Because from a western viewpoint, violence = fine, sex = no-no.
Because they’re morons. There’s a cultural aspect too, but it’s easier to just say that.
I have a hard time seeing how you could think Carmine was a girl if you had any animu experience whatsoever. He looks like the result of Freeman raping Remy.
lol FB english. I’m gonna call it Inverse.
At least you admit that AH has an element of sexuality. However I don’t think this is the issue.
But if the characters of MK had the ages of AH, I’m sure it would be a lot more objectionable.
Imagine a 5 year old Sonya getting fatality’d by a 12 year old Kung Lao.
sex with a underage girl is a no no in almost all cultures
now, i wouldnt deny that ah has the fan services element (maids, bunny girls, glass girls, nuns, and many other moe stereotypes) and some sort of sex element on the concept, but the oversexualization on the chars is more a thing of the viewer than the source material imo
for example, when you go to the beach or a pool, you dont start saying that the people that are there are pedos because there are kids on bathing suits
if people find eko sexually apealing for example, or find her that its directed for pervs, its more likely their problem
I hope the game has doublejumps and airdashes, even if it isn’t as free form as MBAA’s movement.
It seems like the love child of VSAV and MB to me, this is an awesome thing.
Soft Circle French Bread, I didn’t think you could top yourselves after Melty Blood. But then you showed me Under Night In-Birth, and told me to pronounce it as “Inverse.” Then, you finished me off with “Unreal BLACk THINGS”. My mind, is blown. You guys are on a whole other level than Arc Sys and their BlazBlue.
Bravo, French Bread. Bravo.
Well said, my friend!
If you look at carmine’s little bit where he does the jedah-style projectile into pressure, he airdashes after doing a j.whatever. It’s hard to see due to the fade, but yeah.
Some of the jumps in the game seem to have rather weird angles.
Violence is okay, sex is bad.
That’s how it works in the USA, whereas it’s the opposite in Japan.
Yeah the question was rhetorical but now that we’re actually talking about it lets not get too carried away with all the generalizing. I mean, has anyone turned on the tv recently? America is sex crazy, that just doesn’t translate particularly well to the sexuality in games/anime which mostly plays on the youthfulness/ ‘‘innocence’’ of young girls. By all means though, I legitimately feel like Mortal Kombat’s celebration of gore and killing is just way more offensive in every respect.
Moreover, the people getting mad at Arcana are nerds. Not your average super bowl watching American (they dont know wtf arcana even is), I wouldn’t really look there for your answers when it seems to lie much more centrally in the sexually frustrated/bitter core of whoever is making an issue out of the game to begin with.
In Japan, not really… Points to anime
Since when did this turn into a AH3 discussion? Whatever…
Game looks pretty cool so far. Music in the video was good. I am hyped for Linne, Waldstein looks badass, and of course Unreal BLACK THINGS. I’m looking forward to see what FB does with this.
Anime game, other anime games must be relevant.
Just for fun, some speculation that is probably completely off base: Waldstein ends his first combo in the video when his giant portrait is taking up half the screen with a move that looks pretty similar to his grab earlier in the video. Here’s to possible Karnov’s Revenge combo throw shenanigans.
Actually, it’s true. Especially in wake of the mass-stabbing incident that happened in Akihabara years ago, Japan has done a lot to cut down on violence in anime and games alike. The stuff you see today is highly censored, compared to what used to fly decades ago.
For example, back in the 80s, Hokuto no Ken and Saint Seiya used to be the kind of stuff that would air on prime-time TV. Now-a-days, it’s highly likely that those types of shows would either get a) highly censored for TV and/or b) aired late at night.
And it’s definitely affected games, too. Remember when Guilty Gear used to have those little splashes of blood? That quickly got nixed by the time AC rolled around, because ASW didn’t want their product to get slammed with a CERO “C” or “D” ranking that would have limited the audience that they could sell the game to. And everybody else in the Japanese gaming industry has been doing likewise, all because of the raised censorship levels.
Well, I am hyped at this idea for a new game! Especially because most fighting games seem to be shifting towards 3-D graphics, I love to see good 'ol lovely animation again. (KOF13 was a nice surprise, I’ll admit.)
Now, I don’t get how the naysayers on here are bashing it and accusing it of being a watered down Melty. I mean, the game hasn’t even come out, the content and previews are extremely limited, those of you who are bashing already, care to supply your evidence and reasoning for the bashing??
…Still hyped, and loving the idea of a new Melty, too, that I read about on Meltybread on the Under Night article. Sigh if only FFA could get current code… or even AA.
This. I’m usually the guy in a group of people that can properly discern genders of characters, but I’ll occasionally get thrown for a loop and be all ‘wait wat.’ That, and Carmine totally has man-pecs. No homo.
True but…
There has been worse look to Bridget
I think you are misunderstanding me. What I was saying was: Of course Carmine is a man, he doesn’t look like a girl at all
And this game better have a real trap, I expect no less of modern animu games.
Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a trap,
only that the guy wasn’t revealed to be such until the sequel.
