UMvC3 version 2013: The feedback thread

As long as his diagonal air dash is Iron Man’s and his up/down air dash is as fast as Storm’s float descend.

Giving him an airdash doesnt necessarily mean 8-way.

To note, Spencer’s command throws are not 1 frame, I believe they are 5 and 7 or something similar to that. Having both a ground to ground and ground to air command throw makes it even riskier to make them 1 frame.

That said I agree with everything else.

Iron Man’s air dash is fine. He needs a better ground dash and he’ll be perfectly balanced.

Shockingly the people that know the best changes to Iron Man are gasp Iron Man players. He’s a support character and should be balanced as such, but his shitty ground dash is a bit too much of a gimp for him.

strange does NOT need an air dash, he’s unique in that way and giving him an air dash would just make him more like dormammu and we don’t need that. His rushdown is limited to left right mixups, not high low and imo that’s what makes strange different because impact palm is one of the best option selects in the game. Strange is fine as is, the only buff I would give him is give him 4 specials in the air instead of the max limit of 3, that way he can use throw out more orbs before teleport and give him more FoF loops. The FoF loops wouldn’t be a huge deal because there is still a limit to how many you can do before you need to rely on assist to get more extensions in which case, 4 FoF loops will effect that but you’d only get like another 30k and a bit more meter.

I see what you’re saying Chrisis, she needs something to make her command grabs a bit scarier, they just don’t have the same umph that wesker does.

i agree strange should NOT have an 8-way airdash. that’ll just homogenize him with the other airdash/flight characters in the cast. that’ll be SUPER boring. to boot, considering he’s a sorcerer, he’s a great avatar for a character to bring something unique and interesting to the table.
how do people feel about giving him teleports that teleport him away from his opponent? or teleports that are relative to the screen (like deadpool), as opposed to relative to the opponent like they currently are? maybe make his ground dashes like demitri where he’s invisible/invincible for a brief period of time? he needs improvement in the movement department, but i’m wholeheartedly against 8-way airdash. his design should be geared towards making him more magician-illusionist-sorcerer-like, not magneto.
his S sucks. he’s the sorcerer supreme, not a can-can girl. his S should be a mini version of SoV imo. it doesn’t have to be -21 on block either.

I used to be against this, but thinking about it, what would be so wrong if Proton Cannon were safer on block?

I’m all for it but the main problem might be that if they buff his point game(dashes,etc) then giving him a safe DHC along with probably the best beam in the game, and a very good lockdown assist/fireball absorber along with that safe DHC doing like 250k on hit would make his point/support game way to good(pretty much a better doom)

Even while I’d like for Tron to be stronger as a character, I feel like she really doesn’t need all that much. She’s still a good point character with high damage and lots of health to work with. She also builds up tons of meter and her hitbox makes her harder to combo at times. The main problems are her reliance on assists and that you have to really know how to maximize your damage with her on numerous conversions. The knockback on j.H made it so you have to cancel to Air Drill, which scales the combo pretty early. She’s a big target and her zoning options aren’t the greatest, but she does have some normals that negate projectiles and she can make up for it with assists backing her up.

I’m not sure how a jump cancel boulder would be useful to be honest. It is more of a zoning/pressure tool that helps her stay safe on block. At least Gustaff doubles as a mini-launcher so it makes sense. If they gave a move armor, I’d figure s.H would make the most sense in the first few frames at least, but I don’t think armor is necessary. And she can get a combo off command grab, but it’s really difficult to convert into a full combo. Possible though.

I’m pretty sure Boulder Toss can already be whiff special canceled, unless you mean to have it cancel before she even throws the rock. o.o Agree with the X-Factor cancel on whiffed Lunchtime Hyper. Her lvl3 isn’t completely useless, but it an only be used in certain situations I guess, maybe to punish some things. Main issue is you can’t followup after, and you get much more damage with her usual BNBs.

