there right in front of all of us!
I certainly don’t have my hopes up, even if we do basically fund that place. I just hope they don’t throw in like 7 arcana heart cabs because they think it will appeal to us sexually or something (I seriously would not be caught playing that game in public!).
Consoling it up would be ok I guess as long as there’s little or no charge and we can bring our stuff (Games and sticks ho!). If that were to happen I’d be forced to bring KOFXI and school you fools hispanic style, since we love that shit (I swear its got to be genetic)
They just moved all of the cabs out of the middle room with the cashier ladies desk, and into the pool room where a few of the other cabs were. The middle room is currently empty, or was the last time I was there.
Wow that would look weird as hell to me. After 5 years of the same ish, that is a big change.
I’m pretty sure that shit has been that way since the 80’s. My dad took me down there a couple of times when he was in graduate school there, in like 93 or something and it definately looked similar (there was a SF2 cab but I don’t remember which one it was).
Winter quarter, I’m holding weekly nightly meetings for gaming at UW from like 5 to 7. We got in trouble in our room in architecture for not properly using the projectors, so we’re switching to a room where we’re not going to be as liable. Pretty much, people in the club just bring random crap, we hook it up to projectors, and play games for the time. Specifics will probably come when winter quarter comes.
I really need to look into RSO funding to see if we could help the HUB.
As before, I’d be more hopeful, but I’m 99% certain that the whole reason behind the HUB games reorganization is to get rid of the arcade games, and replace them with something else.
‘Something else’ seems likely to be console games. And then there are questions like, “Why would I pay money to play a game that I already have at the HUB?” or, “Would playing those games be worth it if I can’t save my progress?” or, “Do I really want to carry around memory cards, a game, and possibly a joystick for the privilege of paying to play with them?” But maybe it wouldn’t be BYO-EverythingButTheConsole, and I can imagine it being okay if the price were right.
It’s a bummer because I think I might not get much use out of it, but… on the other hand, it can’t possibly be any worse than all those crappy racing games, can it? Even if it’s board games or something, just about anything else would be better. There is a 0% chance I will play the racing games, can’t get any lower than that.
By the way I did a google search for hyper inferno lol wanna see what came up?

I counted 7 comments that use the word “awesome.”
Good lord, the world will forever associate chris with that silly imagine.
and by za warudo I mean me, because before I would just imagine chris on fire
but now!
oooooh!
You in the architecture program by chance?
As folks who were around before know, the plan is to replace most of the arcade games with a pay-for-time console setup. It looks like the big MVC2 cabinet is staying, and a couple racing games (lol), but just about everything else is being cleared out.
Kitty said they’d be set up some time next week, and was actually hoping some people would be around to test it out a little before the next quarter starts. Pricing is still up in the air, but might end up being something like $5-$7 an hour, charged by the minute, much like pool tables.
On the one hand, it’s kinda lame. Consoles? Pssht. Don’t you guys own those things? On the other hand, they replaced a bunch of crap, for the most part. I kinda miss the Neo Geo cabinet, but I think I only ever actually played on it once. Motorcycle game, ALWAYS BROKEN SC2 cab, etc - good riddance.
I doubt the Wii will be able to play Tatsunoko Pro vs. Capcom.
I just don’t want to see gross smash players take over. If I were there, I would have probably fought them all at once and been expelled from UW.
I remember when we met with her, and I we told her that the thing she really needs to do is build up some sort of community. SHE needs to organize some sort of league for students, or tournaments, or anything to build up like what we have for MVC2. I just don’t see her business being profitable unless she can offer the people who come to play something more than expensive video games. It needs to become a community hub for gamers, or some place where the people who play there can get some sort of identity or join a social group and meet other players. Otherwise its just a dark basement with expensive games I already own.
We really need to get the RSOs more organized and start holding tournaments or something. Just get the word out that there’s more people willing to play games like MvC2 or Guilty Gear, or whatever than what you’d think.
We should set up one of those blue booths on the hub lawn!
I know. You said it; I agreed then and I agree now.
I also think that all suggestions involving effort and knowledge on the part of HUB staff simply enter one ear and pass out through the other. I do not believe she knows or wants to know what is involved with a tournament. I think that from her point of view, running a mostly unprofitable business is just fine, and is actually less work than something ‘successful.’
From our, the caring gamer, point of view, I think that the HUB is going to be what it was. It’s a place to practice and play, but it’s the last place to practice and play. If at all possible, we’re better off going to somebody’s place, chilling, etc. And past that, it’s a place where you can meet new players who are interested, and don’t already know about SRK and stuff.
So I stopped by the HUB today after a study session for one of my finals, and saw that they had some of the basic elements of the setups done.
Pretty small monitors with those weird ass gamerchair things, absolutely no room inbetween them.
Would be cool for maybe Halo sessions or something, but in terms of fighting game setups I think we just got totally fucked…but its not like any of us were expecting anything anyways.
Thumbs down.
I’ll probably have a look after my final some time tonight.
Ah you suck! My final paper is due in 3 hours!
and of course Im cutting it down to the last minute.
I do have some finals tommorow though, so Ill stop in and maybe hope if a frown hard enough that room will just explode.
what the gay?
so theyre changing the hub layout and experimenting with replacing the arcades with consoles?
lame
