UMvC3 Tournament and Stream Commentary Thread

I respect that. Embrace the derp.

Along these lines I cannot imagine how much sloppier the play would have been if as many people as where running Wesker weren’t. It seems pretty clear to me that (for whatever reason) people weren’t ready for this tournament.

people get hit like that because he also has a command grab which scares people probably got hit during prejump frames

NEC Top 8 was hilariously awful. When Yipes said this game is ass, I looked at it and thought “Shit… he’s right”. If this is what he have to look forward to, it ain’t looking good at all. Damn, now I really can’t wait for Tag 2

I’d wait until SCR to see how good/bad this game is. EC is not the stuff at this game yet. A Vergil in top 8 that can’t even do his day 1 BnB.

Clockwork’s Doom is overrated IMO. Dios X’s style is really different compared to CLockwork’s and I think Clockwork’s gameplan revolves around heavy (and repeatedly obvious) usage of footdive. Just watch them both carefully and you’ll see an obvious difference.

I also don’t think I ever see Clockwork use hidden missiles, while Dios X uses it incredibly well with his assists. Most people have a crazy hard time getting in on his Doom and Clockwork doesn’t seem to even try to keep them away. Clock should be learning from Dios X.

Edit: I also like the fact that he seems to be sticking to the same team he used in MvC2 and ignoring the tierlists. He really seems to be pushing the potential of all his chars to the max as opposed to running to Wesker or whoever.

dios has the best doom

Man if I were running the NEC stream I would have shut it down and told everyone (players included) to go home because they are embarrassing the FGC (and it had nothing to do with Wesker, I love Wesker actually). Only games that brought any hype were RDK’s matches and Justin vs Jago. Everything else was [drop ABC combo] > [run face-first into XF3 Wesker for no reason] > [stream monsters complain Wesker is broken].

Hell if the players in that top 8 played like that all the time I would win EVO.

Some people really love to put the “Monster” in Stream Monster.

Yeah I realize the irony of calling out stream monsters and then posting what is a complete stream monster idiosyncrasy. I think I’m just upset I had nothing entertaining to watch this weekend even though a major was on. Also it’s Monday. I need my coffee.

I wouldn’t be surprised if half of the top 8 at NEC made top 8 at Evo. Are you guys always at 100% after playing for 10 hours straight then going on the big stage with thousands watching and having a crowd pretty much enveloping you while shouting and placing side bets on whether you win or lose? These guys didn’t make it this far by playing terrible the whole tournament. I sent RDK to losers the first round and he worked his ass off to get top 8, do you realize how many matches he had to play and win to get there? Probably double the amount anyone else had to play. Serious respect to him for repping Canada like that. Also have to keep in mind that some guys had easier pools with maybe one or two tough matches getting in their way to reach top 16, there always are some flukes and question marks because sometimes it’s a luck of the draw, but usually the best keep showing up at the end for a reason. This was a long restless weekend for a lot of us and even though we’re all supposed to be perfect when the spotlight is on us, we’re all human and mistakes can happen.
You know what, it’s a lot easier to blame this all on the PS3 version so let’s just do that. :stuck_out_tongue:

In general going to losers should only increase the number of matches you have to play by one, so not that much more unless there was some serious seeding going on.

These were 32 man pools, maybe more. When I was sent to losers after winning my first two, the amount of matches required for me to reach top 16 doubled. It was more than just one, trust me.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but isn’t it right that you have to win 5 times to get out of pools either way? Given that 2 losses=out, its 5 vs 6 sets.

Of course I’ve been up all night working so maybe I’m forgetting something basic about how brackets work :stuck_out_tongue:

RDK is from my region. I love him but it’s because of that I gotta put him on blast whenever the chance arises. Seriously don’t read too deep into that post.

For what it’s worth RDK also got kinda screwed: he was told to play a different match first round before he played you, he won that match and then was told he wasn’t supposed to play it. That can really throw you off.

Well apologies if I’m wrong, I always felt like falling into losers made it a tougher road to travel and the more you keep winning early on the better. never ran a bracket in my life. Also you have to consider some guys were being DQed for not showing up so maybe it wasn’t too hard after all hah

Oh yeah totally. IT’s harder and puts you under an immense amount of mental strain, knowing that one more mistake and you’re out.

In my experience, its harder and scarier, if not necessarily much longer. Also being told that your first match doens’t count? My heart goes out to RDK. That’s fucked up.

Edit: That’s some SBO level competence right there!

He actually had a bye first round until I got screwed in my pool and had to fill a spot in another bracket. From what I recall he was told to play on a station, DNyce didn’t say against who but he started playing someone on the side station who was there already for casuals or practice that’s just how I saw it but maybe there was a mistake after all…it really wasn’t the most organized event in the first place. I still think he got screwed because there’s no way I shouldave beaten him and he should have landed that doom combo to finish me off.

I like both clock and DiosX’s dooms and agree they play very differently, While I would say DiosX’s doom is very difficult to approach, & Clock does use a ton of divekicks I couldn’t agree that one would be harder to play then the other. Say Doing divekicks is easy but it doesn’t make it less effective I feel like I would have a bit more time to think against Dios’s doom while Clock’s is in my face.

You’re right man. Guess all those X-Factor Weskers accompanied with that sloppiness made me extra salty, it’s a tournament setting though like you said and that shit happens (usually not to so many people at once so late in the tournament however). I’m just used to the standard of play being so much higher. I don’t think it’s an East Coast thing either. Final Round and CEO Top 8 were godlike iirc and those featured several of the same players, it was just somewhat disappointing