I don’t think Tron is as bad as most people believe, as I feel people just aren’t putting in the time to figure out how she works. She has more than j.H and j.S, and her closeup pressure is not bad at all with some decent normals. As I said before in my terrible mess of a post earlier, I myself would be satisfied if the knockback on j.H was reduced, maybe to be like it was in Vanilla. Also, one thing that is a little annoying was the fact her Gustaff assist as a crossover counter cannot be special canceled like the regular version. It would be a really big help for her especially since Gustaff is invincible as a CC. Good for getting the pressure off and also good for Happy Birthday situations.

MODOKS body attack needs to have more use outside of running away. Soft knockdown on body attack would be perfect or make it more like 2 thrusts from HBR.

Also, if they wanted to NOT change anything about Nemesis here’s an insane suggestion. Give the big lug even MORE health as in 50% more health. That way he at least can be the ultimate meat shield.

I have been an Iron man player since vanilla dropped, I still think his ultimate air dash is complete balls.

lol The only reason saying he would be top 10 would be unfair is because it implies that there are nine other characters that are around his level. If he had constant turnabout from the start of the match and Maya he would be absolutely broken. It would be impossible to approach him because of his H normals and fast high durability projectiles, it would also be impossible to zone him out, again, because of his high durability fast projectiles, everything in turnabout is plus on block other than his Order in the Court and Ace Attorney hypers and overhead (which he can cancel into S so it doesn’t matter anyway) so punishing him is practically impossible, and any hit confirm he gets leads into meterless death. Having Maya, a barrier and a virtually unstoppable low, on top of turnabout would only be making things worse. The only reason turnabout doesn’t seem as strong as it is is because he lacks a good mixup and has a timer that forces him to rushdown.

This is simple. MvC3 has the potential to be the best game of this generation, even better than SFIV, but Capcom can’t figure how to take the most of it.

This is my personal story with the MvC3 series. Not that anyone cares, but whatever:

  • I played MvC3, stopped playing it online because of horrible netcode, and just kept playing in the lab just for the fun of combos and team synergies until I eventually focused on SFIV

  • When UMvC3 came out, I wanted to buy it but really felt it was gonna be still broken and after the release I read netcode was still ass, so I didn’t buy it, althought I should’ve bought it a couple weeks ago for 15€ just for the lab and team synergies and combo fun, but I missed the opportunity

  • I they make another iteration, with proper netcode and proper rebalance, I will buy it, because it’s a very fun game. If not, I’ll just wait for another UMvC3 offer or a second hand opportunity, or just load MvC3 and hit the lab whenever I feel the Marvel call

Also DO SOMETHING about stages! I’m sick of the training stage (yes, in SFIV too). If they lag just make them not lag, remove assets, lower the polygons, I don’t know, but do something. Stages are so sick in this game and I only get to see them when watching Open Lobby Streams.

Long story short: Just make another update, take care on gaming, balance and netcode, and I’ll buy it

Sorry I can’t suggest balances, I don’t know shit of the game compared to other people around, so I better not say anything.

