Under Night In-Birth: From the makers of Melty Blood

I dunno if I would consider it cool, but that would be very hilarious nonetheless.

Another website relating to UNIB, from French Bread.

French-Bread Online

And just in case any one cares…

Basically, the message on the page talks a whole bunch about how UNIB represents basically a new milestone in French Bread’s 13 years of being on the “market”. From their humble beginnings as a small time doujin circle that made things like Queen of Heart, to now making an ORIGINAL fighting game that’s being released straight to the commercial arcades. It’s like a dream come true to them. And to thank those who supported them over the years, they’re endeavoring to make this the game best it can be, and all that kind of stuff.

Again, really a pity that we likely won’t be seeing anything more of substance to this game until the end of the year.

Some footage shown here:

7:00 - 7:12 New character revealed for Under Night in-birth.
7:12 - 8:17 Hyde vs Waldstein training mode it seems
8:17 - end Carmine vs this new rapier chick with stand-like abilities?

Who Ash from KoF???

Pump out that news people lol I need to grab myself a board when they come out.

thanks for reminding me how great the OST is.

Not the most substantial of updates, but hey, it’s something.

To me, the main take-away is that it seems like FB’s aspiration for the big-time commercial scene is now official. They won’t be appearing at Comiket any longer, which truly means that they have turned in their Donjon card. While a bit sad to think that much effectively closes the book on them being able to do things along the lines of Ragnarok Battle Offline and Glove On Fight any longer, the fact that they’re now official means they may go on to do bigger and better things. Hopefully, that just implies that more people will get to play their games, as a result of a going mainstream.

I like the information  now some game and more info on that character the reveal on the last stream.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more game play footage for this myself. I’ve had this game under my radar for a good minute.

Some updates they posted this May. Thanks to Erkz for the translations:

  • We said we’d try to have the game in operation by the end of the year, but it’s been delayed to Spring next year. I’m sorry, everyone! It’d be nice if we finished before Spring though. ^^;

  • Koihime AC is seriously coming out!

  • About the AM Show Exhibit… There’s been some trouble regarding the voice actor contracts, and while the game’s pretty good without voice acting… I don’t want to admit defeat, orz. Oh well, we’ll think of something.

  • Sorry for the hold up. The next stream’s broadcasting date has been decided. It will be held on the 19th at 23:00.

So apparently that game French Bread were making…

hopefully the stream would be bring some hype for this game

so i guess that none of us watched the stream
the good thing is that its archived

There wasnt much info for UNIB,except some new character artwork.

there are a couple very basic but also very fundamental things that say a lot about where this game is headed in terms of play style:

A-on stream, mention of “combo game” versus “footsie game” and note of MBAA being a “combo game”. this along with some of the footage we’ve seen implies that this game will lean much more toward “footsie game” than MB
B-no footage of double jumps yet
C-evidence of one airdash–no guarantees that most characters will have one, but seeing one says a lot more than the game having none at all
D-KoF hops–the jump angles from some of the characters we’ve seen (especially carmine) are similar to KoF style hops
E-lack of footage of projectiles
F-footage of attack chaining, but not particularly long attack chains (we’ve seen short completely chained strings of 2-4 normals)

a- self explanatory. or should be if you’re reading this
b- brings footsies/zoning closer to the ground/on the ground more often, unlike MBAA’s air footsies
c- if there are one/none, footsies will hit the ground fast (KOF/SF style over GG/MB/AH/etc). the prescence of one however at least shows that they are willing to bring the air footsies aspect into this game, since with (D), the only effect of air dashes would be bringing in air footsies and a little bit more mixup/oki game
d- KOF style hops in general are very offensive-friendly jumps and for the most part serve the same purpose as IADs
e- makes the footsie game a bit more in-your-face and less boring, also a little more risky. also shows a weak prescence of far-zoning and keep away games
f- retains some gameplay-effects of chaining systems which include a more complex combo system with easier hitconfirming and rewarding blocked offensive pokes/moves/openers with momentum, which brings the game to a more offensive playstyle, but also keeping it at shorter strings can prevent unfairly braindead long blockstrings filled with BS mixups (ever play against eddie?), encouraging and rewarding offense while still making it require intelligence, skill, and finesse. this also tends to result in faster offense, since forcing shorter strings also forces gaps (and also frametraps) to occur faster/more often, and said gaps are where decisions by players are made (instead of one player holding down-back in constant, airtight blockstun and the other doing routine button sequences)

of course the game is still early in dev and everything is up to be changed but these are my thoughts from what i’ve observed

i should really do work at work. lol

Good summary. We need more footage!

I really like this.

thank god, i’m tired of combos

That’s interesting. I’m really looking forward to seeing how they achieve that.

I’d disagree with the GG comparison, but AH3 does have a bajillion frames of hit stop on some moves that makes me laugh. I feel AH3 is the 3rd strike of Anime Games, it feels fast because offense is so strong and you have to be constantly looking for your opponents next move. However, it’s slower frame wise and movement wise than you feel when you play it.

So what happened to this game, and when might we get some more news?

There have been a few (shitty) developer streams here and there, but MB is getting a lot of attention for the moment. I’m sure UNIB is in the works.

This is a sketch on the latest character reveal, Harada.
