UMVC3 SRK Tier List/Theory Discussion. (NEW THREAD NOW AVAILABLE)

No I didn’t… A tier.

Hawkeye is definitely A tier.Gimlet + Level 2/3 X-factor = I dare you to make an approach.

Gimlet is the most overrated super in my opinion. If I have life to spare I could care less if they waste a meter on a gimlet.

Posting this again:

S- Zero, Wesker, Dante Strider, Doom, Dormammu
A - Phoenix, Hawkeye, Viper, Wolverine, Magneto, Spencer, Nova, Vergil, Ammy, Taskmaster, Trish
B - Firebrand, Felicia, Morrigan, Dr. Strange, Captain America, Spider-Man, Ryu, Super-Skrull, Deadpool, Sentinel, Chris, Storm(?), Frank West
C- Iron Man,Ghost Rider, Nemesis, Hulk, Akuma, Iron Fist, Thor, X-23, Arthur, MODOK, Jill, Rocket Raccoon, Chun-Li
D- She-Hulk, Shuma
E - Tron, Hsien-Ko, Phoenix Wright

Some people just aren’t convinced yet that a nearly purely zoning oriented character has what it takes to be highest or 2nd highest tier. Some of the posters have mentioned that they feel that with a change in meta game (whatever that is) he will drop off. Which is making him sound like a better version of Arthur in Vanilla I guess. First month in Vanilla people hyped up Arthur as this character who could put a ton of shit on the screen and made it hard to get in…then people realized most of the better cast could get in on him easily and his lack of mobility was a huge issue for a character that doesn’t want you in.

The way I feel he’s basically what Arthur wants to be. A character that actually has speed and movement so he can move himself away from bad situations should they arise more effectively and 2 supers that basically either stop the person in their tracks (gimlet) or force them on hit/block towards the back of the screen (super scattered shot/kiss of fire). He can control basically every angle of fire effectively and I definitely believe assists such as Storm’s whirlwind and Vergil’s rapid slash are really slept on for helping him by space to control the match even longer since they also push the opponent far across the screen on hit or block. Plus Storm gives him access to one frame DHC that blows up any assists and allows gimlet or super scattered to do even MORE damage from anywhere on the screen.

I think he’s the lame out character that will really be around to stay in the long haul since it only takes the right people backing him up to really accentuate his lame out game. Plus for a lame out style character he actually gains a surprisingly OK offense when used as anchor with self left/right mix ups off the tricks into TOD’s and how any of his throws lead to TOD’s in XF3.

He’s also the only character in the game that effectively revolves around landing combos on you from the full screen distance away.

Geez, you make it sound like this thread is supposed to discourage picking characters that you like…

And I really feel that saying “This game doesn’t rely on character choices” is a bit of a stretch…

I feel as if you can get by in this game with having your favorite character on the team. If they’re not all that god-like then just have two others that make up for the flaws. A team with Iron Man, Wesker, and Spencer is still a threat. Even if a team of Doom,Wesker, and Spencer may be considered “better.”

Gimlet is purely a defensive option for the most part that makes all approaches dangerous due to the threat of being tagged by it. Combine this with the barrage of projectiles that he fires that builds meter as you traverse through it with the blocked hits, Hawkeye builds meter that way as well.

So if he gets enough chip damage before the gimlet, he can DHC out of it into a high damage hyper of another character and kill off a character.

Combine that with the net arrow loop which can get about three meters and you got yourself one of the best team players especially with the twins.

I think Doom and Dante and Hawkeye will always will be in the top due to there team potential. Wesker as well due to the best OTG assist.

Yeah I feel like long invincible or projectile invincible specials/supers from other characters will give him problems. Captain America has like 3 projectile invincible specials, 1 projectile invincible super and 2 supers with long invincible windows. Viper has pretty much every special move being either a strong low durability projectile, has one of the few medium durability projectile property special moves in the game (thunder knuckle/EX thunder knuckle and Hawkeye has no medium durability projectile), and of course like 3 invincible F’n supers.

Yeah, Cap is a bad matchup for any projectile based char. Viper is one of his bad matchups as well. Akuma as well. But outside of those chars I really don’t see him having many other bad matchups.

I may do mine in a bit.

I like what Mo Temptest said about baiting EX Seismos. I think Viper players like myself get use to people just running into things and dont really think about what happens when we play a good player who knows how to bait shit. Now you just wasted a meter for a mixup oppertunity (not guranteed to succeed).

That being said EX Seismos is still one of the best moves in the game.

I’m not even sure you play shuma. This looks like a flashback to a mystic ray post.

I think Shuma was perfectly placed in my tier list…/totally not a plug for my tear list

Well, I never said that you weren’t allowed to have favorites, but he was making it sound like character choice has no effect on how well you do in the game.

I think MysticRay gave up on the Shuma is S+++ tier thing :frowning:

This guy…gets brought up alot around here. Who is he? Anyway I do play (as in secondary) Shuma but he’s not a great character. He’s decent and fun. and has a cool voice.

I feel it’s stronger to have a team that fits your play style/character likings and compliments each other than a team that doesn’t fit your play style/character likings and compliment each other. It’s kinda why I gave up Wesker even though he was a good character. He was good but after seeing the synergy 23 had with Dante in Vanilla and how he was nowhere hard to play as people made him out to be…I had to get on the train seeing I was originally going to play him before the game came out any way. I wanted to play Dante way more than Wesker but the supposed execution barrier had me scared off. Now that I know he just requires execution and isn’t totally execution heavy I’m loving him and definitely not going to switch him from my main team.

Same goes for Iron Man. I mainly used Doom for the beam assist any way and I realized for what I wanted to do with my team (set people up for mix ups with a full screen, long active assist), Iron Man would do the better job regardless of his tier list. I don’t really use Doom for anything much other than the anchor hurp durp and if anything Iron Man is able to deal with matchups where the character lames at the top of the screen better than Doom can IMO. Being able to convert combos from SJ height from a solid distance into full combos is very strong for dealing with those Trish/Morrigan types in the back that IMO Doom was SOL against as anchor. Plus his combos are a lot of fun and his air normals are like using an 8 way air dash version of Dante allowing him to slash up the mid range from the air and ground. His super jump air dash down M’s and H’s have huge range and he has a flight based hit confirm (krispy kreme) and allows me to keep the pressure up on hit or block.

He was a Shuma player who tried his hardest to convince people Shuma was a really really good character.

Gotta hand it too him though, he was battling a storm, and yet he never gave up trying to convince people Shuma was high up there gotta respect that.

He’s a poster who played shuma and had no clue wtf he was talking about.

Also, if you think shuma does low damage, you need to level your execution up. Shuma is one of the most execution heavy characters in the game as he uses charge partitioning, plink dashing, and has tight links in his combos, but he doesn’t do low damage. He can do around 800k with 1 meter and 0 assists if you put in the work. The reason he isn’t b tier is because he cannot do anything without the best assists in the game, gets out prioritized on all his normals, can be thrown out of everything he does, and other minor weaknesses that all add up like his command grab having like 5000 frames of recovery and all his supers being like -100.

Well, that’s why I run Deadpool, now the most underrated character in the game.

Seriously, no one doubts Morrigan anymore, people know about Felicia, respect is shown to Skrull and Chris and Trish, etc. Deadpool’s got solid keepaway, and that Quick Work assist is really nice. Yet little attention is paid to him.

He got banned, actually.