Ryu changes:
-Make j.L start 1 frame faster, to allow better use of fuzzy guard/instant overhead set-ups with assists. This is actually a pretty cool and unique thing for Ryu and Akuma doesn’t have anything like it because 1) Akuma is generally played without assists and 2) Akuma’s air tatsus work totally differently from Ryu’s.
-Buff start-up of Baku Hadouken. Currently this move is too slow to be useful at all. If you had a move that won the game instantly, but started in 600 frames, would that be good? No, unless your opponent fell asleep, obviously. Currently this move starts in 53 frames. I feel like around 35-39~ frames or so would be a fair range. It’s also a little dumb that it only has 5 points of durability. I feel like considering it’s supposed to basically be a beefier hadouken, it should have 7, or maybe 8. If this gives it too much power, it’d be fair to reduce the damage by 25k to compensate a bit, because honestly I’d love to trade this big damage, pointless move for something with actual utility.
-Non-Hadou Shoryukens are useless except for specific combos. Considering that L Shoryuken is only invincible for 2 of its 3 start up frames, I think it might be fair to let Ryu combo off of it. But, maybe only against airborne opponents on a counterhit, and it would probably start with lots of hitstun decay, kinda like Wesker’s counter super does (iirc?). I’d like for M and H shoryuken to give better non-combo-related advantages, kind of like Hadou Shoryu does (if you hit a Hadou Shoryu you get a free completely safe raw tag, which is a nice way to give Ryu extra defensive tools beyond just the obvious invincibility). So maybe let either M or H shoryuken send the opponent flying away kinda like CapCom’s Captain Corridor in MvC2? Probably the M one so that way this can’t be abused as an assist (since the version of SRK for assist is H). And probably slightly increase the frame advantage on hit; currently M is -9, and H is -19. I don’t want them to recover fast enough to allow combos, but moreso so that he gets a better momentum advantage. Maybe M becomes like +1, and H becomes -4, or thereabouts?
-Buff Ren Hadouken. It’s basically only useful to slightly buff corner air combos that aren’t suffering hitstun decay. The fourth hit should have a tiny bit more hitstun or float slightly higher, to allow more use in midscreen combos, and maybe some kind of buff to make it useful as a neutral tool. Maybe the fifth (or maybe fourth+fifth) ones continue onwards fullscreen, but slowly? Or something like that.
-Make Hadou-Kakusei not drain red health and last 60 frames longer. This move’ll probably still suck but at least it’ll suck less.
I have other changes I can think of, but I realized that without a way to test them out or anything, giving him toooo many buffs might turn him into a monster. So it’d probably just be best to let those changes happen and then if he still sucks too much give him more shit. Hadou Kakusei could get even better than what I’ve said but that might be too much with the other changes too. If y’all are sure he’d still be total garbage after all this then I have other changes in mind (namely to useless moves like his M tatsus, ground H tatsu, Hadou Kakusei, and Shin Hadouken).

Totally Fair Sentinel Change Ideas:
-Sentinel Force can be canceled into any other special once the drones are active at a small meter cost (<1 bar). Currently, point Sentinel has little use for Drones because of the huge punish window on start-up.
-Give me the Rocket Punch xx Sentinel Force xx Repeat string back!
-Rocket Punches have 1 hit of armor each and cause special properties on counter-hit (L=Ground Bounce, M=Wall Bounce, H=Flying Screen)
Misc. (Presentation Issues) :
-Include Hawkeye and Hulk with Cap, Thor, and Iron Man’s “Avengers Assemble” quotes. This shouldn’t even need to be asked for.
-Give Hawkeye an “Avengers Assemble” quote
-Make a team composed entirely of Dorm, Doom, Magneto, MODOK, Taskmaster, and/or Skrull have a special quote.
-Give Iron Fist a Daredevil color palette
-Make Nemesis say “STARRRS” when up against RR, Nova, or Skrull
-Bring back an option for the Vanilla battle HUD?
-PLZPLZPLZ ADD ANAKARIS! I WILL SLAY HADARA IN ONE ON ONE COMBAT FOR THIS, ONO!
-Also, add Black Panther (Storm/Anakaris/Panther=“ONWARD! TO AFRICA!”)

They honestly need to give Nemesis his voice from RE3, I’d force myself to play his sorry ass if he at least sounded cool. This Nemesis sounds way to muffled.

As far as your Sentinel changes? Meh.
Just give him his health back, frankly he’s not bad as he is.
If you want to use drones use them in conjunction with a lock down assist
to setup command grab/Low mixups. He can bop just about anyone, just
the top tier and flyers tend to eat him alive.

Sentinel kills me because he’s derp, but not derp enough to make a dent as a point
in this game. Guess since I never really played MvC2 after the first 4-5 years I don’t
got that nostalgia.

The netcode/matchmaking needs a complete revamp. A Beginner has no business playing against a 9th Lord who’s capable of holding their own against a 5th Lord when they selected “Same Rank,” nor should they feel like they’re playing someone 100 miles away when in reality, the distance is barely 10 miles.
